Gibson going for the Cards.
I think this team has quit. I see this as a 65-70 win team just playing out the string now.
They have cratered.

Bottom of the 9th in San Diego. Score tied 1-1. Grove, a RHP, on the hill for the Dodgers. Padres have a runner at 2nd. 1stbase is open. And Dave Roberts pitches to Luis Arraez, the batting champion! BOOM! Single to center and the Dodgers lose 2-1.
1stbase was open, the run meant nothing! Why didn’t he walk Arraez?????
That is pretty unbelievable Rat. With one out and the winning run on second with first open, Roberts should have walked the batter whoever he was.
Yeah, you wonder what Roberts was thinking. Maybe he thought Grove was “Lefty Grove”, and figured “Heck, my Hall of Fame lefthander will blow this guy away.”
Kind of reminds me of a story Charlie Metro told me one time. He had a pitcher named Don Cardwell some of you old guys might recall. Apparently Cardwell was real stubborn and always wanted to do things his way. So he is facing Stan the Man and Charlie is managing the Cubs. Stan is coming up and Charlie goes to the mound and tells Cardwell, “Whatever you do, don’t throw him the fastball.” Charlie said he is walking back to the dugout and just on the top step when he hears this “Whack!”. Sure enough Stan hit it out, turning on a fastball. Charlie is yelling at Cardwell and says “Why did you throw him a fastball.” He said Cardwell simply said, “I thought I could slip it by him.”

I still can’t get over that .107 team batting average with the bases loaded. How can that be possible 37 games into the season?
The Pirates and Paul Skenes led the Cubs 6-1 today in Pittsburgh.
Then the Pirate relievers walked in four runs and then an infield single by Tauchman tied the game. Then the skies opened up and the tarp came out. 6-6 in the top of the 5th. Cubs have the bases loaded and two out when play resumes.
And yes, you read that right. Four straight two out bases loaded walks.

Was going to this evening’s game, but decided to go tomorrow instead. With Peralta dealing tonight, I don’t think I could endured another 9 innings of offensive Cardinal offense. I like my chances of seeing our boys get an extra base hit or two much better in tomorrow’s game. With the way we’ve been playing, coupled with it being a Saturday night, it promises to be deader than a doornail around here tonight…..but around here I shall be. For din-din I had this wonderful homemade spaghetti sauce over bakery French bread, fresh pineapple slices and 3 Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies. Let’s somehow someway find a way to defeat Peralta & Co. tonight shall we?
Din-din today was some Hormel’s Beef Tips and three ears of corn with Blue Bonnet on it. Along with an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew and a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream for dessert. Since there’s a rain delay in Pittsburgh and since the Cards start in one hour me and Whitey Herdog are holding off on the first 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar until first pitch at County Stadium.
As a side note, I am wore out. I jumped on the John Deere and mowed today. With all the rain we’ve had the last few days today was the first day it was dry enough to mow. And then after mowing I got the trimmer out and did a bunch of weedeating. Then I came in, jumped in the tub, got cleaned up, and fixed my supper. My back is really sore and I am wore out. That’s why I am looking forward to the games tonight. If the Cards game is a blowout one way or another I can switch over to the Reds game in San Francisco at Candlestick Park – I think.

Those din-din beef tips sound marvelous!
I’ve got some mutton shoulder chops ready to go on the charcoal grill. It’s not for everyone, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s a real treat for me. They are about the size of smallish pork shoulder steaks. A good inch thick. I get the yearling sheep cuts from a guy i used to work with who has a little place over in Illinois.
Believe it or not, I have never been tempted to try a single bite of lamb or sheep. Sounds terrible to me. What does it taste like, Bling.
Lots of family stopped over today to help us work in the garden. Being Mom’s Day weekend the kids dropped by. I did quite a lot of weed pulling and landscaping, so like Rats am a little sore – not too bad though.
They lovely Lady Bike had a roast going in the crockpot all day. She then mixed in green chile salsa with and we are having sort of barbacoa type tacos, with chips and guacamole. Cold water to drink as we had the beers going after awhile this afternoon with all the gang here – I only had one though. But after working water is best.
Will pass on dessert tonight. Will put the game on but may not watch much. These games are a bit tough to take. Still I still seem to be drawn to them – like watching the young guys to see what we may have to look forward to. Wish the Cardinals would just commit to a youth movement, 3-5 plan instead of pretending they are good.

What does it taste like
The only way I can describe it is somewhat like venison, but greasy like pork shoulder steak, or moreso. The lamb like in the store is much milder and somewhat less greasy. Yearling, or mutton, is for manly men.
Radio guy, John Rooney I think, says the Brewers hitters look relaxed, like they are just reacting to the pitch. He was contrasting to what Lynn said yesterday about the Cardinals needing to play more relaxed. I can imagine the Cardinals hitters being loaded down with “input”. Metrics, biomechanical BS, whatever. No wonder they can’t hit.
After a Contreras double, Gibson gets the next two to escape the 1st unscathed in a scoreless ballgame.
Thanks for the lamb taste description, Bling. I think I’ll continue to opt for the beef instead.
A 2 out soft single to right is all the Cardinals can muster in the top of the 2nd. Peralta looking tough…..wish we had him.
