June 27, 2026 at 8:07 am #311181Not sure we even got a ball out of the infield until late in yesterday’s game. That kid Meyer looks like a good one.
Pallante has pitched well of late. Let’s hope that continues and the bats wake up.
June 27, 2026 at 8:40 am #311182Nice to see a Saturday night game. I know others like day games but especially in the summer, night games are superior in my opinion. Slightly cooler if you are at the game and easier to watch on TV as most times during the day I have plans.
June 27, 2026 at 8:45 am #311183It is strange that since they’ve made some internal player moves to improve the lineup that the W-L record is worse.
Maybe Victor and Nolan were the straws that stirred the drink…
June 27, 2026 at 8:49 am #311184Time to turn things around! Let’s go Redbirds!

June 27, 2026 at 9:14 am #311190Albert: Sorry to say I am among the Saturday day game lovers. Night games, for reasons of geography, usually mean I have to wait until the next day to watch it on replay. Also, I’m never able to resist checking the result in advance which dilutes the suspense element. But hey, half a lifetime working abroad meant no baseball at all until they invented the internet and MLB-TV! So who’s to complain?
Let’s hope our recent slide down the slippery standings slope is not a sign of the real Cardinals coming to the fore. I quite like that 9 games above sea level. I hope our “rebuild” hasn’t run out of nails!
Din-din ce soir will be our usual melon starter followed by veal cutlets in mushroom/cream sauce over brown rice and once again a refreshing fruit salad.
Rah Cardinals!
June 27, 2026 at 9:37 am #311193CiF, I definitely understand you preferring day game due to your geographic location.
June 27, 2026 at 12:05 pm #311196Getting spanked on your home stand is
never a good thing. Need to not only win these next 2 games, but also in a convincing manner. As long as he doesn’t get hurt, I wouldn’t mind seeing Herrera get plunked a couple more times before we hit the road. The conclusion of tomorrow’s game will put us smack dab at the halfway mark in the season. Ivan(22 HBP) is running just a titch behind the pace of Ron Hunt’s ML record of getting whacked 50 times in a season, which Ronny accomplished in 1971. I’ve always regarded Hunt’s record as nearly as difficult to eclipse as the 56 game hitting streak. With a little luck and maybe just edging another inch closer to the plate, Ivan can do it.June 27, 2026 at 12:51 pm #311199they’ve made some internal player moves
They brought up Velazquez and Torres, a couple of low hanging fruit types that were looking for jobs, providing some bit of offense and some bad LF defense. They also brought up Church and Crooks, placeholder types for Baez and Bernal/Rodriguez, with a downgrade in CF defense. And then Jordan, a clear upgrade over Gorman with the bat and a downgrade with the glove. To counteract any net gain that could be expected from all that, Walker had been tearing it up in the middle of the lineup and has now come back to earth and looks more like the Walker we know.
June 27, 2026 at 2:17 pm #311204The real culprit has been the pitching getting shelled on a regular basis.
June 27, 2026 at 3:02 pm #311209I happened to see that the Marlins are 15-5 in their last 20 games. That’s pretty good.

CF N. Church LJune 27, 2026 at 3:52 pm #311211Herrera has been getting plunked a lot this season. Speaking of Ron Hunt, Steve Carlton was a guest of our local SABR group quite a few years ago. He got the inevitable question, “Who was the toughest hitter you faced?”
Carlton said (paraphrasing), “The guy that gave me a lot of trouble was Ron Hunt. I could never pitch to that guy – he would be all over the plate and if I tried to pitch him inside I would hit him, and if I went away he would dunk one just over the infield.”
June 27, 2026 at 5:42 pm #311214That big pile of green stuff that came through St. Louis late last night or early today is pummeling us here in SW Indiana. We’ve had over 8 inches of rain in the last six days. And the forecast is to get really hot and humid starting tomorrow or Monday. Highs in the low-mid 90s for a few days. Same forecast for the St. Louis area as well.
And as I type this there is a little band of rain and storms just north of the metro St. Louis area. The Doppler doesn’t really show where it’s headed over the next couple of hours.

June 27, 2026 at 5:49 pm #311215The season record for being HBP is 51 set in 1896 by some guy named Jennings who probably served and fought in the Battle of Bear Valley during the American Indian Wars…Hunt places 2nd at 50 HBP during the ’71 season. That’s a lot of ice and tattoos. Poor Ivan’s already been victimized 22 times this season at a bit shy of the half way mark, so he could well end up with 35 to 40 examples of skin art before season’s end. I still think it’s a real shame that pitchers are no longer required to take PA’s and thus be rightfully exposed to the same sort of projectiles that they place upon the hitter. Cepeda led the NL in being HBP two seasons in a row with the Cardinals and I clearly recall that Orlando rarely took too kindly to being assaulted while standing in the box. I can only imagine the conversations that he had in the dugout with Gibson in regards to the proper response…Haha!

June 27, 2026 at 5:50 pm #311216Doesn’t anyone eat dinner around here anymore? 😀
June 27, 2026 at 5:53 pm #311217Lunch was a tad overseasoned Cheesesteak in Hannibal Mo. Had to get fireworks for the 4th and stopped in the place near downtown. Dinner who knows? House sitting and dog sitting. Whatever is in the Fridge or Freezer. Frozen Pizzas, Chopped Salad kits, Chicken Salad from Sam’s Club, Roast Beast and Ham for crushing Sandos. Plenty of Jim Beam. Limited on beer and Seltzers. Might have to make a run for those later. Lol
June 27, 2026 at 5:54 pm #311218https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/4-red-hot-cardinals-prospects-192611894.html
I just saw this article and they had 4 prospects that the writer said the Brass couldn’t ignore to bring up soon. #1 is someone I’ve never heard of. Can someone give me background on who he is? Lol
June 27, 2026 at 6:08 pm #311219I’m a little slow it seems 85. I started to give you a serious response. Actually we could see the other 3 before Baez. Sounds like plenty of snacks at your house. I had salsiccia with pepper jack cheese and sweet baby rays. Cottage cheese and Arnold Palmer tea. Ben and Jerry’s half baked a little later. Some runs would go nicely with my dinner.
June 27, 2026 at 6:11 pm #311220In regards to all time records in baseball, in my estimation, the single most difficult record to eclipse is the 2 consecutive no-no’s from Johnny Vander Meer in June of ’38. I mean, it’s nearly impossible to work 2 consecutive no-hitters, but if someone were to somehow do so, he’d then have to work another one during his very next turn to eclipse “The Dutch Master’s” record. I don’t at all envision that ever happening.
June 27, 2026 at 6:46 pm #311221I can’t imagine any of the endurance pitching records being broken. Or Cal Ripken. With the high velo starters and bullpen arms, I cant see DiMaggios 56 game hitting streak broken either.
June 27, 2026 at 6:57 pm #311222Yeah, KCB, I recall that Ichiro impressed me as the sort of hitter that could possibly may make a run at DiMag’s hit streak and he never reached more than 27 games.
June 27, 2026 at 7:59 pm #311224Taking a gander at the Saturday night scoreboard:
The Cubs lead the Brewers 6-2 in the 6th at Miller Park.
The Reds got a two out two strike three run homer from Eugene Suarez in the top of the 9th and beat the Pirates 9-7 at Three Rivers Stadium.
And the Marlins lead the Cards 4-0 in the 5th at Busch.
Doyers and Padres are scoreless after one inning.
June 27, 2026 at 8:08 pm #311226No runs last night.
One run through six innings tonight.
Anybody have any idea why?
With the upcoming schedule I believe this is the start of the spiral downward.
June 27, 2026 at 8:10 pm #311227Another ho hum performance. Pallante was lucky to give up 4 runs. Offense sputtering.
Trade deadline sellers. Which is what they should be in a rebuilding year.
