we should not be starting Waino, just so he can get a certain wins number for personal reasons.
Woodford should be getting more starts and experience… he has a career 3.90 ERA, and certainly needs more starts.100% Correct Lee. or use Matz as your main lefty and option Cabrera.
Woodford thrived when he came out of the pen last season; had some struggles as a starter, but also had a couple nice outings… would be good to see him more.Marmol should be gone, NOW!
From day 1, he has divided the clubhouse.. starting in Spring.
Veterans you get your stuff done, and younger players stay out of their way.!
I think maybe, Maybe 1/2 of the team is ok with him… the other 1/2 would love to see a change.
He has zero respect from a majority of the team, and it shows… nobody really wants to play for him.
Look at the successful managers of today and past, all have the respect of the players and for the most part like the manager… I don’t think anybody really like Ollie.I sure hope Gio is injured, because if he is not ollie boy should be canned! Gio had 3 days rest coming into the game last night. and just because he got hit his last outing does not mean you abandon him.
very bad managing. unless Gio is hurt, Marmol must go.!Woodford looked really good his last outing. velo sitting 94ish, breaking stuff was good and command was on as well. Hope he gets back up…
Looks like Woodfords rehab in Memphis ended really well.. 3 inngs, 0 hits, 2 k’s.!
Heading back to St.Louis now.
I wonder what they will do with him…? I would put him in the pen and replace one of several guys that are there now: Verhagen, Stratten, Pallante. Woodford seemed to do much better coming out of the pen vs starting. He could be a good option. We would be a much better team with Schildt as the mgr.! He seems much more seasoned and most important the guys respect him. I think there is lack of respect for Ollie and guys just don’t seem to gel with him.
I think he needs to go.. sooner would be better than later.
But then again, the real problem is the FO. Even if they change mgrs., they will only bring someone in that they can use as a puppet, as they do now.Ya. I saw the game Lee. He looked good, just one mistake… but thats why he is “re-habbing”!
He will get his control better in 1-2 more outings and his velo was solid. He should be able to help the big league club soon.Agreed Lee. except I would give Walker some more time in aaa, the outfield will sort itself out shortly.
Burleson should not be in the field and Oneil is unreliable. The way guys are playing now this would be the best lineup.
OF – Nootbar, Donovan, Edman.
IF – Arenado, DeJong, Gorman, Goldy.
DH – Contreras
C Kiz
SP – Miles, Jordan, Jack, Libby, Woody.
RP – Gio, Hels, Thompson, Pallante, Waino, Matz, Hicks, Stratton/VH.I agree blingboy. Its wrong, but thats the way it is.
With 3 leftys in the pen, I hope they move one of them down to aaa, and have Woody for long
relief role..cause we all know we will need it.
Prob. Romero.Jnevel.. I love the positive vibes..!!
Well, we certainly blew that game. Wow! Not sure what our catcher was thinking calling for 4 sliders in a row, to a guy who can’t hit fastballs? I guess Hels, could have shook him off as well, but with this darn pitch clock its hard to keep getting new signs.
Probably would have been a really good time for a mound visit after the first run in the 9th..!
Oh well, move on; Woodford looked actually very good. slider was good, most pitches down getting ground ball, except for that ONE to Yaz.! But with a clean game of no errors, he allows 1 run on 5 hits, I’ll take that any day. Good to see Cabby back in form as well.Lets hope Monty and Woody keep up the good work and get us a couple W’s..!
I don’t think we saw anything the FO didn’t see with Hicks. They are not that blind, just stubborn. They just gave him a nice raise and can’t admit, again, they are wrong in that decision. I think the starting pitching and the bullpen rely upon each other and therefore are linked. Having a AAA group who can spell the team is crucial, whether its bullpen or starting. as we have seen repeatedly in the past, so many starters in AAA come up and start out in the bullpen to get accustomed to the majors. If you fix one, this has direct impact on the other, whether good or bad. of course fixing both is the goal, but you need a FO and Mgr who are honest with themselves and their decisions, right or wrong.
Why in the world are they hanging on to Hicks..??? he does not seem like he wants to be in St.Louis anymore. He refused to be sent to aaa to work on his control. this tells me he really is done with the Cardinals. And for Marmol to say we are going to work on his pitching, IN MAJOR LEAGUE GAMES, is just about the silliest thing I’ve heard so far this year. You cannot count on this guy. not now.
Seems like it always comes down to the lie, “we will play the best players”. Marmol has said this since day one of his term and still is not true. If your saying Hicks, right now, is better than Woody, Libby or even Dak, thats an issue. If Libby is looking that good, keep him in AAA for, and bring up when needed.
Keep Woody in pen as long relief, cause we all know the starters are not going lone enough.
Push Hicks to AAA, if he declines, just let him go… his attitude is not good; I think he is pouting as he thinks he should be a starter>> LOL. With Waino back this would be your best staff:
SP-Miles, Monty, Jack, Matz, Waino.
RP – Gio, Hels, Zach, Cabby, Woody, VH, Strat, Pall.I heard Stratton may be on the IL. hamstring issue..? any other info…
You are correct Lee. That was a big spot for Woody in front of about 40,000 fans.! Got 2 big dbl plays, but thats the game, and he gets those often as he keeps the ball on the ground. He did a great job. Good to see Contreras get a hit, he certainly needed it.! Now lets get some more today.
GO CARDS.stlcard25. Your really think Woody was roughed up his last outing..??
If we had a average LF in the game, then the fly ball gets caught and the 2 runs do not score. Any other Cardinal OF would have caught that.. except Burly or Yepez, both of whom should not be in the field, should only by DH or 1st. So if this ball was caught, Woody gives up 1 run in 5 innings!
explain that being roughed up..???Libby 2022. almost a 6 era.

Its not just the innings, its command and being consistent.
I re watched the game from Sunday, and noted that Woodford actually pitched very good.. If we have an average Left Fielder in the game, that fly ball gets caught and the 2 runs do not score. Woodford easily could have finished 5 inngs, with a 1-1 tie.! Lars being hurt probably cost us this one. Burly should be used very sparingly, mostly as occasional DH.
Good point Lee. Pitchers, like hitters need more than one game to be accurately evaluated.
Pitchers could give up 5 runs in one game, and then 4 over the next 2 games and have a 3 era.
same with hitters, go 0-4, than 4-8, .300
Lets give the team a little time…The inside scoop on Woodford outing, was Contreras calling way too many 4 seam fastballs.. He should be calling mostly sinkers and sliders, which are Woodfords best pitches. His 4 seam isn’t fast enough to use very often, just to equalize once in a while. Woodford was not comfortable shaking him off, as he is did just sign a huge contract…but, if Woodford can learn to shake off pitches and throw what he knows is a better pitch that day, he will be much better. Now if there is enough time with the pitch clock, I’m not sure…
A pitcher that is performing as well as Woodford is does not go to AAA! That would be insane.
The cards starting rotation will need plenty of help getting through the middle innings and Woodford is primed for that spot.BW. nice article on Woodford. guess we’ll see what the FO wants to do with him.
NOTE: he is 26, not 27 until after the season.!
