I agree on being puzzled about Motter. Sure the pitcher is a lefty, but as a manager I would want to show confidence that the lefty is going to be out of there by the middle innings. Keep Gorman in there the way he is crushing it.

Toss him in the bag of misfit toys to trade to Pitt for Reynolds. Some combo of Carlson, Yepez, Hicks, Dakota Hudson, Luken or Trent Baker, and the OF Gomez ought to be able to tempt them. Oviedo did fairly well after the deal last year so we should be on good terms. Clear out some roster space and upgrade.
I don’t see why the Cards and Pirates haven’t lined up on a deal already. Carlson, Hudson, Yepez seems like the meat of a fair offer. Maybe add in Trent Baker or someone in the 10-20 prospect range .
Matz wins 20. Flaherty makes fewer than 10 starts for Cardinals. Stratton DFA’d by end of May. Carlson dealt to Pirates with Yepez (and more)for Reynolds in June. Helsley tries to do too many back to backs (1) and goes down for surgery May 15 (but surgery postponed until beginning of next season due to plasma rich injections and 2nd 3rd and 8th opinions). Pallante steps in to closer role in fine fashion to get us confident before his inevitable injury next year.
So Walker starts season on roster. Let’s say he struggles for 2 weeks and is sent down. Tears it up while down there for 3 weeks (long enough to delay his clock), then comes back up and wins ROY. Do we get the pick and the year? Sounds like ideal situation.
So how do I watch while they are free? I tried mlb channel hoping that the games affected would say free game of the day or something but they all say I need subscription to watch.
Another part of that deal was moving on from Jose Martinez. He had some big hits while he was here but I think we could all see that the shine had just about worn off. Being able to offload him and avoid overpaying him for years to come while getting back a well regarded prospect was a good way to get rid of a guy who was terrible defensively while seemingly not upsetting the team chemistry. Then after not doing too well with the Rays, he really bottomed out with the Cubs.
I’ve only been to a few Cardinals games but one was started by Aybar. This was Aug 15th, 1997. Aybar faced off against Tom Glavine in his prime so it didn’t look good for the home team. Aybar kept the Cards in it by only allowing 2 runs in 6 innings, pitching in and out of trouble with 4BB vs only 2 k’s. Glavine was spectacular for the Braves. He pitched 8 shutout innings but mixed in was 4 walks to Big Mac, as he clearly didn’t want any part of that matchup, much to the ire of the crowd. Glavine went out for the 9th, Lankford led off with a base hit, and McGwire strode to the plate. Everyone expected the free pass again and began booing angrily. Glavine chose to pitch to him, though, and McGwire tied it up with a big fly, 2-2. Delino Deshields walked it off in extra innings with a walk off dong. Unbelievable game.
So no surprise injuries so far this year? I really hate when a pitcher reports and it turns out he needs surgery that he should have got in October.
Manny Lee, who is best remembered for his time on the Blue Jays in late 80’s, suited up for the Cardinals in 1995.

Steve60, I agree on the Edmonds take. I think he deserved a better result. I ultimately don’t feel he should be in but his case has merit. I feel his perceived cavalier attitude turned off a lot of folks.
Rolen elected!! The comments on Mlbtr are comically predictable with the most inane I’ve seen saying that if 2000 hits and 300 HR is enough then Nelson Cruz gets in. You know, because defense doesn’t count I guess
Evan Sisk, minor leaguer traded to Twins in JA Happ deal, is on his way to Royals along with another talented reliever with control problems in exchange for Michael A Taylor. Royals didn’t seem to get much but salary relief in this deal to me. Maybe they will quit pretending to be too poor to offer Greinke an incentive laden deal despite giving one to Aroldis when they won’t have hardly any leads to protect
I can assume the other candidate is our own Puggs. That could explain why he hasn’t been posting of late. Too busy charming the top brass to associate with us plebes
Had my black-eyed peas, collard greens and cornbread for lunch. Put some pork salt on the griddle and drizzled the fat run-off into the greens and then crisped up the pork and diced it into the peas. As I understand it, the peas garner you coins, the greens give ya greenbacks, and the cornbread is to deliver you some gold. Not too sure about that and my stomach kind of sounds like a can rattling around but it was pretty tasty
I see in Mlbtraderumors that Luetge (spelling?) of the Yanks was traded. I really liked him. It looks like the Yanks just didn’t feel his stuff was good enough but I liked his results. Sure would have liked a steady sub 3 era guy in the pen from the left side even if he doesn’t throw 100. I’d have done Luetge for Hicks if the Yanks included a lottery ticket or took on VerHagen. Hicks is tantalizing but he doesn’t seem he will ever evolve from thrower to pitcher and it would be great to clear out 2 spots that constantly caused trouble for a guy who quietly got guys out with average stuff.
I’ll be the first to say I was disappointed by Matz first year due to injury and am concerned that the “impingement” could cause him to have future injury due to adjustments. But…he had injury issues early in his career that had folks just about write him off but had good seasons with very little injury in the 4 years before the signing. I pretty much expected him to miss one of the 4 years he was signed for as that is almost expected anymore. Just hoping this first year is the only year. Being a mid market team, we need to hit big on signings like this and I am still confident he will perform positively over the final 3 years and 39ish left on his deal. However, with the way salaries are going up, I still feel the rest of his contract can be an asset
