Gee, I guess I will have to read the story to learn if the Cardinals are vulnerable coming into Pittsburgh…

This series could tell us a lot about our clubhouse.

    Win the series? Ok.

Lose the series? May indicate a lack of leadership.

Arenado does not seem to be an emotional, vocal leader – I guess that role would belong to Contreras and maybe Nootbar?

The role of an emotional and vocal leader belongs to a rare and special sort of baseball player…We need a player named Manny!

We’ll just have to adjust our mindsets to a cool “I don’t care who wins,” and enjoy each play on the field, applauding excellence whenever it appears and not let losses disturb our serenity.

    Yeah, right!

I’ve got a good one for you Dom, ZTR, et al…what Cardinal great in the live ball era hit for the most career cycles? I didn’t know the answer before I looked it up but my wild guess was (amazingly) correct “😮”

That’s one approach, CIF. Another is to keep in mind that there’s baseball in places other than StL. Some of the best and most enjoyable baseball I’ve had the pleasure of watching was during eras in which my favorite team was struggling. The multiple NY/KC ALCS’s and NY/LA WS’s of the 70’s immediately come to mind. That was some outstanding Big League baseball that I’ll never forget and that I’m thankful to have been a part of as a baseball fan. What I’m driving at, is that Willie Jr. and his cohorts Johnny and Co. by no means have a monopoly on my favorite game. I was following and enjoying Big League baseball long before either one of those two upstarts emerged onto the scene in Stl. If they see fit to tank my favorite team, there’s always other baseball available.

Obviously the correct answer isn’t Musial, because he would be the first name to come to mind. So, my wild guess would be Frisch?

Edit; I live for this kind of stuff, Carter…Haha!

    Oh holy geez,
that is one horrible lineup. Batting order I mean.

Why doesn’t somebody do something about this nonsense??????

Haha!…I just looked it up and Frankie Frisch never hit for a solitary cycle in his 19 year career! That’s surprising. The guy had over 2800 hits. Boy, I really get the golden sombrero for that lousy guess…Haha!

Your thinking of my thinking was right on, Dom,but it wasn’t Frankie. FYI the list of HEAVY hitters that never even hit 1 is surprizing to say the least!

I love this lineup, Rats! Especially, Johel Bozo…That guy sounds like he can really rip it!

Yeah, Carter, obviously the cycle’s not an everyday occurance and is no easy task. In fact, there have been more no hitters than occurences of hitters that have hit for the cycle.

Hornsby would be another name that would come to mind, but he also seems too obvious, so my second wild guess would be the Ol’ Redhead?

When you think of speed and power Mays Mantle and Hornsby come to mind…none did it! (Rogers did not come to my mind or I would have guess him.

I forget what Cub player said this, but after he retired he ran a 60 yard dash with the team and WON…I forget the reason given why he did not steal bases when he played.

I couldn’t stand the suspense any longer, so I looked up the answer. He certainly wouldn’t have been the first name that would have entered my mind, but I’m surpised one of the ace experts on here hasn’t as yet named the correct answer.

While on the subject; I would have bet my house that Grudzelanic hit for a natural cycle, but google says it was Mabry! WTF am I thinking? Am I getting senile???

I should have mentioned Ruth along with Mantle Mays and the Rajah as he stole more bases than 2 of them…he had around 120 or so and actually stole home 10 times!

Kinda explains why he gifted the Cards a WS win trying to steal 2nd after he got too heavy after he became a rich glutten

In his prime that man was the greatest baseball player EVER, Otani? Not even close as a hitter or pitcher.

I recall watching the game in which Grudzielanec achieved the feat in ’05. And although I didn’t see the game, I remember reading about Mabry the next day in the paper in ’96. My most vivid memory of a Redbird player hitting for the cycle remains the game in which Willie McGee collected all four hits to achieve the feat during the classic “Sandberg Game” which was the NBC Game of the Week from Wrigley Field in ’84. I recall watching that entire game like it was yesterday, but I can’t find my truck keys…Haha!

Oh I see…John was the most RECENT Card to do it. I have no memory of that as he must have done it in my drunken period

Arenado hit for the cycle in ’22, but it wasn’t a natural cycle.

I’m surprised no one has given the correct answer. I guess no one needs an oven mitt…

Liberatore worked 6 full innings in his only other turn this season. What’s the O/U on his IP’ed in this evening’s game?
