Helsley looked as good as I’ve ever seen him.

He almost had a perfect inning. His first 9 pitches were strikes.

Edit: Actually, all 10 pitches were strikes. But the 9th one was fouled off and the 10th was put in play.

Don’t feel bad for Flaherty at all. He had his best performance in years.

I’ve posted several times in the past about how Pages has a gift for coming through in big moments. I’ve always loved him because of this and how he is such a good field general. I heard his sac fly would have been a home run in 17 stadiums. Great win after the team just looked foolish for the first 5 innings. Great pitching kept us in it.

The bronze busts were hapnin in the ninth. Nice job in the 8th by Liberatore.

The two SP’ers combine for a total of 13.2 IP’ed, 1 ER, on 6 hits and 23 K’s.

I’m still a little dazed by the first 6 pitches from Helsley. All 6 were entirely unhittable.

In addition to settling at sea level with a .500 record, the Cardinals can also guarantee that they won’t be in last place tomorrow morning with a W in the second game of this doubleheader. It’s nice to know I’m pinning my hopes on Matz…

Now I’m really confused. I’ve got Arenado at DH and Donovan manning up at 3B. I’ll have to wait until they show the defensive alignment on TV.

So glad we took that one despite Flaherty’s best outing. Gibson pitched a magnificent game too with Helsley bringing it home. I hope we get the good Matz tonight!
