Phew, but way too close for comfort!
Even 99 thigh high will come back to bite you. Can’t Helsley get a ground ball? Yeesh!
Chock up another series win. 20 more like this one needed.
Nice win! Love that Castellanos whiffs to end it.
Let’s hope we get the good Helsley tonight.
King with a nice inning! Now let’s get one here with Winn on second.
Three errors are the name of this game.
Good point, Rat. Even in Little League we were coached to always hit the cutoff man. And the cutoff man needs to be in position too. It seems even major leaguers don’t practice this basic skill. Many think they have stronger arms than they actually do, and others seem not to be aware of the play that’s developing on the field. Trying to throw home from the outfield when a runner is approaching second base is usually foolish, but seems to happen all the time for example. Would be interesting to hear the coaching staff talk about how (or if?) they practice relay throws from the outfield.
Looked like a t-ball game around third base. Plan to lose is a good description for Sunday lineups. That said, Noot just jacks that ball over the bullpen. Finally on the board and perfect game gone.
TO hammered that ball. Need to answer with at least two this inning.

Mellowed my mood to where I actually felt sorry for Refsnyder as he chased his missed ball to the wall, but good for us! Now need to keep the momentum up for CHC and CIN. We’ll see how long this lasts and if Oli and Mo were right about patience.

This 3 game set may not live up to the glory of the ‘67 WS, but it’s fun to watch so far. No Bob Gibson or Jim Lonborg on either team for sure. Was glad to see our old man TO have no impact on the outcome. Reminds me of when he was with us.
Something tells me there will be a lot of hits today. Crawford is no ace, his current ERA belies his career W-L record of 11-17. I think he’s due a spanking. Just hope Mikolas can keep it to the low single digits.
Yep, all for nothing. Again. Sorry but I put the blame squarely on Goldschmidt’s and Arenado’s shoulders. 1-5 and 0-5 just doesn’t cut it for the situation the team is in and their level of experience. You’ve got to get the ball to the outfield as a minimum with RISP. If you’re in a slump, figure it out or go home. Neither of them has figured it out.
We should just concede this series and move on. Not that the Angels will be any better…
Good golly. Right now it looks like this team has zero chance of turning this around. Arenado and Goldschmidt are horrendous at the plate, and this team’s not going anywhere without them. Last year I was against trading them, but now they need to go by the deadline to start shoring up some younger talent for future years.

April 30, 2024 at 5:49 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #30 thread – Tuesday, April 30 at Tigers #250191So glad we took that one despite Flaherty’s best outing. Gibson pitched a magnificent game too with Helsley bringing it home. I hope we get the good Matz tonight!
April 30, 2024 at 3:38 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #30 thread – Tuesday, April 30 at Tigers #250157Figures that Flaherty would have his best day in like ever. 12 SOs after 5.
April 30, 2024 at 2:55 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #30 thread – Tuesday, April 30 at Tigers #250150Yes, numbers might be misleading. But looks like Jack’s Achilles heel is 1.5 HRs per 9 innings with a WHIP over 1.0. He’s struck out 6 straight so far today. Ughhh!
April 30, 2024 at 12:26 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #30 thread – Tuesday, April 30 at Tigers #250130Poor Jack F. Four teams in two years and sitting at .491 ERA, his lowest ERA so far of any non-Cardinals teams. While I don’t wish ill of him, I do hope we help raise his ERA above .500 today.
Apple TV decides around 2 weeks in advance which Friday night game it is going to broadcast. So there may be more to come.
Jnevel- thanks for that. All the more reason to avoid that subscription!
We’ll, the good news is this should be the last Apple TV+ broadcast for the season according to the published broadcast schedule at Cardinals.com. The rest are 95% Bally Sports with a few Fox and ESPNs thrown in.
