Our old pal Zac Gallen didn’t look good the other night vs the cubbies. Fours were wild for him and not in a good way. Zac went 4 innings, giving up 4 runs, all 4 earned runs, 4 hits, 4 walks and 4 K’s.

Connor Thomas was a part of the torpedo bat fiasco. MLB debut resulted in 8 runs, 6 hits and 3 homers surrendered for the brew crew.

I’m surprised Lynn couldn’t catch on somewhere in the pen, although maybe he did have offers and didn’t think it was worth it.

Kudos to Lynn though on a great career. Never a star, but he was a very valuable #3 for a while. 33.0 fWAR and 32.6 bWAR which is quite a career. I imagine he will be strongly considered for a Cardinals red jacket, but I think he may fall just short of getting it.

Lynn said the money wasn’t right. So he hung it up.

Congrats to Kelly on his feat.

I always liked LL. Didn’t seem to take himself too seriously. Yet he was intense about the game.

Me too KCB, and he had pretty nice 13 season career in which he worked a shade over 2000 IP’ed. LL knew how to work through a game and leave his team in a position to win as is readily witnessed by the fact that he suffered only one season in which his W/L record was sub .500 and his overall W/L pct. for his career was a real nice looking .591. Not at all too shabby for a guy who looks like he eats donuts like’s he mad at them and washes them down with cold mugs of beer…Haha! It was always fun for me to watch the Bavarian Bismark Beast take his turn in the rotation.

And not that it means anything, but I just now noticed that Lance Lynn’s career ERA of 3.74 in 2006.1 IP’ed is a shade better than the career 3.76 ERA in 2219.1 innings of work of another former Cardinal pitcher who’s name happens to be Chris Carpenter…Lynn was no slouch.

While Lynn was no slouch, the ERA for Carpenter was pretty influenced by his rough (by comparison) years in Toronto early in his career. For a stretch, he was a true ace and one of the best to take the ball in the postseason. I don’t think Lynn qualifies for either of those titles. Both were pretty good for their careers, but give me Carpenter every day over Lynn.

That said, Lynn did good work here and I hope he enjoys his retirement.

Yeah, the career ERA doesn’t mean anything other than what it means, which is career ERA. Chris Carpenter was in a special brand of competitor category while he wore a Redbird uniform. Despite Carpenter’s arm troubles and his rough stretch in Toronto I was really surpised that Lynn was that close in career ERA. And Lynn gets a lot of extra credit for placing that career ERA into the books despite all those donuts and beer while he was compiling a little over 2000 IP’ed…Haha!

Man, that’s awful about Dotel and all those other poor people who died in that horrible tragedy.

What in the world is going on with Carson Kelly? Check out his stat line thus far with the Cubs. It reminds me of what Cesar Cedeno did for us in September of ’85.

I’m going to guess that he just finally found his mojo. It’s nice to know that steroids have nothing to do with his resurgence since MLB completely banned steroids and has taken all the necessary steps to insure that players who still use them, like Jurickson Profar and Fernando Tatis, always get caught.

Regarding Goldschmidt, I’m guessing that he just went back to whatever he was doing that brought him his MVP season in 2022 at age 34.
He certainly has the motivation to work extra hard since this is his last chance to get a ring.

It helps each of them to play primarily in their new home stadium.

Speaking of which, it’s really impressive what Cincinnati’s starters are doing.

Seems like former Cardinals always do well as Yankees. And of late, former Cardinals find life as Cubs. Maybe that one is cosmic payback for Ernie Broglio’s flop after being sent up I55.
