Considering where(The Big Apple) we’re playing, you kind of had to expect that APPLE TV would get in on the action, Rat. The Brewers swept these guys 3 straight in New York to open the 2024 campaign, so why not us do likewise? It’ll be Friday gang, so I urge all of you non-fiddlers to stop fiddling around and join the Friday Game Thread Catfish Fiddler Din-Din Club. Let’s get a decent turnout for this on Friday shall we?
I just saw where Bellinger has a fractured rib(s). I wonder how long that will keep him out.
Not sure I will be going to Lakeview, the Amish restaurant north of town on the lake, for Catfish Fiddlers on Friday or not. Since I don’t have a St. Louis game to watch on Friday night I suspect I will have me a Hungry Man’s Turkey TV dinner.

What kind of Friday would it be without a heaping plate of the fiddlers, Rat? Please don’t let APPLE TV stand in the way of you and a great meal.
I think it’s free for a limited time, and you can then cancel. That is a bit of a hassle though – a game now and then that is not on television is no big deal to me. And with Mikolas pitching this one, it will probably spare us some angst and stress anyway. I’m thinking the Metropolitans take this one along the lines of an 8-3 score.
For me it probably doesn’t matter anyway. The lovely and talented Lady Bike is a big Colorado Av’s fan, and since we don’t have cable she will likely want to head to a nearby brew pub for a beer and some playoff hockey.
It’s NOT free. Apple TV+ subscription is required, which is $9.99 per month. They offer a 7-day trial period where you can cancel without being billed. That’s a terrible plan to have to subscribe, then cancel, to watch the Apple games every week. Apple probably wouldn’t allow that anyway.
All of that sucks because MLB markets MLB.tv and Extra Innings as providing ALL out of market games. What part of ALL do they not understand? Oh yeah, you can watch all on demand after the fact, which is probably how they dance around ALL. Lying scumbags. Also, I don’t stream (I watch via Extra Innings channels) so I can switch between games quickly and rewind with ease.
Good ole’ Pugs just might be able to be coerced into conducting a little PBP for Friday night’s APPLE TV game……treat me nice, gang……and all of your wildest big league baseball dreams just may come to fruition.
Well I am down to just broadcast TV since we cancelled the couple streaming services we had. So I doubt I’ll ever see another game here at home. I have been tuning in on KMOX, but I figure they will do away with free radio sooner or later.
So, the early returns are looking like the Cubs and the Brewers will battle it out for NL Central. Of course, last year I think the Pirates started 20-8 and then faded to a 4th place finish….
I do not think this edition of the Cardinals will finish better than 3rd and last place again is not out of the question.
Our boys generally don’t fare well vs these relatively unknown commodities such as this Jose Butto fellow. His last name…..”Butto”…..rekindles memories of another famous New Yorker from yesteryear by the name of Joey Buttofuoco. I’m going against the grain with my prediction of 6-5 Cards with Arenado shanking a long one into the left field cheap seats off this Butto fellow. Since there were no calls for my presence in the PBP booth for tonight’s APPLE TV game, I’ll be splitting my time between our game thread and ESPN, as my Packers have 2 selections in both the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the NFL draft tonight…..Go Pack Go. And what’s on tap for din-din this evening one may inquire? In honor of the aforementioned Joey Buttofuoco, I’ll be having sloppy Joes, catfish fiddlers, celery sticks…..some laden with Philadelphia cream cheese and others with Jiffy peanut butter and 3 Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies.
Butto is sporting a shiny 1/16 bb/k allowed vs righties, and a 8/5 vs lefties early on this season. The LAD lefties had some success recently vs Butto.
He’s stretched out and has thrown 90, 91 and 95 pitches with game scores of 65, 76 and 50 (vs LAD).
Early on here the Cubs and Crew are separating themselves from the pack in the NLE.
Meanwhile the local nine made a nice comeback yesterday against Mike Shildt’s Padres. With the Friars up 9-4 and needing six outs to seal a win, the Rockies put six on the board in the 8th. Shildt stayed way too long with a lefty he had working in the 8th.
Being Friday, din-din here will be pub-type food. If we stick around the homestead it will be chili dogs, with Bike Mike’s fabulous home made crock pot Chugwater Chili as the featured item. But as mentioned above, if we go out to catch the Avalanche-Winnipeg Jets hockey tilt, we will partake in whatever food truck is parked in front of the brew house.
Surprised there were no calls for Pugs to step behind the mike for this one. His melodic delivery and quick quips are a set of ears’ best friend. But alas, sometimes choices have to be made. Hope the Pack pick some future Pro Bowlers, Pugs! (Is there even a Pro Bowl anymore?) I think they play flag football for that now, right? If that trend continues, the MLB all-star game will be played slow-pitch softball style by 2035).
Pugs play-by-play seems to have some sort of pitch count 🙂
That may be a scheduling issue too, but he seems to have shifted to a pen role.
When we get complete game outings from Pugs, we’re the winners.
I cannot do PBP because my TV is in the living room and my computer is in the back bedroom. I am sure I would be another Harry Thornton or Lance Russell if I did indeed do PBP. But, no such luck.

Even though there were no loud boisterous calls for me to hop on in the PBP saddle tonight, ole’ Pugs here can read between the lines….and the lines say that the natives are getting mighty restless for some quality PBP. Ask and thou shall receive. Due to the NFL draft, your PBP reception will be coming in and out, but I promise you that if you follow tonight’s game thread, you will know more about what happened in this game than if you merely blew the game off and then caught the score on the 10 o’clock news. This is a guarantee that you won’t get anywhere else. Now let’s take it to these nasty Metropolitans shall we!
