(and Bally Sports Southeast/Southwest)This game feels like trouble. Sure it’s still early but even if a team is going to putter around and make a late charge to get into (not almost get into) the playoffs then they need to be right around .500 so they have a base to take off from.
I afraid the losing has become contagious and the players expect bad things to happen.
As I stated in my long rant earlier last night, losing breeds losing. And as long as we keep thinking about being losers, we will be. It’s not about our quality of players. Edman is a great defender. He’s shown us that time and again. And yet last night, he essentially made 3 errors. Helsley has nasty stuff. And yet last night he let up and gave up a double and a homer. When you expect to lose, there’s a good chance you’ll find a way to do so. This statement may sound silly to a lot of people, but I fully believe our fans including us are every bit as much accountable for this problem as our players. We need positive attitudes in both our fans and our players right now. But when we all keep piling on blame, it’s hard to not buy into that narrative. That being said, I’m now a hypocrite for blaming us on being negative as part of our problem. But I’ve seen lots of teams who were the best on paper implode. And I’ve seen a lot of David’s beat up Goliaths because they believed in themselves and others believed in them.
I suggest we try a little experiment here at TCN. And as silly as it sounds, I challenge each and everyone at The Cardinal Nation to get behind our boys 100% for this next game and going forward every game until we lose again. No blame. Just positive attitude. I know some of us are going to have to try really hard! But please give it at least one game. We ans fans can make a difference and it’s time to step up and do so. Tonight our losing stops and The Cardinal Nation is going to lead the way.
Go Cards! You got this one tonight. Matz is going to carry the flame from the torch that Flaherty lit and passed onto Montgomery and Woodford. And our offense is going to have a lot of fun tonight.
ZTR – it’s doubtful they do. And that really doesn’t matter one bit. All I’m asking for is one game. It can’t hurt, right? Let’s do our part. Or don’t. And just keep hoping for someone else to do theirs.

There’s absolutely no question that this guy is in dire need of a spokesperson. Under no circumstances should he ever be allowed to address the media…He simply ain’t too swift.
One question. and I’m a little ashamed that I don’t know this, but…
last night, a batter hits the ball to Tommy, who fails to make the play. a few pitches later, runner attempts to steal 2nd, throw from the catcher isn’t even close, ball goes past infield to the outfield and runner goes to 3rd, Dylan then misses scooping up the ball and it gets past him, runner then goes home and scores without a play..?? How is this run Earned.?? two errors on the play and its the pitchers fault.?I am buying in to jnevel’s narrative. Let’s turn the narrative around.
This club has too much talent, too much spirt, and too much history to be losers. Things are gonna change. We saw the spark last night. It’s going to happen folks.
The season will go down as one of the more remarkable turnarounds in Redbird history.

My positive comment, although I admit is a back handed compliment, is that the Cardinals are positioning themselves beautifully for the 2024 draft.
Lee…I thought Edman should have made that play, but it was ruled a hit and not an E-6. Since the basrunner reached on what was ruled a hit and then came around to score, it’s an ER. I’m aware that it doesn’t seem fair to charge that run to the pitcher after the 2 E’s on the circus type of performance after the SB, but since he reached on a hit, that’s the way it’s scored. It also would have been an ER if the baserunner had reached on a BB, but not if he had reached base on an E.
Losing is a state of mind, or at least 50 percent of it is, and once into it even more difficult to overcome than a defective swing or pitching mechanics. The only way to correct it is with LEADERSHIP. And with our club, where is that going to come from? I don’t think it’s going to come from the top step. I really hate banging on the manager, but as they say in France, ya gotta call a cat a cat.
Win or lose, I’ll watch tonight’s Cardinal baseball action until the last out of the game is recorded. I don’t know if my favorite team will win, but I’ll show up for the game and genuinely hope that the fellas add a W to the column on the left. Furthermore, I’ll continue to be reasonably certain that my favorite team will repeat as champions of the NLC this season and nothing will change my mind about that until the simple arithmetic tells me that it’s no longer possible. I’ve followed Big League baseball and the StL. Cardinals in particular for a little bit more than a minute or two and the genuine reality is that if I knew what was going to happen, I certainly wouldn’t bother watching. Moreover, the one thing that I’ve learned that I’ll always be entirely certain of is this…”youneverknow!”

The fearless leader of this organization has ruthlessly demonstrated his ability to not only neutralize, but to also crush all opposition and dissent. It’s a facist sort of empire…Haha!

I’m not quite sure I understand what that means. What I do believe, however, is that for the most part leadership cannot be learned. You either have it or you don’t. Some aspects and some techniques can be acquired, of course, but in general true leaders are born, not made, though sometimes it requires certain circumstances for them to rise to the fore.

Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you can start to excel. Maybe last night was that point? Sure felt like it. I agree they have too much talent to be losing games like this. Just hope they can turn it around enough to be contenders by Oct.
CiF, if they have leaders, they suck at it. I’m guessing they don’t. They may have cheerleaders though. That looks the same on paper.

I read all the comments regarding last night’s game. Almost no blame given to Helsley…. Marmol is taking all the heat. IMO the rookie just guessed right. Very poor timing for this to happen to a team that’s floundering.
The biggest flaw in the Giants 9th last night was Edman’s error to start the inning. That started the momentum going SF’s way, and it just continued. As I was watching, once Helsley got two strikes on Sabol, I was saying to throw him a pitch up in the zone with some zip – one of those 98 MPH heaters. I felt there was no way Sabol would be able to do anything with that pitch, as he was getting worked low in the zone and would not catch up with the high fastball. If he even got a piece of it, he would have fouled it straight back or popped it up. But Helsley went with the lower pitch again and boom!
Now I did see something from Marmol that impressed me. I am not a big Marmol fan, but after Woodford finished up a very good start, Marmol went over to him in the dugout and gave him a man hug. I thought that showed leadership, and was encouraging. I really felt we would win that game. Still sort of shocked at the outcome.
Oh and about Arenado – something looks off. Like was said about the body language, he seems to be lacking confidence right now. He has too good of a track record for this to continue too long, but we need him to get back to his usual standard. Contreras has ramped it up, now we need Nado to get going again.
How is this run Earned.??
Lee, I addressed your question in the previous game thread. I thought it was deja vu all over again, lol. Essentially, the scorekeeper makes a decision as to whether or not the run would’ve scored without the errors. He determined it would have scored anyway. As a counter example, had Woody struck out the next two batters immediately after the two errors, the run would not have scored without the errors, and therefore, would have been ruled an unearned run.
