RHP Miles Mikolas (2-4, 5.68) vs. RHP José Buttó (0-2, 2.57)
BSM // KMOX // WIJR
Also BS Southeast and Southwest ExtraMay 5, 2024 at 9:17 pm #250947Oh no not Butto!!
May 6, 2024 at 10:24 pm #251080The box score claimed only 31K for the first game of this Mets series. Seems a bit skinny even for a Monday game.

jj-cf-stlParticipantWe’re 1-5 W/L in our last 6 games. If we continue to get slapped down our next six, you can find me in the trade ideas thread. It’ll be seller time, and I’ll be focused on trade targets.
2 vs Mets and 4 games at the division leader. If you can’t compete, sell.
May 7, 2024 at 8:00 am #251091I dont think anyone saw the offensive crater coming.
I thought they should have traded Goldschmidt and I didn’t expect much from Winn but I thought the offense would cook with Donovan, Edman, Nootbar, Arenado, Gorman, Walker, and Contreras.
I suppose things could still turn around but I’ve never seen this many Cardinals go bad all at the same time
Outside of Contreras and Arenado (sans power) – nobody is doing anything. I’m flabbergasted.
I think they are still only 2-3 games out of the third WC spot as the bloated playoff system is working as intended to keep 85% of the teams “in contention”.
May 7, 2024 at 8:44 am #251093I’ll be focused on trade targets.
Mo has very little to offer.
May 7, 2024 at 10:13 am #251104I hate to wave the white flag this early but this situation feels like it could spiral out of control in a hurry. That White Sox series was a real gut punch. It is starting to resemble the mood of last year except it is no hitting instead of no pitching. I still don’t think the Cardinals will do a major rebuild but it is starting to look like we will be getting rid of our rentals, although I don’t know if they really have that much value.
May 7, 2024 at 10:43 am #251105It’s been out of control since May of ’23 and the genuine possibility exists that the ’24 season could also be over and done well before the month of June. They have to do what should have been done a year ago.

jj-cf-stlParticipantIf you ain’t contending, you are pretending.
May 7, 2024 at 12:52 pm #251112Everyone that was being realistic was saying trade the big contracts and get the rebuild underway. But I don’t beat my head against st the wall when it was clear that this was the direction they insisted on heading. I’m still a fan and support them. But they wasted a boat load of money and a good draft pick, and now the value of those players has cratered.it will be a long climb back.
May 7, 2024 at 1:12 pm #251113The last two major FA signings, Gray and Contreras, is all that is saving us from flatlining.
May 7, 2024 at 2:00 pm #251117LHH-heavy.

May 7, 2024 at 2:47 pm #251120Sorry Blinger but they aren’t saving us. They’re the best we have, I give you that.
May 7, 2024 at 2:47 pm #251121Goldschmidt still hitting third? – Crawford and Siani?
I guess it’s like the old Texas Hold ’em line, “Any two cards can win” – Any lineup can win.
May 7, 2024 at 3:00 pm #251122BAs added for context.
LF B. Donovan L .216
C W. Contreras R .274
1B P. Goldschmidt R .203
3B N. Arenado R .286
DH A. Burleson L .241
RF L. Nootbaar L .175
2B Nolan Gorman L .182
SS B. Crawford L .105
CF Mike Siani L .191May 7, 2024 at 3:07 pm #251123Not sure what they are thinking. Butto’s splits indicate RHH are much better against him than LHH.
RHH 2024 .623 OPS
LHH 2024 .550 OPSRHH career .734
LHH career .571May 7, 2024 at 3:10 pm #251124Hmm. I wonder if Carlson is going to sit out vs righties regularly, of is he just being eased back in. Will it be a regular CF or more of a platoon?
May 7, 2024 at 3:17 pm #251125I think reverse split recognition comes with the premium lineup algo. Maybe next year, fingers crossed.
May 7, 2024 at 3:20 pm #251126What’s the forecast for the metro St. Louis area tonight? I keep hearing about tornado watches here in SW Indiana and bad weather in the Midwest. The Doppler Radar doesn’t show anything at the moment – 4:30 est.
We do have a Tornado Watch in effect until 9:00 est tonight.
Din-din today was a trip to the German restaurant down in Jasper, IN – the Schnitzlebank. A ground sirloin steak, german fries, green beans, and a coke. For dessert, after I got home, 3-4 of those big chunky Chips Ahoy Chocolate Chip cookies.

ParticipantNot sure what they are thinking. Butto’s splits indicate RHH are much better against him than LHH.
It hasn’t been quite as bad as last year, but Marmol’s obsession with handedness (as separate from actual productivity) in lineup construction continues . . .
May 7, 2024 at 3:29 pm #251129His real obsession has been not allowing two RH’s or two LH’s to bat in consecutive order but I think he has finally gotten past that.

ParticipantHis real obsession has been not allowing two RH’s or two LH’s to bat in consecutive order but I think he has finally gotten past that.
That’s part of what I was talking about. He seems to have gotten over the LRLRLRLR fixation, at least for now.
May 7, 2024 at 3:35 pm #251132The over/under on Goldschmidt’s strikeouts tonight is 2.5. You taking the over or under? I am thinking I will take the under tonight.
2024 1985
Donovan Coleman
Contreras McGee
Goldschmidt Herr
Arenado Clark
Burleson Van Slyke
Nootbaar Pendleton
Gorman Porter
Crawford OzzieAbout the only similarity I see here is Arenado/Clark and Burleson/Van Slyke.

May 7, 2024 at 4:00 pm #2511346 hitters in tonight’s Line up batting 216 or less! Only a select few teams can make a line up that is that bad! Welcome to the cellar dwellers!
May 7, 2024 at 4:24 pm #251136Well, the team BA is .215 so that ties in pretty close with the .216 mark. The Cardinals are also dead last in HR’s with only 23. I’m reminded of Lasorda’s Bevacqua rant.
