Reds win their 10th in a row. It might take Fisk to beat them…
June 20, 2023 at 9:06 pm #225185Yep, Ray Washburn was the guy. Came up looking like a future star – threw real hard. But like what happens sometimes, arm injuries curtailed him. He could not stay healthy but did carve out a decent career.
Threw a no-hitter in ‘68.
I was in the West LA/Santa Monica area, Pugs. Had a job at LAX. Great time – I made the most of being young and single back then. After that excursion I settled down, went back to school and grad school even, and basically grew up.
June 20, 2023 at 9:09 pm #225186Man, a new Big Red Machine is churning out Ws. What a change in fortunes between the RedLegs and Redbirds. Two organizations going the opposite way, although we are showing a little life here against these sub-.500 NL East clubs.
June 20, 2023 at 9:21 pm #225188As I mentioned a few days ago this team seems to play better when Contreras is the DH. It could be a coincidence but is something to keep an eye on.

ParticipantStringing a few wins together. I’m having trouble getting in to watching this year. Not specifically because of bad play just lots of stuff. Even though it’s weak teams we are playing, still nice to get some wins together.
June 20, 2023 at 9:31 pm #225191Yeah, he had a nice night at the plate from the DH, gscottar.
June 20, 2023 at 9:34 pm #225192It might take Fisk to beat them.
Haha……..classic TD stuff!
June 20, 2023 at 9:44 pm #225193You know, I thought we were worse off, Pugs, but I looked it up and we’re actually not too bad vs. the Reds this season at 3-4. Hopefully we’ll be playing well and possibly have a chance for the post-season the next time we see them again in Sept. for 6 games. At any rate, the Reds are on fire right now and have the added attraction of having their old hero Joey Votto back in action. He could really provide some additional momentum.
June 20, 2023 at 9:45 pm #225194Still 12 under and 8 games out, 4 out of 4th. Yeah, it’s nice to win a few but the magnitude of the hole they have dug for themselves is really setting in…..
If Knucklehead had just seen what everyone else saw and made a move for a couple of pitchers, the season could be going so much better.
June 20, 2023 at 10:01 pm #225196Yeah, it’s tough to have to leapfrog four teams, ZTR. I try to maintain the mindset of only focusing on clawing towards .500, but still always cave to the temptation of checking the standings. A few weeks ago when the Cardinals approached to within 4.5 back, I became a bit deluded and forgot that the fact is that nothing good can happen until any team reaches the .500 plateau. Once you break even, only then can you think about walking away a winner.
June 20, 2023 at 10:08 pm #225197SF’s trying to win their 9th in row at home vs. SD. The Giants have really thrashed the Cardinals this season winning 6 of the 7 games played between the two teams.
June 21, 2023 at 5:23 am #225199Its fun to put together a winning streak, but we should remember we are playing NL East bottom feeders like the Nats and Mets. Climbing out of the hole will require us to beat good teams as well. After the London trip we play Houton and The Yankees at Busch. That will be an important homestand.
June 21, 2023 at 7:06 am #225204Woodford looked pretty good, a bit rusty, needs more inngs.. got unlucky with a late swing down the 1st base line for a triple.. other than that was solid.
June 21, 2023 at 7:07 am #225205Oh, and the beard is looking pretty good!
June 21, 2023 at 7:07 am #225206I think they should all grow beards… make it a St. Louis thing…!

jj-cf-stlParticipantIf he stays healthy by seasons end, Monty is an easy Q-offer decision.
June 21, 2023 at 10:52 am #225210I’m not sure the beards would be a good idea heading into the blistering high summer heat and humidity of July and August. I haven’t sported a chin mane since my working days, but would always allow that thing to get a little wild during the winter months to not only take on the look of Sasquatch, but also to keep my mug warm when working outdoors in the dead of winter. But as soon as the weather began to warm up and a little humidity set in I’d have to hack that thing off only because if I didn’t I’d start to itch like a poor old dog with fleas…That could be a problem on the baseball field. Especially on the pitcher’s mound or in the batter’s box. It could result in a balk or a defensive one handed swing…I say save the grizzly face for Sept. and Oct.
June 21, 2023 at 11:07 am #225215Oh…I also don’t think the game of baseball and any sort of hair are too compatible. When we were kids, we always got a buzz cut before baseball season started and we began to convene for our various little league tryouts and practices. We did this for several reasons. It was the stylish thing to do for a young baseball player and it prevented us from getting too hot on the field in the blistering daylight sun. And when games or practices weren’t going on, it all but eliminated the possibility of taking on burrs and ticks during the summer when we were building those forts and tree houses in the woods…You know, those treehouses that were elevated so high that one false move during the climb or descent would leave zero chance of survival…Haha!
