Mo on free agent market:

I guess he just recently read his job description.
Translation for Mo: “We will be in the hunt for Harper and Machado just enough to peak everyone’s interest and to say we tried but in the end will settle for Plan B or Plan C.”
But actually I think Plan B or Plan C can still help us if they are the right players.
If you don’t like Molina not running out ground balls you will hate watching Machado. At least Yadi has the excuse of saving his legs for catching. Machado is just plain lazy and doesn’t even try to explain it. There was a good article on this at mlb.com earlier this week. Combine that with his insistence of playing shortstop when his defence is among the worst at that position and he strikes me very much a me-first type player. I’d rather take the risk on Donaldson and keep Dejong at SS where he is above league average than plug Machado at SS and make deminish Dejong’s value by putting him at 3rd. I don’t want 2 guys on the team who won’t run out grounders or it may become 3 or 4 in a hurry. Bader is a shining example of always putting pressure on the defence by always running hard. He beat out a few routine grounders and forced some hurried throws as well.
I agree Perkins. Machado is not doing himself any favors with his post season performance. I give him credit for honesty but to actually publicly state that you don’t like to hustle must give a few GM’s some pause about forking over $350M.
Wow, just saw replay of Machado with a very dirty play at first base from last night. Ran to first inside the line all the way down and kicked/spiked Aguiar as he passed. Benches emptied. Replay and story with Yelich and Shaw comments on espn.com right now. I want nothing to do with this punk.

Dexter Fowler has not yet been cleared for baseball activities as he recovers from a fractured foot, but Mozeliak stressed that he too “has to have a very good offseason (and) show he’s ready to commit and get back to where he once was.”
Translation…. Fowler has to work hard or Mozeliak will pay the price in the media for signing the often less than motivated ex-Cub superstar. Last in first out does little to show ambition.
As far as fans upset over three Octobers with an empty Busch, Mozeliak says he and staff are devoted to improvement, but also admits the club could have pulled a quicker trigger on particular choices they’ve made.
Many followers here have been saying this all along… myself included big-time. This is the biggest understatement in Cardinal-land in the last two seasons.

Just think how Shildt could mold him though, MrPerkins. Two months with St. Louis and Machado would be opening doors for the ladies, calling his elders “Maam” and “sir” and running out every ground ball like it was his last ML at bat.

Some have speculated Mozeliak as a possibility for the Mets open GM job. I’m sure that would please many around here.
While I’m not certain the Cards are going to make a gigantic splash (we’ve all fallen for this one before), there’s no doubt that there are many, many moves out there that could possibly improve the club. Free agency and trades should make for a very hot stove around the game this year, as many teams have positioned themselves for just such a frenzy.
Hopefully Mo and Girsch are there to make some good deals and push the Cards over the 90 win threshold and into contention for a pennant next year.
I think these guys will likely be gone via trades before Spring training.
1.Jed Gyorko-decent 3B with reasonable salary are needed by Baltimore,TB,White SOx,Pittsbiurggh (a RH option with Moran at 3B),SD possible reunion),Minnesota ( alternative to Sano),Boston if Nunez opts out),Mets,Miami.2.Mike Mayers RHP-hard thrower who is a cheap option for any team wanting middle BP guys.
3.Greg Garcia INF-His main value was semi-versatility and LH pinch-hitter.He was very bad PH this season 6-48 PH and his versatility can be replaced by Munoz/Sosa.
4.Francisco Pena C-I think he gets Dropped 0ff 40-man.His role goes to Carson Kelly.
5.Derian Gonzalez RP- I think he gets dropped or traded because he has not been effective above AA and Cards take chance he gets thru waivers.
6.Brett Cecil LHP- I think he gets traded for whatever Cards can get.Low level prospects whatever?.I think he`s gone.
7.Luke Gregerson RP-not sure about releasing a guy who missed most of season.Union rules? Contract issues?Cards just might eat his contract and/or offer him a chance as a NRI in Spring training .
8.Matt Bowman RHP-possible drop with a NRI to Spring training.

1 Gyorko won’t be moved unless we get a solid upgrade at 3B.
2 Mayers doesn’t have much value. The organization screwed him up and he needs a breathe of fresh air.
3 GGarcia probably will be gone but I don’t know how. Little value on the trade market.
4 Pena will be back because Yadi said so. I think Kelly will be dealt despite the fact that because the FO bows to Molina leaving no room anywhere for him, and the FO appears to like Knizner plenty. FO didn’t give Kelly a fair shot even though he was a premier prospect… but not anymore. The boys upstairs F’ed up the catching depth royally.

6 Cecil will be gone because the FO has a bad taste in their mouths due to their poor evaluation of him.
7 Gregerson most likely will be given a chance, if for no other reason than to maybe prove the FO made a good signing instead of another blunder. If he doesn’t show much early on… he’ll be gone, and become another black eye that Mozeliak and crew won’t want around.
8 Bowman won’t have any seat in the crowded bullpen… especially with the Cards looking to upgrade there. Maybe some value.Rule 5 protection…. all five I agree with.
There’s that 4th outfielder spot that needs to be settled. It seems that the FO wants to continue giving Fowler every accommodation because so far he’s the biggest signing mistake ever. Puppet Shildt will be putting his job on the line by catering to Mr. I don’t really care. Dexter was supposed to be a team leader, that’s a laugh. Plus our present manager will have to share his title with Molina, and Yadi might have the upper hand. Schlitz should never have been given a contract (see crunch time flop) and not strong enough to be his own man. I’ll be Clapping when he leaves.
1) gyorko may stay and g. garcia could be gone, even w/a 3B upgrade or 1B impact bat that moves carp to 3B. I’d welcome the depth of gyorko as a utility infielder (over garcia).
4) i vote realmuto as the backup catcher / starting 1Bman. Though i wouldn’t be upset w/a goldscmidt trade ?
