Hammel’s backdoor curves aren’t going to work much longer. 1st pitch always a big curve to edge of the plate, third strike all down and away. Cards swinging at a lot of balls off the plate. Time to shut that down.

Good win last night, and Wacha is pitching well lately. Situational hitting improving in the recent small sample size, but still encouraging. Would like to see the start of good run to put the Cubs on notice. Advantage Cards tonight.
Good to see them win, but this was way harder than it should have been. One pitch away from giving it up in the 9th, not like that’s ever happened before. Now string 20 of these wins together and I’ll be a believer in this season again.
Two lead off walks in the top of the 1st against the 4th worst team in baseball and can’t get a run across. This is our life now, folks.
They better take a close look at management too. Matheny is delusional right now, just listen to his post-loss interview last night where he does a bizarre psychological transference of the team he wants to the team he actually has. He actually said his players are putting together “great at bats” and that when one guy gets a hit, the others feed off that; they’re “grinding through” tough spots and putting themselves in good situations. Sorry, Mike, but That wasn’t the game or team I saw last night, unless of course, leaving ten men on base in a 3-2 loss is putting yourself in a good situation. This team is not playing well at any level, except starting pitching, and you need to admit that publically. Tommy Pham even commented on the stagnant offense last night. Time to get real.
As you are alluding to, that would say nothing about their ability to win the Div. This is an average team we want to see play like World Series Champs. It’s just not going to happen.
Was holding out hope there might be a way forward, but today’s loss means season is over. 54 games left and 5 games behind, and must move ahead of Cubs and Brewers to win the Div. Wild card not an option. Only hope now is that they can be a spoiler at the end of the season for the Cubs, either beat them in the final series or lose to the Brewers late Sep. Cards will end up 3rd barring a season ending injury on Thames or Broxton.
This is what it looks like when management over-promises and players under-perform. Grichuk, Piscotty, Fowler, Carpenter never played to potential, let alone the bullpen. Starting pitching only bright spot, but they are above average at best.
Maybe what’s most disappointing is management seems to be in denial about this team’s ability, or they think we’re stupid.
Edmonds says he had a long talk w/Grichuk before the game about batting, and gave him a few pointers. But Grichuk looks totally outclassed at the plate tonight.
Low probability of a win, I think. Unless Weaver can go long enough to avoid long relief. I can’t remember a time when the Brewers were better than us. Bad year all around.
Concur. He’s not a big game pitcher. Looks like he doesn’t know how to put a game plan together, just throws the pitch Yadi gives him, and not well some nights.
3-2 in the 5th. Good base running tonight. Even Wong’s out at the plate was a good attempt which needed a well executed throw. Cards inching their way back in.
This series is the season, for both teams. So far, looks like the Brew Crew is the only team that realizes it.
Oh puts up a zero. Always makes it interesting, but kept the ball down. Deserves credit for getting them through the 7th.
Yes, could be rough. Anyone know Wacha’s home/away record? I believe he does a little better away if memory serves. For offense, we just need to get on base in front of DeJong.
Cards looking like a pro team again. Defense seems to be improving too. Still weak bullpen, which is worrisome and will be their Achilles heel for the season, but good to see occasional good games and series.
I’m not sensing a big trade by the deadline just based on comments by team owners/management. Lynn maybe, possibly Oh. Doubt they’ll part ways with any starting position players. They are definitely thinking long term, not playoffs, so they’ll evaluate performance at the end of the season then adjust. May lose some opportunities now, but they’re willing to ride the season out with the current roster. Could be completely off base with that assessment, but we’ll see where we’re at in a couple weeks.
