That would be great Lee, except it would never happen. best case is maybe 1/2 of the guys listed get a fresh start elsewhere. Let MO bring in more guys who are cheap, older and on the decent of their careers!
that would just be the same of what he has done the past few years.

Really disappointing that Waino is till getting meaningless starts. The player is done. He has had a great career, but enough is enough. He is getting shelled almost everytime he goes out there. They should be giving these innings to some of the younger players to help in the near future.
Wainwright should take the 198 and say “hey, great career!”
As he said, the difference between 198 and 200 is only a number, not a big deal… well if this is true then he should not be starting period.
But, my guess is he will continue to start.. why, just cause. FO and OM at it again.

Lawrence, give up the first single, which scores 2 runs.. walks a guy, and then
give up a home run. why is he there..??? fastball of 89-90, and is too predictable.

Bling, I agree. He is better in the pen. and yes, Lee, if he can continue to put up those numbers, he should surely be up. Now he just needs MO and OM, to get him up again.!!!

What is your take on Woodford? Should they cut him loose.? Should he be up in the pen?
I think he has 1 option left, but I think it would be used if he stays in AAA this year…? not sure.
I think that several teams could use someone like him on the roster. He had a couple bad games early this season and was hard to come back from..ditto for most of the pitchers this year.
I believe he has turned the corner and is ready to be a contributor either here or elsewhere.

WOW! Looks like Woody has found a nice rhythm. I agree, he needs to be up; there are any number of slots you can put him in. Pitching this well, is just being wasted in AAA.
If he does not get back up, you can certainly see he may be done in St.Louis. Maybe the FO is ready to move on from him… this would actually benefit him, as their are many teams that need a steady 5 inng guy or a long reliever!

I guess when it is said “to have a short memory in baseball”, it seems to be true of management as well…
after London, Woodford went on IL, and now has been demoted to AAA..??? go figure.-

“MVP of the series, because he really locked it down and he saved us,” closer Jordan Hicks said. “I called [Woodford] the MVP after the game and that’s what he is. If we played every series in London, he’d probably be the Cy Young or something.”
Added manager Oli Marmol: “We had some big hits, but what Jake did today — especially following what he did [on Saturday] — he was one of the most important parts of that game. It takes a lot to be able to do that, so for him to give us what he did, it was amazing.”

Ya, they obviously like Libby more than Woodford… I agree with not just this comparison, but look at the guys who are in the pen now…? Wow, several of these guys should not be there…!
    Barnes, ERA = 11.25
    Waino, ERA = 8.10
    Suarez, ERA = 7.02
    Rom, ERA = 7.24
    Libby, ERA = 6.12
    Woodford, ERA = 5.67
Plus, Woodford has an option left and is more controllable. Barnes, Suarez,Waino, all much older than Woodford as well.
    It really makes zero sense.!

I have to agree with Lee. Why keep all these guys who have been less effective..? makes no sense.
But I suppose this is what we all should expect from the manager and Mo.!
Owners needs really shake things up or this team is doomed again next year. MO and OM must go, they simply do not have the respect of the players or fans.

Agree Lee, Woodford pitching too well to sit down in aaa..! As we all know, many times if a player stays on one team for too long, they and the FO/Management get complacent. This may be the case with Woodford. He has been with the Cards since the draft in 2015… maybe the best thing for him would be a fresh start with new coaching eyes on him. Many players move and become better, more versatile players.
If they aren’t going to utilize him, the this is a good option.

Maybe, but Ryan won’t last…obviously something still not right in his arm/ forearm..?
I would take Hels and Noot and Woody, then drop down or let go one of (Suarez,Lawrence,Barnes)!

Thanks all. I agree jnevel, Woodford excelled in the long role… Rom had 1 bad outing and 1 good outing, the verdict is still certainly out for him…and not sure about Hels-bells…? seems as though something is still not right in his arm..?

Hey Brian, do you know what the plan is for Woodford? Seems like he has had a few too many rehab assignments, and has been pitching very well…? Wondering if he will get back up or maybe they are going to move on from him via trade or ….? any idea.?

Thompson seems to be settling in..!
. Pallante seems to always give up 1 run..?
The month of Aug. he has 9 appearances:
    11 inngs.
    14 hits
    7 runs
    3 bb
    5 k
    era= 5.73

Need to get Woody back up now! There are a number of guys he is better than..Barnes, Lawrence, Rom, Suarez, Waino..LOL. Looks like he tweaked his slider/sweeper to get more swing and miss…!
watched his Springfield rehab last night and looked in control of all 5 inngs. His fastball was on the corners, curve was nice and the sweeper looked like it was sweeping..!
He just needs a little more time to keep it all consistent, once he does that he will be a solid piece of any pitching staff. Plus, he is versatile, can go 1 inng. or start and give you 5-6.

If Waino gets blown out yet again, he really should be put in the pen. There is no excuse to keep sending him out there to get beat up. Give these starts to the younger arms to see what they offer; the season is lost, time to start preparing for 2024.

Certainly they are preparing Woodford for either spot starts or being long relief. and, your right Lee, he had been pitching well just prior to his injury and his last Memphis outing is optimistic.
Hope he gets back up soon.!

As the season is lost, they without a doubt should be giving the guys who have a chance to be around in 2024 all the starts and innings. It is very selfish to keep sending Waino out there, when there is little chance of winning.. and he will not be on the squad next year so…..be a mentor, instead of hanging on by a tiny thread.
These starts should be given to guys who are likely to step up next and have a shot on the team,
meaning; Dak, Woody, Zac, and I’d say Libby, but he just isn’t ready yet. Give him some more time to be more consistant in AAA.

Agree with Lee. Woodford needs more innings.
    VH & Str, are ?
    Andre — on the edge.
    Lib, AAA
Waino, I have no answers for this situation. maybe the pen.
problem is, that Matz actually looks better in the pen vs. starting.
Maybe factor in a bullpen start each week, similar to Sundays win.
You could have Woodford, Palante, VH, Str, go 2 ea., then close it with Gio or JH.
Still leaves Matz & Cabby. or any combination of this…!

Woodford looked pretty good, a bit rusty, needs more inngs.. got unlucky with a late swing down the 1st base line for a triple.. other than that was solid.

Libby has stints of control issues, that you can’t have at this level:
    Last 4 starts:
    —- Inngs.–R-BB
    CLE – 5—– 4-2-
    TX – 4—– 5-2-
    SF – 6 —- 2-2-
    Nym – 4 —- 5-2-
    ————————-
    19 inngs 16 runs. ERA = 7.58.!
Get him back to Memphis to work on command.!
    ———————————————
    Stratton
    Last 4 outings:
    —- Inngs. –ER
    CIN – .2—– 2
    CIN -1.1—– 0
    SF – 1 —- 1
    Nym – 1 —- 2
    ————————-
    4 inng. 5 R ERA = 11.25.
    DFA TIME.!
