Stlcard25, thanks for the sentiments, you are right on all counts. Most of us thought we were looking at a 3rd or 4th place finish about halfway through the season but we ended up in the LCS after taking it to a pretty potent ATL team. Looking forward to 2020 with a few improvements that will get us to the Series… Good year, Cards! Now rest up for next year!
The cardinals aren’t known for dumping everyone especially in fowler and carps case they owe them lots of money.
You are right, 1982willie. a big change to our lineup will be very expensive, if even possible. And Cards’ reluctance to sign free agents means we’re probably in for a stretch of struggling in the Division.
But good for the Nationals. I wish them luck against the AL…could be Houston. Go figure!
Only fitting that Carp strands the bases loaded. Kind of sums up his season. I really hope there’s a massive shift in our lineup for next year, we were fortunate to make it this far and it won’t happen again with this crew. But other teams are seeing what we see, so trade value will be low for most of our starters. Would anyone really make a trade for Ozuna with his terrible defense? DeJong is a good defender, but can’t make contact any more. Carp…Fowler…’nuff said. There’s still hope for Bader in my view, Goldy should stay as should Wong and Molina. Maybe trade J-Mart for an AL outfielder. I’m hopeful for next year with our pitching, but this LCS was just pathetic and made our weaknesses stand out.
Came home to see a 7-0 rout, but feels more like an execution. Has there ever been such an unproductive LCS by the losing team in baseball history? Wouldn’t surprise me if no. Questions for MO for the off season…where’s our Robles? Where’s our Rendon? Where’s our Soto? That said, we are farther than most of us thought we’d be at the ASB. Just hope the FO doesn’t think that means we only need tweaks to get to the WS next year. We will need much, much more than that.
Time for a hit, guys. Bottom of the 6th is our inning. I’m feeling it.
Some terrible at bats tonight. Folten-whatever-his-name-is was made to look like Mickey Lolich because our guys were swinging at every slider off the plate that came their way. But, leaving Atlanta with a split is ok as long as we put some better at-bats together on Sunday. We should wrap this thing up by Monday. Just a shame Flaherty had no run support early, would have been a different game.
This is pretty close to a must win game
I agree with you BrockLou, but it’s a must win for the Braves, not us.
Flaherty is not sharp, but holding his own right now. Gotta get Swanson here…
Agree that Braves fans don’t deserve anything. They outclass only Cubs and Yankees fans in my book. And I still have visions of Jane freakin’ Fonda doing that stupid chop in the 90s. Let’s get win #2 today.
This is definitely not going to the Braves’ plan. They were certain they’d win with Keuchel on the mound yesterday. Will be very hard for them to rebound today w/MLB’s top pitcher facing them, but Cards still need to execute. Their biggest opponent today is overconfidence.
I wonder if the Cubs are enjoying watching the start of this series as much as we are?! Just sayin!
Great win tonight a# I was cheering from a local pub down here in Florida. Acuna admiring his right field hit was apropos for a team and certain players who think they are elite. Contrast that with, let’s say, Tommy Edman… advantage Cards for this series.September 29, 2019 at 5:21 pm in reply to: StL 2019 Game 162 thread: Sun 9/29 vs. Cubs: NLC Champs #109417
Back where we should be! NLC champs heading to the NLDS. Way to go, Cards! See you Thursday in ATL!September 29, 2019 at 1:19 pm in reply to: StL 2019 Game 162 thread: Sun 9/29 vs. Cubs: NLC Champs #109272
Flaherty is the guy to go with today. Not a tough call either. You have to have your best pitcher on the mound when the div title is on the line, provided he is ready, and he should be. 98 pitches followed by 4 days rest — time to man up, and I believe Flaherty will be up to the task. This is his game, his moment.
Goldy, you gotta do better than that. In that situation, getting the ball to the outfield is the minimum acceptable…because that’s what “elite” batters do. Hitting into a dp is a failure even if it did score a run.
As Baez and Rizzo go, so goes their team. We need to go in for the kill with no mercy then dance around the dugout and bullpen like idiots after every score. Just sayin.
Looks like the Cubs might have given up for the season. They lost tonight 4-2 to the Pirates, for Pete’s sake. Hope they keep that downward trend for another week. Agree with gscotter on needing to stay positive…we still have the upper hand, and Rockies have won 7 of their last 11. Brewers are finishing strong, but they won’t sweep the Rockies. We could very well sweep the Cubs at home. It’s going to be a great finish!
Goldy hits into the DP! A big hit would have been fun…oh well.
Cards not afraid to swing the bat, and aren’t intimidated by Quintana or any of their relievers. Time for the coup de grace w/Goldy up and bases loaded.
Last out to Bader! Whew, that was close! Great win to start the series!
Fox broadcasters are upset at the Cubs loss by the tone of their voice. Let’s get back to FS1.
Two down…pitch some strikes!
One down…let’s go Gallegos!
For all the grousing about Danny Mac and Jimmy, I’d take them a hundred times over this national Fox duo. On and on and on about the Cubs and the Yankees.
Couldn’t agree more. These national broadcasters, and ESPN is even worse, always favor the Cards’ opponents and the big media teams. Almost impossible to watch.
Flaherty pitching great and two excellent bunts. Edman leading the offense again, from the seven-slot. If Flaherty goes 7 innings, I like our chances because Hendricks doesn’t look as sharp as usual. We can easily take this series if they execute their game plan.
Watching the Fox broadcast, what’s with the face closeups? Very annoying. Is that supposed to appeal to the ladies or something? I don’t need to know who nicked themselves shaving.
Miller pitched a good game in the end, then Carlos showed he can get an out. I like our chances rest of the series now that Strasberg is out. Keep it going, Cards. Chicago is not giving up.
Best throw Marcel has ever made!
Strasberg at 76 pitches, time to score a few after the big defensive play.
At the game tonight, muggy and almost no breeze. Ball will carry so keep swinging!
Bad loss today, and Strasberg tomorrow. Schedule gets tough for us here on out. Bullpen needs to step it up.
