    Paid - Annual

This is a two part question, but #2 is optional, depending on the answer to #1.

    1) Which two players do you predict the Cardinals will add to the active roster on 9/1? (No more than one can be a pitcher.) (Note this is NOT who you want to see, but who you think the team will select.)

    2) If you add a player not already on the 40-man (including the ones currently on the 60-day IL), who would you remove from the 40-man to make room?

Add Woodford and keep Burly when Noot comes back.

I think Palacios will leave when Noot comes back, so Burly’s slot is secure and does not count as one of the two extras.

I think the two would be Woodford and Herrera.

And then, I believe they could move both Donovan and Carlson to the 60 IL, and add two guys to the 40 man if they want to have a look at a couple guys. I don’t know who, but others might. Depending on who, they would have to send guys down to clear room on the 28 man active roster, Baker, Motter, several back of the pen guys.

I think then they would have to shrink down the 40 man at the end when the 60IL guys count again. But they have guys to drop, like Firmin, Leahy, Nail, Barnes, Lawrence, etc.

Of course, I might be mixed up on how all this works, and if so, I’m sure somebody will let me know.

I agree with Bling. It will be Woodford and Herrera. Helsley and Noot should also be back to displace some of the guys up now. I don’t see any additional adds to the 40-man roster unless it is someone they need to add for the rule 5 draft anyway (Kloffenstein, Prieto, Robersse) and I think those adds would only be from necessity due to injuries.

Certainly Herrera. Helsley pitched yesterday for Springfield so he’ll be back soon. Donovan and Carlson to the 60-man. We have a couple of others on the IL that may be available in Sept.

There’s really no one else at Memphis on the 40-mann that would help.

Help do what? It might be more about who they want to get a look at, or who they want to showcase or prove is healthy.

They should be getting Helsley, Woodford, Liberatore, and Nootbaar back in the next week with Liberatore being the furthest out with his rehab start today.

There’s about 4 guys on the active roster that shouldn’t be there in Lawrence, Barnes, Suarez, and Motter

(Also Palacios, Baker, and Rom too, but I digress)

So my guess is that they just keep one of those pitchers and Motter as the injured guys make their way back.

SP game scores this past Philly series:

    39 Mikolas
    33 Hudson
    55 Rom

At this point in our rebuild, I’d rather Liberatore and Rom both continue starting. They could shut down Mikolas, move Adam to the pen or go with a 6man rotation (with an added pen arm due to expanded rosters).

Woodford had looked very, very good in his rehab outings! Certainly ready to help the team!

Looking like Helsley and Nootbaar will be the Friday roster expansion additions.

Maybe, but Ryan won’t last…obviously something still not right in his arm/ forearm..?
I would take Hels and Noot and Woody, then drop down or let go one of (Suarez,Lawrence,Barnes)!

Who knows what this FO will do…they often do moves that nobody sees or understands..?
But it would make sense to let Hels sit the rest of this year and be ready to help this team in 24, get back to elite status..!! therefore Woody, Noot.

Agree Lee, Woodford pitching too well to sit down in aaa..! As we all know, many times if a player stays on one team for too long, they and the FO/Management get complacent. This may be the case with Woodford. He has been with the Cards since the draft in 2015… maybe the best thing for him would be a fresh start with new coaching eyes on him. Many players move and become better, more versatile players.
If they aren’t going to utilize him, the this is a good option.

Whatever tickets they are going to sell were long since sold, including for the Pirates, so there is no urgency to get the best team on the field.

    Here are the moves.

As expected, Nootbaar and Helsley activated from 10-day and 60-day ILs, respectively.
    Donovan to 60-day IL.
Woodford off 15-day IL and optioned to Memphis.

Marmol is the absolute worst manager in the league.. and the FO is disrespecting the loyal fans with the ignorant moves in the past few years. Mo has no reason being in charge of a team… did he even ever play the game.. ha, what a joke.
I use to like the Cardinals,
NOT ANYMORE …!!!!! I feel bad for the players because the are getting jerked around by the mgr and FO.
I hope for their sakes, most of them get out of St Louis, while they can..!!

    Ok
    Wait.
    Let me understand this..
    Woodford 5.67 era
    Rom 8.00 era
    Lawrence 4.97
    Barnes 8.10
    Suarez 7.16
    ————————————-
So out of these pure numbers
Woodford is the one to get screwed..!!
    Wow.
Something is very wrong in this organization.

They know what they’ve got with Woodford. I don’t blame them for getting a look at the others. Personally, I can’t see any future use for any of them except Rom, who is a longshot.

Then why not release them to go play for another team, instead of keeping them in aaa.. captive.

Fully expecting Helsey to be inconsistent, but just good enough results that they don’t shut him down. Then come to camp in spring and “discover” arm problem. TJ surgery and out until Aug 2025. I’ve had a bad vibe about his arm since this season began. Hope I’m wrong.

Lee, this could be about Woodford’s health. He missed May and July on IL stints.

September 1 is just a point in time. Woodford will be back with St. Louis as soon as they need a long man to eat innings.

He has one more option year, so he will likely be in the organization at least through 2024.
