6:05 p.m.
RHP Adam Wainwright (3-8, 8.42) vs. RHP Johan Oviedo (6-13, 4.55)
BSM // KMOX
(and Bally Sports Southeast/Southwest Extra)August 21, 2023 at 8:24 pm #232206This one shapes up to be another blowout.
Hopefully the Reds and Angels game will be played Tuesday night and I can have at least one good game to watch.
I am going to call this one 9-3 Pirates.
August 21, 2023 at 10:32 pm #232209This team has now degenerated from a continuous state of perpetual losers to the precise embodiment of utter humiliation. My genuine hope is that nothing is done for the remainder of the regular season to change the current state of affairs for the simple reason as to emphasize the fact that a thorough managerial, coaching and executive cleansing is needed during the off-season. I say let them suffer through the humiliation that they’ve created prior to sacking every last one of them. They should all be required to sit back and not only closely watch, but also to taste the horrible product that they’ve served up to Redbird fans.
August 21, 2023 at 11:07 pm #232211I’d have to say Cody Bellinger is unquestionably the comeback player of the year at this juncture and at barely 28 years of age I’d guess that if he avoids another serious injury he’ll put another 5 or 6 solid seasons up on the board. Other than solid SP’ing, he may be the primary contributor to the Cubs being in serious contention for bonus baseball in Oct.
August 21, 2023 at 11:16 pm #232212I really like Freddie Freeman and he was putting together a solid case for possibly surpassing Acuna as the front runner for the NL MVP award, but I’ve got to grudgingly concede the award to Acuna at this point. He’s put up numbers across the entire board that are more than outstanding. When was the last time a player collected well over 300 TB’s to go along with 60 or more SB’s in a season? I’d have to guess that it’s been awhile. Them’s Willie Mays type number combinations.
August 22, 2023 at 5:55 am #232216If Waino gets blown out yet again, he really should be put in the pen. There is no excuse to keep sending him out there to get beat up. Give these starts to the younger arms to see what they offer; the season is lost, time to start preparing for 2024.

ParticipantI’m thinking that Waino gets 199 tonight just because baseball is such an unpredictable game.
August 22, 2023 at 10:53 am #232230Be bullish on our Birds. I am of the belief that a terribly dismal season such as this is good for the club and it’s fans. Now you don’t want to experience this misery and torment too often, but once every 20 or 25 years can cleanse a perennially successful franchise such as our Cardinals, of much of it’s dead weight that builds up within any organization over the years. And for we fans? Enduring this awfulness of 2023 can and will make our next exciting and successful St. Louis Cardinals club much more sweeter to root for. And as an extra little bonus, we get to select from the real cream of the crop in next year’s draft. So all in all, this 2023 campaign may be just what the doctor ordered for all concerned……. including our opponents this year. A win-win for all if you will.

August 22, 2023 at 4:30 pm #232253It was too late in June.
August 22, 2023 at 4:43 pm #232254The Cardinals are in peril of doing something they haven’t done since 1990 which is finish the season in last place in their division. But here’s something which I think is even more peculiar…They played that 1990 season under the leadership of three different field managers who’s names were Whitey Herzog, Red Schoendienst and Joe Torre, all of whom are members of the HOF. I wonder if there’s ever been another team to finish in last place who had three HOF managers during that same season? I kind of doubt it. At any rate, if the Redbirds finish up this season in last place the current Cardinal manager won’t have to share the credit with anyone. In my view he certainly deserves all the honor and glory…

jj-cf-stlParticipantGoldy is still serviceable, even at less than mvp numbers. Here’s to hoping his ops at least starts with an .8 by seasons end.
Just because his “base runners” on total is second on the club, and rbi% is fourth on the club, it doesn’t mean he will repeat these results next year.
Timely hitting comes and goes. Just a down year with men on for him, it happens. He shows up for work every day.
August 22, 2023 at 5:19 pm #232259I think Goldy has one more nice season in him. When he’s gone, it’s not the loss of his bat that terribly troubles me, but rather the loss of his glove.
August 22, 2023 at 6:02 pm #232260First pitch coming up. Got my fingers crossed hoping for a clean 1st inning.
August 22, 2023 at 6:19 pm #2322614 sean FB coming in at 85 according to ESPN Gamecast.
August 22, 2023 at 6:20 pm #2322623 up 3 down for Waino in the first. 11 pitches.
August 22, 2023 at 6:27 pm #232264Contreras failed to get the runner over to third with less than 2 outs.
August 22, 2023 at 6:37 pm #2322653 up 3 down in the 2nd. Waino at 20 pitches.

August 22, 2023 at 6:52 pm #232269They’re trying to get all these guys situated with a health plan. It’s my understanding that one day on a Big League roster qualifies the player for lifetime healthcare. Not too shabby and Johnny probably has an arrangement with the player in which gets some sort of a kickback…
August 22, 2023 at 6:54 pm #2322703 up 3 down in the 3rd. 29 pitches.
August 22, 2023 at 6:56 pm #232271Cardinals are 0-5 with RISP through 3 innings.
