The gonzales trade makes me wonder how much value tyler lyons has to a team with troubles in the 6th and 7th innings and who also maybe needs a swing starter.
If I had to guess… Teams are enquiring at the least after yesterday. Cost control for another year and he has been fairly consistently decent.
I dont know if it is quite that clear cut. It has the potential to be but given that outfielders are significantly easier to find than lefty pitchers…
Marco has less team control and maybe a lower ceiling… Maybe… But in safeco… And he can definitely pitch for them in their wild card race RIGHT NOW…
It isnt quite as clear cut when you realize that.
We basically traded production two years from now for production today. O’Neill has enough talent we will probably be alright but stuff happens.
O’Neill ops by month in aaa (he turned 22 in june)

A 21/22 year old at aaa is more than depth… .800 ops despite major major struggles to start the year…
Dont get me wrong he isnt stanton… But he’s got legit power from the right side and was top 50 before the season for a reason.
The reason I said I dont think we are done is because I just don’t see us leaving that kind of backlog of outfielders until the offseason.
The more I read the more I agree with this.
He needs some development yet but he probably slots in behind reyes and kelly prospect wise… Which is impressive.

Talent for talent probably fair trade when including control. The guy is a solid prospect. And Marco should start in safeco and do fine. I don’t see how we hold onto all of our outfielders at the deadline at this point though.

JUST turned 22 year old with some power at aaa… right handed power.
Still think this isnt the end of it but you give up a guy with an injury history for a position player with some power.
I dont think either team did badly here but marco was a little older with less team control. Marco should do well in safeco.
To be fair there is a valid point in saying that pulling up weaver reyes and a couple other guys for the bullpen next year should improve it quite a bit.

However your point that the offense needs some thunder and a general remake is also valid.

I dont see the point in this. Yeah we’ve got injuries but what’s the worst that happens at this point? We play worse?
That trend will continue for a while but there will always be a need for good writers.
People don’t like robot voices. It may happen that someday ai will be able to imitate human writing to that point but it sure isn’t here yet… And reading isn’t declining really. Just changing formats.
He will opt out after three years.
This end result just depends on a lot of things. Has every potential to be a positive if it happens. Ancillary deals will count if we do make a splash. Cant judge this in a vacuum.

Trust me it ain’t… We would be major underdogs every round. Maybe 9 to 1 odds (10% shot).

I could be convinced is probably the best way to put it.
WAR is so much more valuable (exponentially so) at high numbers that your points are 10000% valid. One 6 WAR year might hit 100 million in relative value (not sure but it is relatively close).

One is 1st. The other is in the 50s.

I agree and I dont see why we should have to do so.
The one exception as I mentioned is if we are offered a mint. High end talent is so hard to come by that if we are offered 2 or 3 of those players to go along with our already loaded minors we should at least listen.
Think about it another way. The yankees were the #1 system with 7 top 100 players and turned things around after selling last year.
Next year we have NINE guys with possible top 100 aspirations and probably 3-4 more with top 150.
Add in some top 50 talent and sign players after our new media deal in 2018 with the great free agent class… Two years we are looking stupidly good.

He should be one of the top 5 prospects in baseball at this point. And he should stay at catcher as much as possible. Dont mind left or first on days yadi is catching but still.

Moncada… maybe… Theyve got a 30 point or so difference in ops and he plays 2nd which is a much easier position. Not sure what the averages all are.

I thought about this a bit while saying that we could deal ten or so players and not bat an eye due to depth.
This one WOULD hurt us for two or three years. And it is difficult to give that up.
Now… If the yankees went and offered us torres frazier rutherford and mateo for martinez and carpenter?
Ears and eyes would open pretty quick.
I guess what im saying is I cant justify it unless we get a mint.
For all we know it is gyorko and spare parts for donaldson which would at least try to nix any argument I have about roster clutter.
Patience as always… Like others implied in another thread they could still deal oh and lynn etc afterwards. I just dont want to see a matt adams happen. Beyond that willing to see what happens.

Kelly is a top 5 prospect if you look at things a bit.
Name another position player with an ops roughly 150 points above league average at his position who plays above average defense in aaa at 22 or younger.
You might find one. Moncada? Maybe? Same rough ops at easier position.
Think of it a different way.
Seven top 100 guys is probably easily a top 3 system. And perez and hudson might have an argument too.
