Just tuned in, down 8-2. I’m not sure waino is getting the two more wins unless like someone said he goes to bullpen. I’m still not sure why he didn’t retire last year with Albert and Molina but this season has hurt hi case for hall of Fame if he had one. He’s one of my all time fave Cardinals but just a bad decision to come back for him and the team as well. They would have maybe got someone else but you never know.
Might this be the end for Wainwright? Would he consider retirement after tonight’s debacle?
The only highlights of this game – so far – are Arenado and Norman’s 23rd dongs.
It’s beginning to look like Wainwright’s not going to reach the 200 W plateau in ’23. There’s not enough of this season left for it to happen, but if he somehow decides to go after number 200 next year, he might put himself in danger of letting his career W/L pct. dip below the .600 mark. He just can no longer record enough outs.
It is not fair to the rest of the team and the fans, all who want to win…much more than worried about Waino getting to 200.! Waino has been dogpoo all year. with these stats he should be sitting in the press box calling the games. I love Waino, but his time has passed and if he really wants to help this team he should consider a assistant coaching job!

This is a lot of hits and runs!As the season is lost, they without a doubt should be giving the guys who have a chance to be around in 2024 all the starts and innings. It is very selfish to keep sending Waino out there, when there is little chance of winning.. and he will not be on the squad next year so…..be a mentor, instead of hanging on by a tiny thread.
These starts should be given to guys who are likely to step up next and have a shot on the team,

Does Liberatore have much trade value at this point? He’s only 23 but…..
If Liberatore is a busy then that will have to go down as one of the worst trades in Cardinal history.
Since Mo and Jr are doing a re-tool rather than a tear down and rebuild, we can figure the idea is to win during the Goldy/NA era. So next couple years. Acquisition and development of starters needs to be aimed at supplying a rotation and rotation depth for the next couple years. AAA starters should be guys that have a decent chance of being able to move up to the ML rotation if needed. We have been trying that with Liby and getting nowhere. Mo needs to look at filling AAA rotation slots with someone else who has not already failed multiple times. Moved up or acquired this winter. Enough of Liby, no to stretching out Thompson or Pallante again. Just say no to the magic kool-aide and quit beating dead horses.
One aspect of the deadline pitching prospect acquisitions that has not been talked about much is that a couple of them have sore arms, currently or substantial history of. Hoping sore arm guys will bounce back and be reliable is part of the problem not part of the fix. It suggests Mo still doesn’t have a grasp of where he has gone wrong with pitching. That is worrisome heading toward this winter.

Its sad to see Wainwright getting bloodied nearly every outing but one or two of these days the Cards will score 10 runs early while he’s on the mound. He deserves the 200 and its not like these games mean too much. And there’s not much to celebrate this season…. maybe mgmt thinks that when he goes for the 200th fans will stream to Busch to see it.
I think Wainwright needs a kind and gentle reality check.

Someone mention to him that he has 39 strike outs in 65 innings and a 1.980 WHIP, so no Adam, stuff-wise you are not OK. Not anywhere remotely close to OK.
This is a tough one for mgmt to navigate.
Bling and others…. take it easy on the guy. You know what he has meant to this team over the decades. My head says that the criticiism is correct and has been earned but my gut says what the hell do we have to lose. Anyway there’s plenty of room for the prospects. Starters = we only got the two…. and one of them is Katz.

That looks like a lot of no shows rather than unsold seats. Fans deciding that the product on the field is not worth the time and trouble to go to the ballpark even when the price of admission is spent. A lot of concession revenue down the drain.
I am sure the view on that photo is very similar to what Mo (and Bill) can see from their suite.
I don’t know people with season seats anymore since the covid season, but I do know that the company I work for has season tickets. For a couple months they have been regularly giving them away to rank and file employees rather than using them for whatever they got them for. I guess taking customer executives and buyers to see a crappy team in the basement is not the thing to do. I think they are having increasing trouble giving them away, as they frequently remind us by e-mail to put out mame in the hat. I wonder how the crowds at Ballpark Village are doing.
I like Waino, and I’m not going for sardonic humor, but at least he’s helping improve our draft order.
Well it happens to all of us at some point. Waino is not alone. great pitchers like Warren Spahn, Steve Carlton, and Juan Marichal tried to keep going thinking they could still win, and reality took awhile to sink in.
I was living in Los Angeles when the Dodgers acquired Marichal. In fact I went to what I think was his last start, which did not go well. If memory serves, and of course we can look this up, I think he only made one or two starts as a Dodger and knew he just could not do it anymore, and retired after a very short stint in the rival’s uniform.
