“Patience.
Veteran leadership.
This offense is going to be really good.
When Matz comes back next week, it will be just like a deadline trade.
Philosophical differences.”This and every topic is and should be centered around the Cardinal’s future Red Jacket member Alec Burleson.
Though nothing he has done suggests super-stardom, all you “gangbangers and malcontents” need to get on board.
Blue font.
Burly bunting. Brilliant. Bench him if that’s his idea, or fire his manager.
JHC.
Development does not appear to happen anymore in this organization.
Wow. Thin-skinned much? You pimp Burleson tirelessly but when he fails, you point at the rest of the team. Hint: Burly isn’t the savior or answer.
He would be a serviceable 25th-26th bench piece on a balanced team. While cheap and young.
“baffling how management fired Shildt after he was so successful, then hired Marmol, then doubled down on Marmol after the worst season in recent memory.
And now they set themselves up for having to fire him with all the y.”talk about how they have the personnel to win. More wasted cash that could have been used for talented on-field use. A dysfunctional management team that has completely lost touch with reality.”
100% correct.
@BicycleMike stated:
“First it was firing Shildt.”Absolutely correct! Take a committed Cardinal lifer with a proven record and can him over Zoom because you have thin skin and can’t take honest feedback.
This was telling of the real state of things then and 2023-4 results aren’t too surprising.

Rom placed on the 60 day IL.
Agree. Hererra’s bat has backed up.His defense is poor. Would demote Pages and Burleson when Carp and Carlson return. Siani is a dead bat but provides some versatility and speed valuable in late innings. Don’t see the sparks needed to get this team going internally.
Cards current record protracts out to about 75 wins. Maybe enough not to finish last. Pitching is doing it’s part but the offense went unaddressed in the off-season in fact it was subtracted from.
This is what they are. A middling 500ish team.At Golden Coral?
ok.
Your statement is completely without merit.
No way to defend that lineup outperforming the MLB lineup against MLB pitching.
To be clear @Shady you believe that the proposed lineup above would “produce” as much offense as the current MLB Cards lineup against MLB pitching (or minor league pitching) over what period of time?
Perfect.
I could see Burly hitting 2nd in Memphis.

Totally correct. Whatever the ‘difference’ was in philosophy: time has proven that Shildt was on the right side. His teams were fundamentally sound and the players were engaged. He may never win another MOY or playoff game, but he read the team and maximized it’s potential. The STEEP decline began then. He likely knew what the organization needed to progress, and they didn’t want to respond. Here we are.

Both sides of your statement are true. But not together.
You’ve been overpimping Burly for a long time. To excuse his constant lack of production by comparing it to the lack of production of others isn’t logically even. Many slumping starters on the roster have produced at an MLB level. He hasn’t.
That said, the team collectively is underperforming. One has to look to at leadership now to determine the problem. Either leadership poorly constructed the team, or is unable to help or motivate it’s players.
He looked awful today. The team needs (among things) a professional potent DH.
Maybe that’s Wilson Contreras.
I see what you did there @shady. Anything is possible, but Gorman has turned into a competent 2nr baseman with a strong throwing arm.
Why would you hide his arm at 1B?
April 20, 2024 at 5:16 am in reply to: StL 2024 Game #20 thread – Friday, April 19 vs. Brewers #248749For what is happening now, I would get Burleson’s bat in the lineup. Too many sure outs now. I’ll take a 1-4 guy with a slap single. It’s something.

April 17, 2024 at 5:21 pm in reply to: StL 2024 Game #19 thread – at A’s, Wednesday, April 17 #248511Team Is pretty heartless. Simply workman-like. No one is having much fun win or lose. Not sure if it’s leadership or simply a quiet acknowledgement that it’s a broken (again) roster. Whatever, it’s not working.
Neither win in Oakland inspires confidence. Then there’s today’s turd.
And no “Burly” again. WOW
Couldn’t agree more about him being “least important player on the roster” and personally will not give any more oxygen to this dumpster fire of a topic.
