Agreed. Hope Walker is ok.
With an ERA of 45.0. He is expensive, but had a bad spring and a terrible 1 inning outing vs the Padres.
Clarification Mr. Shady, Yamamoto is a right handed pitcher…..per Baseball Reference and MLB.com.
Why trade young talent if they don’t know if competitive yet? Jumping the gun.
We can revisit in July.
ok .
Sensitive much? Let’s quit whining and talk baseball!
Since this topic is about Alec Burleson’s potential, it’s not useful to compare him to others. No one else is the 2024 St. Louis Cardinals DH. He has had an abysmal 2 games. Which doesn’t matter if he improves.
But, as previously pointed it, this mirrors his previous 2 years as an MLB hitter. Low batting average, poor power, hapless against LHP. Hopefully Cards get some useful bats back off the IL ASAP! Until then, let’s hope he can have something good to talk about.
Tough night at the dish for Burly! 0-4 (0 for 2024 now) with another K.
Cards need to find some offense somewhere.

need more veteran leadership.^^^^^
Wow. Well put! It will probably ruffle someone’s feathers however this take seems to be the consensus.
March 29, 2024 at 12:59 pm in reply to: Scott and Saggese provide solid insurance this season #245378Or maybe Burleson could improve his defense and power there. He could be possibly formidable at the MLB level if he could fix those shortcomings.
@ Shady
I’m not sure if Nootbaar, Edman and Carlson will produce a lot more than Burleson as a hitter. I guess we’ll see. I’m assuming some posters weren’t impressed with Burleson’s .375 BA in spring training. I was. And I’m guessing the Cardinals were, too.
.
o.k.

Previous 3 posts are dead on.
We can hope and some can hype Burly, but to date as a MLB hitter…. Not much there.
March 28, 2024 at 7:41 pm in reply to: Scott and Saggese provide solid insurance this season #245336Would alternate Burleson and Carpenter at DH on days you don’t use that slt to give regulars/injured partial days off.
One Of AB or MC would eventually outperform the other.
Ideally the team would have acquired a professional/potent DH. Didn’t happen.
Maybe Burleson develops. Other than hitting for a average vs. ST pitching, I’m not seeing him drive the ball into gaps or over the walls.
He Profiles as a bench at now.
We’ll just have to see how things go Mr. Shady.

Cards were swinging early in the count vs Glasgow. (Minus PG)
Hitting from behind constantly, plus the early lead, put him in control.
Tough to watch 8/9ths of the lineup put up nada.
March 28, 2024 at 7:20 pm in reply to: Scott and Saggese provide solid insurance this season #245329Someone will need to DH. Can’t keep getting nothing out of the 6 hole.
Concur.
March 28, 2024 at 3:39 pm in reply to: St. Louis 2024 Game #1 thread – at Dodgers, Thursday, March 28 #245253Cards overmatched by TG. Weak strikeouts by Walker and Burleson.
Burleson totally Overmatched vs. Glasgow. Need better at bats from a DH. Weak.
ok
I am ice cold on his weak contact. Unless he starts to drive the ball, I am not sure he stays in the majors with STL (given his poor fielding) when the injured guys start coming back.
March 26, 2024 at 10:12 pm in reply to: Scott and Saggese provide solid insurance this season #245098We will have to wait for the cluttered middle infield to clear out or fail to find out if he can hit at a big league level.
Lots of 2b and 3b on the roster now.
Burleson’s defensive and base running limitations have held him back from a starting role despite injuries to 3 outfielders. This should have been his time.
He has a a solid spring and could help the team this season if he can hit with a bit more power. We’ll see.
@T8ball12
3rd DH today behind Herrera and Carp. Oli not believing in Burleson’s hitting ability vs. LHP.Struck out in his only at bat.
To be fair, he still had a better day than Goldy.March 25, 2024 at 11:10 am in reply to: Scott and Saggese provide solid insurance this season #244895Interesting.
