Seems like we never fare well on those national broadcasts. Let’s hope tomorrow will be better with Sonny pitching… Nothing worse than losing to the Cubs.

At the game tonight. Sorry, didn’t realize it was Apple TV broadcast. Guys are playing great, Mikolas was stellar save one pitch. Arenado needed that triple with bases loaded, and fans went wild. When Victor Scott gets on base, the other team tenses up and you can sense it in the stands. Burly got robbed at bat by HP umpire calling some balls as strikes, but he’s doing the same to the DBs. Leahy might take it through nine, no sign of Helsley yet. So far so good!
So, Nolan wants to be traded, but only to a contending team, yet no contenders want him. How’s that working out for you, Nolan? A better attitude would be that he’ll make a team a contender, not just go along for the ride. So now, it’s almost as if he’s back on the Rockies, just at a lower elevation, which doesn’t help him or the Cards organization. I agree these no-trade clauses have to go.
ATM, I live just across the river in Il and go to 8-10 games a year. I’ve never felt unsafe before or after a game nearby the stadium, but I wouldn’t walk around at night either. Just had dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory last night by the river near the stadium and all felt safe. Downtown traffic is very light these days compared to pre-COVID, so driving is ok. Just stay on major streets. Union Station is a fun place to visit for the whole family – attractions, big Ferris wheel, the STL Aquarium, mini golf, etc., and a train ride if you have the time. Real nice ice cream parlor there too. The Arch is a must, and there is a very good museum underneath. The Old Courthouse a block west is also a good place to visit. Lots of restaurants around the stadium but I’d recommend Pappy’s BBQ on Olive Blvd just west of downtown. Used to have #50 on their smoker in honor of Waino but not sure if they still do. If you get adventurous, try The Hill with its many Italian restaurants just a few miles from downtown. Not sure about getting physical tickets but I’d ask at the stadium or shoot their customer service a note before you travel.
Goofball idea. Let’s make changes to improve the game without changing its structure. Pitch clock was a good idea, ghost runner was not. I’d like to know who these owners are that in favor of such a bad idea. Probably the higher payroll clubs…?
Wow, that was some finish! Congrats to the Dodgers. I’d like to think we could give them a run next season, but not looking good right now. They’ve got high class pitching, not to mention Freeman, Ohtani and Betts. But still looking forward to the spring!
Gotta give this one a 10 for entertainment value! Errors, home runs, high pressure. Can’t believe the Yankees let their ace flail for 28 pitches and five runs without a break. Thanks for nuttin’ coach! And there’s still four innings to go!
Finally a game worth watching! Yankees were pretty sure they had this one in the eighth. But why do they keep calling Clase the most dominant closer in the league when Helsley and Clase had the same # of saves? Bugs me to no end that they don’t even mention Helsley. Haven’t been on the board for a few days, so maybe already discussed. And oh by the way, unfortunately Clase didn’t look so dominant tonight.
As I’m typing Fry walks it off. Wow! What a win.
Another good game with SD and LA. Both sides have phenomenal pitchers, and hitters to match. Good to see Edman out there, but hope Shildt takes this one. Padres look loose, Dodgers look a little tense to me. Smoltz is a very good, objective analyst too. He seems to call the right pitches before each pitch which shows vey good insight.

How true about Costas. I’d hate to see a grown man cry if the Yankees lose, but calling Costas “grown” is a bit of an overstatement!
Love seeing the Yankees losing at Yankee Stadium, especially to a small market team. Hope KC can pull off the win. And the stare-down Ragans gave Soto after striking him out was worth the price of admission!
And is just me or is Costas completely in for the Yankees? He’s jumping out of his seat for every ball the Yankees hit, but gives a matter-of-fact call for hits and runs by KC. Another reason I haven’t liked Costas for the last 20 years.
I don’t guess many Cardinal fans watch these post-season games. Maybe that’s true regarding all baseball fans when their favorite team doesn’t qualify for a berth. In any case, I still really enjoy watching these high stakes Oct. baseball games.
I’m with you, 1TD. No real dogs in these fights, but I enjoy watching baseball played at a high level with all the stakes on the line. These pitchers, especially, are at a much higher level than our Cards. The need for some top tier starters is striking as I watch these teams compete. Just confirming what we knew early in the year, but here we are.
Well, this one is going south faster than U-Hauls to Florida! And Jim Carey just said Mikolas is the first pitcher to give up 5 consecutive hits since 1984 (Ricky Horton, no less). Fans noticeably irritated after Arozarena’s HR. If Mikolas is in the starting lineup again next year, we can just give up 2025.
Looked like a nice gesture from Wells at the end with a thumbs up to Helsley after the strikeout. That’s the kind of sportsmanship I like to see.
Ha! I’d give you a year and change before you’d start whining how it’s taking too long.
85booyah, “Ha!” is right! I’ll be complaining the whole way. Didn’t say I’d be happy about waiting three or more years, just that I’d endure it. But I’d let them know the whole time that our patience has run out. Cards used to be revered for their farm system and their knack for acquiring players, but they seem to have lost that over the last 10 years or so. Will take years and new management to re-establish it.
Bottom of the 9th 1 out bases loaded and ends with two consecutive strikeouts. Par for the course. Our batters are overmatched by almost all pitching now. Time to burn it down and build it back up from the ground. I’m willing to endure three years or more of cellar dwelling if that’s what it takes.
I hope Pallante puts in a better performance than the dud Mikolas threw last night. I was at the game, and without any radio or TV commentary, and it appeared Marmol conceded the loss when he left Mikolas in at 5-0. Probably saving bullpen arms for next few games. I left after 6 innings with no regrets.
