June 2, 2024 at 9:16 pm #254861Nice win! Love that Castellanos whiffs to end it.

jj-cf-stlParticipantThey found a way!
Hat-tip to the pen.
June 2, 2024 at 9:20 pm #254865Nice W with 6 scoreless from the BP and 0 ER’s in 10 innings from Cardinal pitching.
June 2, 2024 at 9:23 pm #254866Bullpen was great tonight.
June 2, 2024 at 9:25 pm #254867Winn on pace for 25 errors this season…
June 2, 2024 at 9:29 pm #254869Yeah, that’s too many, LA. The oven mitt is beginning to really burn.
June 2, 2024 at 9:32 pm #254871Haha…Believe it or not, the Redbirds are now in sole possession of the 3rd NL WC.
June 2, 2024 at 9:41 pm #254872LOL. A sub .500 record is good enough for the playoffs!
And that is all the Cardinals aim for…..
June 2, 2024 at 9:44 pm #254873Yeah, it may not happen in my lifetime, but odds are that eventually a regular season sub .500 team may go into the books as a WS winner.
June 2, 2024 at 10:10 pm #254874If Winn keeps struggling at SS. Would they consider Saggese at SS if he could just be as steady as DeJong? No doubt, Winn would be a fabulous CF with that speed and arm. Especially, if Scott continues to have batting issues. Saggese has been playing a lot of SS at Memphis. Saggese hasn’t hit extremely well, yet , at Memphis. But like with Burleson, I believe the Cardinals know he’s going to be a heckuva hitter. This is just for speculative discussion. Critics, try not to overreact. lol
June 2, 2024 at 10:17 pm #254875Winn isn’t moving off SS. Especially for Saggase who was reportedly an average 2B defender. Saggese is playing SS now, but that is probably prep for a super util role. Winn just turned 22 and has amazing tools and just needs to polish them over time. The greatest defensive SS Ozzie Smith himself had 20+ errors each of his 1st 3 seasons.
June 2, 2024 at 10:21 pm #254876“The greatest defensive SS Ozzie Smith himself had 20+ errors each of his 1st 3 seasons”. Wow ! That’s amazing. ATM, thanks for posting that.

ParticipantHow about we wait until Saggese (74 wRC+ at Memphis) demonstrates he can be at least an average hitter at AAA before we talk about him as a MLB 2B, let alone SS?
*Correction: 69 wRC+ including last year.
June 2, 2024 at 10:43 pm #254880That’s accurate, but Smith had 830 or more chances at SS in each of his first 3 seasons and he was awarded a GG at the position in his third season. Winn has committed 9 E’s in 217 chances. That’s relative to about 34 E’s in 800 chances. I’m not trying to be overly critical of Winn, but I think comparing his time at SS to Ozzie Smith’s first 3 seasons is a little vague.
June 2, 2024 at 10:52 pm #254881I wasn’t trying to compare Winn to Ozzie as he isn’t close to that type of defender and won’t be, but I wanted to point out errors are a great measure of defense. And it is something that Winn will improve over time.
June 3, 2024 at 3:36 am #254882Smith played at least some of his career on carpet I believe. Not sure how that factors, just mentioning.
