Had to rewind to see the Contreras injury as I missed the first part of the contest. Man, that looked bad. Probably a broken forearm but we will see.

Dang – really thought Arenado was going to come through there. He has been right on it lately. Had no confidence in Goldschmidt at all, and he starts his AB by flailing at a pitch nowhere near the zone.

The Mets broadcast team is really good. Edmonds had some good insights on our offensive woes when he was the color guy last week. Talked about how Goldy is jumping ahead n his approach and the body is behind and has to catch up, which has him all out of sync.
I told Whitey Herdog, I said outloud, when Arenado and Goldschmidt were due up. I said:
“HERE COMES A LITTLE WEAK GROUND BALL OR WEAK FLYBALL AND THEN A STRIKEOUT!”
And what did we get? Exactly that.
The next time either one comes up in a clutch situation I would put Helsley up to bat. Or Helen Keller. You’d get the same thing.
I haven’t been watching much of late, but it seems like the team is cooked. It’s not uncommon for rudderless franchises to underperform their talent year after year. Given the course they’ve been on for the last year and a month, it sure seems like that’s the case. If you want any sort of hope in the next 3-5 years, you have to cut bait with the manager and start paring down the roster (Goldy and Arenado, bye bye, so long to anyone who’s not a 4-5 year piece for that matter) to begin the rebuild asap. Mo can ceremonially stay on til the end of his tenure, but a new decision maker is necessary (Chaim?) and all the pitching and hitting coaches in the org need to go. It’s time.
Most likely we will be six games under after tonight. Both the Cubs and Brewers came back late to win their ballgames.
And now our best hitter is out for probably two months you would think. Really just more and more low points with this club going on its second year.
I expected we would be about the same club as last year, but was hoping to be wrong. All you can say is maybe somehow someone will catch fire and the club will rally around that guy and make something of the season. But we are into almost 200 games of futility, which leads you to believe some big changes are needed.
Hitters have always tested the limits while standing in at the plate, but I just looked at a replay that clearly showed Martinez’ back foot was entirely out of the box. That’s on the HPU.
Yep, it is looking more and more like that stlcard25. Time to quit with the patchwork roster and set course on a 3-5 year plan. Should have started it after last season rather than sign the old pitchers, but that is water under the bridge.
The non-productive base excuses of “leadership” and “getting rid of guys who don’t care” need to stop. Get younger and more athletic players and build for the future – the present is a disaster.

Goldy needs a mental reset. I don’t think he physically has a problem, but his confidence is so low and he looks lost at the plate.
Good golly. Right now it looks like this team has zero chance of turning this around. Arenado and Goldschmidt are horrendous at the plate, and this team’s not going anywhere without them. Last year I was against trading them, but now they need to go by the deadline to start shoring up some younger talent for future years.
Ironically the pitching moves made over the winter were solid moves. Gray, Gibson, Lynn, Kittredge, and Fernandez have looked fine to me.
But my goodness how can the entire offense fall off a cliff at the same time? How is that even possible? The only productive hitter we had is now out for several months. You can’t make this stuff up.
The Cardinals need to totally clean house. I can’t think of many players on the 40 man who should feel safe and definitely no manager, coaches, and front office staff should feel safe.
So, I know it can’t actually be THIS bad but – what do the Cardinals have to build / rebuild around?
No starting pitcher is under the age of what 34-35?
Goldschmidt is done and Arenado is too old for a rebuild.
All the kids are tanking: Nootbar, Gorman, Walker, Herrerra, Donavan – Winn is ok for SS
As I type this I have no idea what anyone can reasonably do with this roster moving forward.
How does anyone fix this without burning it to the ground and doing a total 3-4 year rebuild like the Astros did?
Looks like a whole lot of folks are finally seeing the light. Welcome to the club. I’ve been saying it that this team needs a major overhaul from top to bottom. I said trade Goldy and Arenado. They are betas. They should have been gone long ago. The way Arenado whined told me he’s weak sauce. He’s not a leader and neither is Goldy who is about washed up.
This thing is an outright disaster orchestrated by a clueless POBO. That s-bag should have been fired years ago. There’s a reason LaRussa got out of dodge. To me it’s clearly connected to the guy running this franchise into the ground.
Problem is if they don’t can him soon he’ll be the one wasting another high draft pick in another month. The whole lot of them need to go and go now.
