Flaherty’s deal makes me feel better about what we’re paying Mikolas this year. Paying Flaherty that kind of money makes it clear that the inmates are still running the asylum.

Edmonds should be in the HOF.

Love that optimism. Only wish I could connect with it. I’m more looking forward to seeing what Donovan can do at 3B. Walker does look like a linebacker going into 2025. But will he be able to hit the baseball? As far as outfielders are concerned, I’m looking forward to seeing if the constant offensive improvement by Siani in 2024 can continue throughout 2025. All those strikeouts make me want to leave my seat when Gorman steps up to the plate. I’m interested in seeing what Saggese can do at 2B. That said, Gorman and Walker are still very young, and that plus their natural talent, give reason for hope. And there’s still a reasonable chance that somebody makes a sensible offer for Arenado. If he gets in the right frame of mind, he could add some wins for a team.

I hope this problem with Arenado doesn’t turn into a season long side show. It’s hard to understand how a guy guaranteed to get $74M for playing baseball feels like he can’t be happy playing for a team like the
Astros. This guy is a head case if there ever was one. And it’s remarkable that he could think that the fans are stupid enough to believe that the reason why he stopped hitting the way he used to is because ‘the pitchers got better’.

The above video shows what the compiler believes to be the best 2024 outfield assists. Interestingly, 4 of the 5 are Burelson…….

One picture is worth a thousand words, or so they say.

I think Koperniak’s spring will determine if he goes north with the team.

The entire landscape of MLB has changed and is continuing to change. The old ways aren’t working anymore. A handful of greedy Owners made Boras what he is today.

Love this thread. Agree Walker looks like a linebacker. Mikolas might act serious this year. Raniel Rodriguez is a RH batter. Maybe they’ll give him some innings at 1B. Alex Willis in camp is interesting. Hope springs eternal, as they say. I haven’t felt this good in months. Thanks, Brian.

I still haven’t gotten over the idea that if a pitcher throws 5 innings, he feel like he did his job, and if he throws 6 innings, he thinks he’s thrown a complete game, and if he has to throw seven or more innings, he worries that he might get injured and might not be able to get all the money he is entitled to.

IMO, if a pitcher only pitches every 6 days, he’s not really a starter, rather he’s the kind of pitcher that Jnevel describes above.

My guess is that GameCrd is scarred for life because of the Tommy Edman signing.

Can anybody imagine giving Andrew Kittredge $10M to play baseball as a middle reliever? I can’t.

And stuck on a team that doesn’t like him and doesn’t want him.

Arenado has definitely diminished his HOF chances with his actions.

Lonnie Smith. Sounds unbelievable. But he kept breaking his shoe string when trying to stop to catch the ball causing him to fall down like had lost one of his skates.

Lets hope the Cardinals aren’t one of the nine worst teams in MLB next year. Their lottery chance of hitting it big for a second year in a row is so minuscule that it doesn’t even merit discussion.

Thank goodness WDWJr. had the self control not to extend Pujols for the kind of money he wanted. Pujols had some good years playing for the Angels, but overall he was not worth his contract.

I still think they should extend Helsley instead of trading him. If the Cardinals offer his 3yrs/$21M he’d almost have to take it. $21M would set him up for life, and he could still grab millions more in 3 years.

I don’t understand why a lot of posters think Gorman can take over at 3B. I know he played 3B coming up, but his defense at 2B is unreliable. I’m thinking Donovan will be a much better fielding third baseman, and he might keep getting better as a hitter, too. If Gorman can get over all the strikeouts, then let him play 1B.

I think Arenado should keep in mind that the Cardinals organization does not have to trade him.

Brian’s and Blake’s analyses of Showalter, Bedell, Graceffo, Lin, and Robbberse are also encouraging for the most part. I agree that it’s too early to give up on Rajcic based on his 2023 success. But he need’s to regain that success in 2025, or he’s going to be on is way to becoming an afterthought. One or more of the lower ranked pitchers is going to start to shine next season, but who will that be?

Hence was only 17 years old when drafted in 2020. He’s now 22 years old and won’t turn 23 until next August. He’s gained at least 20 lbs. since drafted. I have no facts because the Cardinals don’t reveal anything specific about a prospect’s health. But I’m going to guess that a good part of Hence’s time on the IL was a result of the Cardinals’ staff babying him while they waited for him to grow up physically.

Blake and Brian have some impressive analyses concerning Mathhews, Hence, Roby, and Hjerpe. But how many of them can outgrow the injury threat.

I’m also interested to see if Pallante got better over the offseason, and Fedde is a better pitcher than what we have seen so far. I’m also interested to see if Matz pitches a lot better now that he is in his walk year. Things just seem to work out that way sometimes.

If Arenado and Godlschmidt were both hitting like they should have been hitting, the Cardinals would have won the weak NL Central Division in 2024. And I’m not blaming Arenado and Goldschmidt alone, the Cardinals front office knew what they were getting. They just didn’t anticipate that both players would stop producing the way they did. The Cardinals and their fan base did not get burned that bad. Some of these other big spending teams are going to get scorched before this is all over. The times have changed.

I’m not giving up on Alec Willis unless he gets released. But sorry to say, the last time he did anything worth mentioning was when he got drafted in 2021. He was thought to be committed to college and didn’t get drafted until the 7th round. The Cardinals offered him a million dollars, $800,000 over his slot, and he took it. Fortunately for him, he collected his signing bonus while he still had a chance. As a result he got to start out in life as a teenage millionaire. Unfortunately for everyone else involved, including Cardinals fans, a million dollars just got pissed away.

If the Cardinals can figure out how to field a winning team, or at the very least, a team that’s fun to watch, fans will come back in droves.

Maybe they think Crooks is their catcher of the future and they want to make sure they have room for him to play in St. Louis at some point in 2025. BTW, Springfield has Crooks, Bernal, and Sammy Hernandez all listed on their roster, with Crooks being the oldest of the three. They also list Bryan Torres, who actually could be the closest to reaching the majors, and they have Carlos Linares who hasn’t been able to hit.
