because he would probably be out of the lineup on Tuesday with the #Braves throwing a lefty.

Which makes no sense because Noot had a pronounced reverse split last year: vs LHP .273/.400/.455/.855

The offense looks great but the 2004 team lost the world series. The pitching needs to improve. Stating the obvious 3.1 innings, 5 innings, 5 innings is not going to get it done going forward.

Nootbaar jammed a finger in the first game.

Good grief Dom! I remember that series well…if memory serves, the final game fell on a Sunday and
Forsh pitched a gem. That’s ALL I can remember (and THAT may be wrong!)

Haha!…I honestly didn’t think they were too tough. I’ll give some hints, mudville…

    1. Think lunatic with one guy and Ueker chasing the baseball to the backstop for the other…

    2. Think triples…

    3. Think old school IF shift with one guy and the obverse of a Bill Buckner oven mitt with the other player…

The crowd from back in the cave man days should be able to ace all three of these…Haha!

No LeGrand, Forsche worked a 7-0, 3 hit, CG shutout gem, but it was in the official 1st game and not the rainout after 4 and 1/2 on the day prior…

!td – The questions were just too compelling for me not to
look for the answers. I couldn’t stop myself.
Hopefully, I didn’t ruin it for a truly deserving
    poster.

    1. Bob Forsch Pitched 9 shutout innings.
Pascual Perez started for the Braves. Here’s something
    from Wikipedia on Perez:
Slender at 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 m), 162 pounds (73 kg), he received extensive press coverage for both on-field and off-field controversies. He was arrested for cocaine possession in his native Dominican Republic in January 1984 and spent three months in prison although his ultimate sentence was only a fine of $1,000.[1] He did not rejoin the Braves until May 1984. He often drew the ire of his opponents, using an imaginary finger gun to shoot opponents and would pound the baseball into the ground. While it is customary for pitchers to walk back to the bench after completing an inning, he would run full speed to the dugout (gold chains and long, curly locks bouncing) after an inning-ending strikeout. He eventually added the “Pascual pitch” (his version of the “eephus”) to his repertoire.[2] He was also involved in more than one beanball incident, most notably an August 12, 1984 brawl with the San Diego Padres where he hit the Padres’ Alan Wiggins with his first pitch leading off the game, inciting each San Diego pitcher in the game to throw at him each time he came to bat. He had just received his driver’s license and earned the nicknames “Perimeter Pascual” and “Wrong-Way Perez” after missing a start on August 19, 1982, while circling Atlanta’s Interstate 285 (a beltway) three times looking for Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium, he ran out of gas and arrived at the ballpark 10 minutes late.[3]

    2. Only player to hit a HR: Willie McGee

    3. Players with 5 hits: Darrel Porter, Ozzie Smith

You aced the 2nd and 3rd questions, mudville, but I have to charge an E on the answer to the 1st question, which was, who were the 2 SP’ers for the 1st “unofficial” Game #1?

You aced the 1st question, Euro. Phil Niekro and Joaquin Andujar were the starting pitchers of the “unofficial” Game #1 which was cancelled after 4 and 1/2 innings with Niekro and the Braves holding a 1-0 lead. I was wet at that game and also attended the official Game #1 of that NLCS on a raincheck stub. Mudville aced the 2nd question with McGee. The “think triples” hint was in reference to the “ET made it home, and Willie McGee only made it to 3rd” joke. I was in attendance when Willie collected that triple. He hustled into 3rd base with a headlong dive as the baseball wasn’t yet anywhere near being relayed to the cut-off man. The entire capacity crowd including the 3rd base coach was screaming for McGee to continue around 3rd base and to HP to score. He would have easily scored an insider had he not only been disoriented by the head first slide into 3rd base, but also, as a result of the noise of the crowd drowning out the 3rd base coach yelling at him to get up and head home…Haha! At any rate, he eventually scored from 3B, but the joke was, “What’s the difference between Willie McGee and ET?” Answer…”ET made it home and Willie McGee only made it to 3rd base”…

The Ozzie Smith hint was obviously in reference to the polar opposite of the Bill Buckner edition oven mitt adorned with the butterfly and daisy pattern…The Darrell Porter “Think IF shift” hint may have been a bit obscure, but opposing teams almost always deployed the IF shift on Porter and more than often did they do the same whenever Jack Clark was standing in the box. The IF shift is not at all something new or novel.

Mudville…Perez and Andujar were both alike in the context of riling up the opposition, however Joaquin was by far the more talented SP’er.

Mudville…I remember the story about Perez getting lost on the way to Fulton Co. Stadium. He was a genuine lunatic. Just like Andujar…Haha!

Does anyone think that the reason Woodruff gets the baseball for tonight’s game ahead of Matz may be for the reason so as not to line up the cycle for the 5 man with back to back lefties?

I’m just imagining that model being instructed to don that outfit and wondering who the hell thought THAT was sexy. (And it clearly is) She probably had to wear an 70’s Tampa Bay Bucs uniform, a Green Bay cheese hat, and do a bit with Spuds McKenzie after that shoot
