You’re wrong. That’s fine. You’ve called me out for things too and I’ve been wrong.
Hell we’ve all had venting moments I’m good with that (and good with you regardless). But don’t come after me because you had a moment and I called you on it — I sure as heck could have done the same thing before and mostly haven’t.

It’s legit is the point. He would come down a bit eventually regardless of level. But at that level and that age in that park? He can hit. Period. He is a legit prospect.
The reason i said he might jump quickly-ish to Springfield is several layers deep but basically… Springfield is a hitter park and the jump from a ball to aa isn’t much bigger than high a to aa especially given the relative park strength.
I’m not saying immediately… I’m saying he might move up to high a relatively soon to finish the first half then aa for the second half. Or high a for the first part of the second half then aa for the playoff run.
Some time, but not overwhelming.
If he is hitting like this, the cards have a history of challenging minor leaguers. I don’t see why he would be any different.
Yepez is still only 20 in full season ball. That type of hitting at his age is still extremely solid.
Don’t be surprised if they jump him to aa relatively quickly at some point so palm beach and the fsl doesn’t beat him down.
While I completely disagree with the 25.6 million number value on wacha (it is probably closer to 10 or so due to the exponential nature of WAR value) I fully agree he is anything but worthless.
He is solid and above average. Nothing wrong with that and people who take the “worthless” stance are the same ones who demand superstars at every position.
They are fools and destructive personalities and that’s on a good day.
Apparently someone with brains in the organization finally realized how easy it is to call up guys to pitch for a few days here and there when your aaa team is loaded.

Yeah that would make me blink… It really would. Even though I’ve been adamantly against trading Kelly.
I wouldn’t mind dealing Flaherty for the right guy but i would be beyond shocked if we dealt with the reds. Too much risk of seeing him own us for a decade.
We simply have too many young arms. Yes, wainright is gone probably next year if not sooner… but that aaa team has more arms that can fill in next year if we get the right long term piece (read: top 25 prospect or so) in return.
What’s that mean? I personally would deal with the reds because I think they will suck regardless and a cornerstone 3b is worth more to us than yet another stud pitcher.
I don’t think our ownership has that mindset.
It is most definitely not panic to see a bad year last year plus a bad start and start a conversation. Period.
At this point you gotta let him play though. We need him. Give him his chances and supplement other players to give him breathing room

But in theory a hot college pitcher could beat a mlb team. And college teams beat pro teams in spring training or exhibition occasionally. The differences in skill is shown over a series (generally)
Would they win a 7 game series? Eh… maybe. They’re pretty good for a aaa team. And the reds are pretty bad right now. Confidence means a lot and winning can make more winning happen despite odds (see: ncaa basketball tournament).
It would be an interesting exercise at any rate.
Greene has the upside to make that trade look absurdly good in our direction. He’s very similar to alcantara… high gas and inconsistent. If he can even control it for an inning at a time he can close for a long while.
That’s why I’m generally positive on the “dump” trades they’ve had over the last couple years (yepez, Greene, etc.). Not sure if O’Neill counts as that was more of a straight trade. They grabbed upside in all of them though. If one of them works out majorly we win IMO. One. That’s pretty solid given that odds are more than one will work out to some extent.
Pads… all you’re saying is matheny doesn’t use his whole roster and that is a SEVERE managerial weakness.

Dejong seems to be more like vlad guerrero than diaz — when he makes contact it goes a long ways.
That changes the dynamic. A lot.
The money here was imo never an issue… it was the timing and consequences. He will have long stupid dry spells and hot streaks where he puts us in the playoffs. Just who he is.

We would lose some games early in the year due to be some guys failing but you found out what you had and moved forward. Or the kids learned and got better.

Imo mayers is and always was trade bait. It isn’t that he’s a bad pitcher. I think he will be fine in a bullpen role.
It is that we have so many guys who will do perfectly well in a bullpen role at aaa and just signed a bunch more.

Yes, I think yadi would sit if Kelly would get a chance.
Why? Because Kelly is/will br the better player soon if not already.
It’ll be something like 50/50 split in time (you know… like it should be right now) but yes…
The org sometimes makes it hard to get these young players started. But if they show they can play they generally don’t stop them.
Matheny is a whole other issue… and I don’t think he will be here past this year anyway.
Preface this by saying I DO NOT wish injury on anybody, especially someone like yadi
…but the best thing for the cardinal franchise would probably be if he got injured before the trading deadline this year.
Kelly wouldn’t give him the job back.
If that doesn’t happen, Kelly seems likely be dealt at the deadline for a major piece…. and we would regret it for a long ass time.
