This deserves its own thread.
Yesterday, the Cardinals informed the media of a press conference on Wednesday (6/24) at 1:00 p.m. regarding “Important News Related to Ownership and Organizational Leadership”. Bill DeWitt, Jr., Bill DeWitt III, Anuk Karunaratne and Chaim Bloom will be there.
Speculation is Jr. stepping back and III taking on more.
I assume there is some sort of DeWit family entity which is the principal owner of the team. So there is the possibility of a behind the scenes power structure besides whatever we hear today.
For whatever faults he has been accused of having (some of which may be true, and some not), it’s been fairly well established that BDW Jr is a fan of the game and team. My concern is that BDW III is a pure bottom line sort of guy. Hopefully that’s not the case and he is willing to spend when the farm system produces a core worth going all in with.
3’s job has been managing the business end. I make no assumptions what he will do in Jr’s role. But like I said, we don’t know about control of the entity that owns the team.

They probably have an LLC or LLLP that officially owns the team but if BDW 3 is eventually obtaining the same ownership shares that BDW Jr has (had) then I would assume the other ownership interests would still be in the minority.

BDW Jr overall has been a good owner. I hope III is a good, competent leader as well and not just there based on nepotism.
Obviously you want to keep it in the family, but businesses have been run into the ground because the kid was not up to par, and the organization should have gone outside the family for a talented manager.
3 is probably just as cheap as his dad. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I don’t see it altering the rebuild/reset at all. They won’t spend anything the next couple years unless the new agreement forces it.
Willie Jr’s. little man looks really sad and gloomy in the photo taken at the big press release today. I’m thinking he doesn’t want all of these added duties along with the extra work and responsibility that dear old dad has placed onto his shoulders. I don’t blame him. I’d simply want to be left alone to tool around in my Corvette, hang out at the pool, and enjoy plenty of fine dining and travel. Who needs the burden of running a baseball team when all you really need is a bigger forklift to transfer all that valuable paper to the bank?
BDWIII has quite a legacy to live up to. My sense is he will honor that and carry on in his grandpa’s and dad’s footsteps and do a fine job.
Then again, his grandpa traded Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas – sort of the Reds version of Brock for Broglio. Ouch! 🤨

Technically that is true but I read it as BDW Jr. will only intervene or oversee a few things and BDW 3 will oversee the huge majority of things. BDW 3 is basically running all of the day to day decisions and BDW Jr. will only step in if something major is happening, however you define major.

That is true. I expect the Cardinals to still be a frugal and conservative organization but I also get the feeling that Bloom is perfectly fine with that. I would wager that he enjoyed his time with the Rays more than his time with the Red Sox and not just because of how those tenures ended.
Yeah, I think a GM, or POBO or whatever you want to call them, would enjoy building a good club with younger home grown talent more than signing or trading for older guys.
Mo got into a mode where he usually wanted to add one more veteran star, and at the time that was not a bad way to go. I thought he overdid it a couple of times though, most notably Ozuna. I went back to our thread on that deal awhile back and had a post where I said I thought Mo should stick with what we had rather than trade youngsters for Marcel.
But hey, sometimes you roll the dice.
