Woodford again with a dominating performance. What does this kid have to do to get back up..?
His last 4 outings have been…, well look at this.!!
    9/6- IP-4.2,H-2,ER-1,BB-2,K’s-6
    8/29- IP-3.1,H-2,ER-1,BB-1,K’s-6
    8/23- IP-5.0,H-1,ER-0,BB-0,K’s-6
    8/17- IP-1.2,H-1,ER-0,BB-1,K’s-3
    ———————————-
    4G – IP 14.2,H-6,ER-2,BB-4,K’s-21. ERA = 1.26.!
You can’t tell me he doesn’t deserve to be up right now!
If they keep him down in AAA, I certainly hope they let him go to another team and help
them. It would be a crime to keep him stuck in AAA any longer.

WOW! Looks like Woody has found a nice rhythm. I agree, he needs to be up; there are any number of slots you can put him in. Pitching this well, is just being wasted in AAA.
If he does not get back up, you can certainly see he may be done in St.Louis. Maybe the FO is ready to move on from him… this would actually benefit him, as their are many teams that need a steady 5 inng guy or a long reliever!

What is your take on Woodford? Should they cut him loose.? Should he be up in the pen?
I think he has 1 option left, but I think it would be used if he stays in AAA this year…? not sure.
I think that several teams could use someone like him on the roster. He had a couple bad games early this season and was hard to come back from..ditto for most of the pitchers this year.
I believe he has turned the corner and is ready to be a contributor either here or elsewhere.

A big contributor to our problems this year was too many starts of 5 innings or less. It really doesn’t matter what a starter can do for a few innings, if he can’t go 6 most of the time. If they want to keep Woody, they need to quit pretending, and work him up as a reliever. But the problem there is lack of swing and miss.

This is pretty good swing and miss. Overall career is not good, but he has tweaked some of his pitches and it has worked well.! 21 K’s in 14 inngs. That will work, as long as it continues.

Bling, I agree. He is better in the pen. and yes, Lee, if he can continue to put up those numbers, he should surely be up. Now he just needs MO and OM, to get him up again.!!!

If Woodford comes back up, what role do posters want him to have? And why?

I’m thinking a long reliever, spot starter type. He can start, but seems better in a relief role.
When he gets in trouble as a starter is late in the outing, hitting 70-90 pitches… prior to this he is very good!

Peoria (Hi-A) and Palm Beach (A) have already clinched post season spots and are getting their rotations lined up for the play-offs starting next week (two best of 3 series.) That will be fun to keep track of.

AA Springfield is in a dogfight with Wichita to win their division. Both have ten games left and Springfield is 1.0 games behind, they need to win outright since Wichita won the season series 8 games to seven. I would love to see the S-Cards sneak in.

It would be nice to win at least one championship this season.

I agree that if Woody were worked up as a pure reliever, rather than a swing man or spot starter, he could ramp up the swing and miss. In any event, they might as well try it. They aren’t going to end up with anything like they are doing.

Good luck to SPR and PB.

Maybe Woodford will get a chance in Rom’s rotation spot. Since they are preparing him as a starter, play it out for the final three weeks.

Instead, if they change his role again this fast, our resident complainers will surely rip the Cards for flip flopping.

Yeah. One flip flop at a time please. Doing Woody like Liberatore would be just too much.

It looks like the AA Chiefs have their rotation in line for the best of three series against Cedar Rapids starting Tuesday. Rajcic will be plenty rested for Game 1 in Peoria which is close top being a must win because games 2&3 will be road games. The trio of Bedell-Mills and Paniagua will all be available on ample rest for those two games.
It would be good to get Church back for the post-season as he Yeager and Crooks have provided much of the offensive spark in the second half.

The PB-Birds have the same T-Th-F best of three format against Jupiter. Hansen is set for Game 1 with Rincon and Mautz ready to go in Games 2&3. Palm Beach was the 1st half winners and many of the players from the 1st half are now up in Peoria. They still have Curialle plus new additions Levenson, Sullivan and Adkinson that have given them some additional fire-power.

With AA Springfield in good position to make the play-offs it would be very satisfying for the organization to bring home a championship, or two or three.

For the guys that follow the affiliates it should be an exiting couple of weeks.
