$9,835,143 mil of remaining salaries, traded away.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Bill covered PDJ’s buyout amount of 2mil.

Anyone else make 5 to 7mil today? I know I’d have a grin from ear to ear if I had those $ reclaimed.

Yeah, jj, with all that extra paper to hoist atop the stack, Billy Jr. should be thankful he’ll be able to improve the liquidity of his nearly risk free holding companies.

Brad Thompson on the pregame’s really going over the top with the “Under assistant west coast promo man” routine…Haha! Don’t let him anywhere near a coffee pot…

Mo has a presser at 5:45, can somebody post a summery.

He basically said “we all know getting pitching was key and we wanted to add more swing and miss arms, but some of the guys fit the more traditional mold”

We seem to like our fellow “Bird” ball clubs to trade with.

Thought I saw something about a blockbuster deal where Ohtani was going to Toronto? Guess that was the rumor mill on overdrive though.

At least we got rid of PDJ! Thank God! Looks to me like we are in full rebuild mode! Mo doesn’t have a clue what he is doing IMO! Shooting in the dark as usual!

“A lot of balls up in the air late and there was some sweating upstairs as to if the deal was going to get done” not an exact quote but close on the Flaherty deal.

Finally getting someone to take DeJong was addition by subtraction, although I think we had to send some cash in order for the Jays to take the deal.

With us in full rebuild mode, I will still watch some, but also will be checking in the Jays and Orioles game, and the Rangers as well. Wouldn’t mind seeing two of those three in the ALCS.

Mo kept a lot of powder dry for the offseason which is fine. He dumped our expiring contracts for mostly decent prospects and the rest of what he will do will come with winter trades and signing free agents.

I don’t know if I have faith in him or not BUT – we are going to find out.

In the meantime – our line up -excess outfielders and all is intact. We will miss Donovan leading off but better to have him ready to go for 2024.

The pitching will likely be a little worse than it was with Montgomery, Flaherty, and Stratton gone but we can use the rest of the season to see who wants to step up for next year.

I think we are in for quite a few pitching stinkers the rest of the way in 2023 though….

    “Mo had a good day.”

Not today, he didn’t. Pretty bad day today. The other day, with the return for Monty, Stratton, and Hicks, THAT was a good day. But he got very little for Flaherty/DeJong, with the primary piece being yet another middle infielder, the single thing the Cards need less than anything else.

To be a successful trade deadline, to me they had to clear some of the clutter in the outfield and middle infield, while acquiring somebody with at least a 50/50 chance to be at least a #3 starter in 2024. (Dylan Cease & Grayson Rodriguez were top of my personal wish list. But then, I didn’t know Civale was available from the Tribe.) They got nothing like that. I mean, nothing remotely like that.

The five trades that Mo made are exactly what you would want IF next season were going to be a “tanking” season, and 2025 the next season for truly trying to win 90+ games. And as far as I know, that’s not the actual front office plan. But that’s the effect.

Mo will now either retain the entire unwieldy roster clutter — huge mistake — or be forced to trade over the winter, when nearly every team believes they have at least a puncher’s chance at the Wildcard. So who’s gonna trade you a good starting pitcher under those conditions? I suspect the answer is nobody, but I guess we’ll see.

Losing is losing, you can’t fall further than last place. Right now I don’t think next year is going to be much better but we will see how off season goes.

I’m just going to look at it as a pitching try out for anyone not named Mikolas or Matz.

Maybe a pitcher or two will emerge from what we have and that will give Mo some clarity on what he needs to go get over the winter.

Right now we need 3 starters and about 4-5 bullpen guys.

He’s got some excess outfielders to work with as trade bait and now a few more decent prospects to sweeten some deals with.

Then there is the FA market. Hopefully they can trade for 3-4 pitchers and sign 3-4 FA pitchers and put together a good pitching staff (with some depth) to go with what is already a pretty good lineup.

This was only the beginning. And a very good beginning. We got some very talented players for the rentals we traded. Now the challenge will be the 2024 rotation as well as some bullpen arms. 7 months to work on that.

Mo did okay during this trade deadline.Nothing flashy or spectacular just okay. Now we have 2 months of seeing if the kids can handle the big leagues.IMO the Cards will run thru the fringe BP guys and i expect lots of turnover with the Memphis shuttle

Well, we loaded up a bunch of minor leaguers and did nothing to make the St. Louis Cardinals a better baseball team.

If unburdening ourselves of two headaches and saving some money is our measure of success, then we should all be clapping Monsieur Mo on the back.

I Guess getting excited about 2024 and 2025 is a good thing for the dreamers but for those who would like to see us win a few more games this year and perhaps even climb out of the cellar, it ain’t.

We can only hope the winter will inspire a little more creativity.

Predictable. Guessing Mo will say nothing is the easiest prediction in the history of predictions.

I’m actually pleased with what “the haul” was today. A couple drafts and many international guys just haven’t panned out. At least he restocked the cupboard most likely with players better than he would’ve received just taking additional supplemental draft picks for potential free agents. It gives them room to make a better offseason deal with the outfielders and other pieces showcasing themselves (and hopefully staying healthy) the rest of the season. Hopefully, the motions for an offseason deal are already in the process with the trade deadline talks.

What happens this winter besides 26 man roster changes will tell us if Mo and BDW remain delusional about their philosophy and operational system working. Feeding new guys into a failed system might produce a blip, but nothing more. A real coaching staff and some real baseball guys in the FO and around the system in key roles is what it will take for sustained success.

I sort of agree with this. They have done a decent, if not great, job of bringing guys along. If there is something to work with in this bunch of prospects they just acquired, we could have something in a couple or three years.
The only problem is that Goldy and Arenado will be gone by then, most likely.

1tough – My personal opinion means nothing. I just look at their stats and where they slot now in our Top 30 prospect list. Pretty impressive.

BL – There’s more to do in the off season to prepare for 2024. They aren’t through by any means.
