BikeMike, I think we as fans need to have some more patience with certain pitchers. Especially ones that look like they’re still learning. Oviedo fits that. Liberatore is certainly another that we’ve seen so many of us harp on before even though he was (and is) still so young.

Thanks Gio. I like no drama saves.

Was really thinking Contreras needs a day off, but now that he ended his 0fer, maybe not now.

I wonder if DeJong’s rehab stint is over since he didn’t play for Memphis tonight. He did 6 games split between PB and MEM.

Yeah, catching has been the same black hole in the lineup as last year. But at least last year we had Yadi’s defense. I wasn’t a fan of the Contreras signing. I have no doubt that he will hit a lot better than he has. But 5 years is a really long time for a poor defensive catcher in his mid 30’s. At least we have Herrera, Bernal, and Crooks coming up to potentially move him to backup long-term.

Is it possible to get benched during a rehab stint? That would be approaching Uecker territory.

Nice to add a number to the column on the left. Just need to keep on matriculating…

Haha! “Uecker territory”…You have to be incredibly talented to tread in that exclusive area of the baseball world!

Jnevel – I have commented quite a bit about the Cardinals seeming lack of giving athletically gifted players a chance to play. Guys like Arozarena, Garcia – the guys with the good body type that are real good athletes. O’Neill fits that category as well but they have stuck with him.

Oviedo impressed me in a start out here (Denver), where the results were not all that great, but you could see the pedigree was there – good body type, good arm, nice mix of pitches. Just a bit young and needed better command.

Woody was good enough, and the pen was very good. Nice to get the W. Need to keep it going tomorrow.

Woodford wasn’t his sharpest, but sure as heck did a great job. scattering 7 hits and 3k’s..AND ZERO RUNS! not allowing runs is the goal. don’t need to pay attention to other stuff it takes care of itseltf.

You are correct Lee. That was a big spot for Woody in front of about 40,000 fans.! Got 2 big dbl plays, but thats the game, and he gets those often as he keeps the ball on the ground. He did a great job. Good to see Contreras get a hit, he certainly needed it.! Now lets get some more today.
    GO CARDS.

If he shows up on the MLB roster it will probably not make a huge difference. The last guy on the bench is the least of our problems. Motter is only throwing down an OPS+ of 83 anyway.

There should be some roster shuffling soon. Nootbaar is back with the team after a one-game Springfield rehab. Didn’t see DeJong in the dugout with Lars last night, but maybe he is on the way.

Noot’s return is of much more interest than PDJ’s potential return. Presumably, Yepez will go, but he has not been a factor during this stint. I think they want to play Burly as much as possible, so we’ll see how they accomplish it. Position assignment shuffles will be intriguing also. Outfield defense is going to have to be more of a consideration at some point soon. And then there is the elephant with a lampshade on its head, which is that there is one too many guys.

Related to the one too many guys angle is that Gorman is asserting himself very persistently. Anything besides less pine time for him would be outrageous. That doesn’t mean anything though, based on the craziness we’ve seen. We have a wealth of potential on the position player side, if it comes together the pitching side will have a chance to catch its breath.
