LHP Steven Matz (1-0, 1.80) vs. RHP Paul Blackburn (1-0, 0.00)
BSM // KMOX
Also BS SouthApril 16, 2024 at 11:11 pm #248423Blackburn hasn’t allowed a run yet on the season. Let’s end that streak.
April 17, 2024 at 2:13 am #248424A sweep would be nice but the odds say might not happen. Hard to sweep a team on the road.
I think WC will be sat tomorrow. Might have a Burleson sighting.
April 17, 2024 at 4:56 am #248427Don’t forget its a day game.
April 17, 2024 at 7:15 am #248434Bummer, planning on finishing my buddy’s winter firewood today. He’s got 9 yrs on me and the chainsaw is out of his wheelhouse now, but he gets outside w/me and helps load and stack. Helps him keep his lifestyle and adult dignity intact, but we WILL have the game on the radio.
Can we try that sweep thing? Bring it home TCN!
April 17, 2024 at 8:13 am #248435Hopefully Marmol does not run the ‘Sunday’ lineup out there today.
April 17, 2024 at 9:16 am #248438Good to get the series, but storm clouds are on the horizon in the form of our poor offense.
We need at least two more guys to get going with the bats or the wins will be few and far between. Walker seems to be better in the outfield, but has not progressed as a hitter to this point. Gorman is streaky, Goldschmidt looks old, Scott is overmatched. Both catchers are doing okay, but that is a bit awkward trying to play both. Arenado is coming along and should be fine.
But we need to find at least two of the under-performers to figure it out soon. Maybe Carlson will finally fulfill some of his original potential when he returns.
April 17, 2024 at 9:42 am #248439It think we’ve lost all the last games of series this year. Didn’t we have that issue a few years back? Maybe it was last year, even. Seems like a focus issue. Gotta get a W here to keep pace against the last place As.
April 17, 2024 at 11:24 am #248441I think we’ve lost all the last games of series’ this year.
Nice observation, stlcard25 and albeit a relatively small body of work, it’s a rather telling stat. Oli has to teach these guys how to close under various situations…..unless Oli is a little inefficient himself on effectively closing matters. All the winning teams are good or great closers.
Especially when you have the opponent on the mat, you cannot continually allow him to rise and punch you in the face. Winners in baseball, as in life, are adept closers. I’ll be very disappointed if we can’t complete the sweep on this lower rung squad today. I’m mired in work down here in the ole’ salt mines today, but hope to get these guys running out ALL their ground balls, so I can get out of here early to catch at least some of today’s action.April 17, 2024 at 11:50 am #248442Gotta get that offense going. Desperately need Edman & Carlson back. I know Carlson is not a favorite, but he’s always hit better than Siani or Scott.
April 17, 2024 at 1:01 pm #248443LF B. Donovan L
1B P. Goldschmidt R
RF L. Nootbaar L
3B N. Arenado R
DH W. Contreras R
2B Nolan Gorman L
C Ivan Herrera R
SS Masyn Winn R
CF Mike Siani LApril 17, 2024 at 2:21 pm #248452People pretty much know my lineup by now, but just to make it official using that same group I would have gone:
Donovan
Winn
Nootbaar
Arenado
Contreras
Goldschmidt
Gorman
Herrera
SianiAnd really would prefer Herrera at 6 and Goldy at 8, but that is a little drastic even though Goldy’s production is not on par with the young backstop to this point.
Okay, wont be watching the first part of this one as I am getting out on the bike for awhile. Will have the KMOX broadcast dialed in though while riding. Would be nice to sweep, but I think it will take more than 3 runs to do that this time.
April 17, 2024 at 3:08 pm #248457Blackburn settles in by striking out the side in the top 2nd, 0-0. I don’t think they will go quietly.
April 17, 2024 at 3:11 pm #248458Blackburn starts the top 3rd at 36 pitches.
April 17, 2024 at 3:19 pm #2484593 up, 3 down for us.
Matz starts bottom 3rd at 32 pitches.
0-0 scoreApril 17, 2024 at 3:21 pm #248460Leadoff walk, Matz second issued
April 17, 2024 at 3:22 pm #2484612 run dinger.
April 17, 2024 at 3:24 pm #248462Belt high inner half and Ruiz jumped on that pitch like he was mad at it.
April 17, 2024 at 3:24 pm #248463another walk, 1 down
April 17, 2024 at 3:26 pm #2484646-4-3 almost, 2 down. Nice D from Arenado.
April 17, 2024 at 3:28 pm #248465You won’t see a nicer turn than that one.
Edit…I thought the 1B umpire called him out.
April 17, 2024 at 3:29 pm #248466Pop-out ends it, down 2-0
Blackburn starts the top 4th at 50 pitches.
April 17, 2024 at 3:31 pm #248468Noot w/a leadoff hit. I like his obp high in the lineup.
April 17, 2024 at 3:32 pm #248469Hit and run by Arenado, 1st and 3rd, none down.
April 17, 2024 at 3:36 pm #248470Contreras double, tied
Turns out Blackburn isn’t perfect.
Gorman K, doesn’t move Contreras at 2B.
Herrera drills a single, Willson scores.
3-2 lead now. -
