As a blocked middle infielder, I would hope TS could progress with much fanfare and be flipped in a package for PITCHING. As stated earlier, the Cards got him for a rental. There is a hole somewhere. Let another organization find it.
Outfielders need a glove. Getting no clear read on Edman’s prognosis/return from injury. Would hope his 2 year arb buyout is a signal that the team expects him to be on track sooner RTL.
Burleson is at at BEST a short term stop-gap (a couple of weeks) as an outfielder. If he mashes, he could DH, and be one of the numerous options as a back up 1B (Carp, Contreras, Donovan, Gorman, etc).
Burleson has hit well against Spring Training pitching. Still limited power.
I wonder who will be sent to Memphis or cut after Nootbar and Edman return.
Betting on Burleson shuttling back and forth to Memphis as allowed.
Maybe cut Crawford or shuttle Fermin?

I guess we won’t see how Burleson progresses today as he was left out of the starting lineup. (Donovan in LF, Carpenter DH).
Maybe he’ll be a replacement or pinch hit during mop-up time.

Baseball has operated that “dysfunctional” way for decades. It’s a little surprising that this is news to serious fans.

Few managers have ever had control of the roster. They don’t draft, trade, set contracts.Never have. A respected Manager may have a voice or some input. I don’t get the sense the Cards front office cares too much what Shildt/Marmol/insert next surprise replacement thinks. (see TLR/Shildt outcomes)
Shildt ‘s teams were always fundamentally sound. TLR/Herzog ditto.
To tie that back to this thread, that’s why I challenge Shady about Burleson’s impending super-stardom.
Walker will be a poor-average corner outfielder for a good while. He’s going to be there for awhile. Burleson will be bad in left. The outfield can’t be that bad with the Cardinals starting rotation allowing the amount contact we expect.
Burleson has not done enough at the plate to justify his shortcomings as a defensive player. Or enough YET to profile as a DH.
Hope “Burly” does well. I sense he is a good guy. He is going to get opportunities with injuries to Edman and Nootbar. I sincerely hope he is used wisely.

Starting pitching is not encouraging so far.I was talking about his fielding, Bad. Dispute that?
Who knows if he can hit? As a 1B or DH he’ll need to do more offensively than he has to date in MLB action to be viable.
Burleson in left field should be an emergency measure only. Cards starting pitching does not have an abundance of swing and miss stuff.
The ball will be in play.Cards were historically a team with strong fielding fundamentals.
Walker in RF is weak and to be fair, the team pushed him there.An outfield cornered by Burleson and Walker is a big problem.
Sure, but he’s a season and a half beyond AAA. MLB WAR is abysmal. Looks lost in the field. He has to start hitting. Hope he progresses.
I am not aware of when “soft contact” is ever good.
Unless you are Vince Coleman or Bake McBride on Busch II AstroTurf.
Hopeful but not confident that he can contribute. If so, doubt it will be at a position, so he needs to start driving the ball.
