April 30, 2024 at 5:29 pm #250185BOCfan, thanks for the info.
April 30, 2024 at 8:40 pm #250238Tink Hence with a nice outing for Springfield…7 IP (I think a career high), 2H, 1 ER, 2BB, 10Ks.
April 30, 2024 at 8:44 pm #250240Kid gloves have definitely been put away regarding Hence. He threw 94 pitches tonight.
May 1, 2024 at 5:53 am #250269The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-1 on Tuesday. TCN’s Players of the Day are both from Springfield. Tink Hence pitched seven one-run innings with 10 Ks, and 2B Bryan Torres was 3-for-5 with three RBI. Other standouts: Nick Raposo, Zach Levenson, Dakota Harris & Joseph King.… pic.twitter.com/pom0nsgbhX

May 1, 2024 at 10:14 am #250285Hence’s stuff is nasty. Fingers crossed Hence stays healthy as he looks to have the stuff to be a top of the rotation pitcher. MILB has a video of his strikeouts up. https://www.milb.com/video/tink-hence-s-10-strikeout-performance?t=playerid-693311
May 1, 2024 at 10:59 am #250290Anyone know how Nathan Church looks on defense? I don’t see any scouting reports on him. He is having a good season so far and I am glad to see him have more pop in his bat. I see in the Springfield he has been playing all 3 OF spots so I am hoping he is capable enough to be a 4th OF one day or as Fangraphs had bucketed him, a potential devil magic candidate.
May 1, 2024 at 11:21 am #250291Preparig for last winter’s top prospects vote, I had looked up the TCN article from when Church was drafted. Not one word about his glove.
May 1, 2024 at 11:37 am #250292Albert,
He has regularly played all 3 outfield positions. I feel like he’s a good defender. Probably average CF material and a plus in the corners due to his speed. His real question will be whether or not he can hit enough because he has no power and there’s no other area where he’s spectacular. I thought he should have been rated in our top 50 prospects and was ultra surprised to see him not be. But I think that’s because of what I just mentioned. He’s just solid to good all around with no major standout skills.
To recap, good defense but not enough to stand out, good speed but not enough to make a big impact, good bat but we’ll see how that plays as he moves up, and almost zero power.
May 2, 2024 at 6:32 am #250388The #STLCards system was 1-4 on Wednesday as offense was scarce below Triple-A. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis 1B Alfonso Rivas, was 4-for-4 including three doubles, a walk and three RBI. Other standouts include Gordon Graceffo, Darlin Saladin and Augusto… pic.twitter.com/5UFBXlJeZ8

May 2, 2024 at 7:13 am #250389Re. Church. We have been finding out that a CF capable 4th OF type, even a AAAA level guy, could be handy to have. We will see how he does in the upper levels.
May 2, 2024 at 9:01 am #250395With the Matz situation, it could be a big start for Robberse tonite. He’s been outstanding. Not sure if he’s ready for the MLB. But another great start tonite, just might put him in the conversation.
May 2, 2024 at 10:28 am #250401I read yesterday that Rom could be looking at surgery.
May 2, 2024 at 4:57 pm #250431FWIW – Fangraphs ranks all the minor league players by their age and performance to date. Thus far the Cardinals have 4 players in the top 30:
17 Quinn Matthews
19 Tink Hence
25 Nathan Church
29 Sem RobberseOthers from the NL Central:
1 Paul Skenes (Pirates)
20 Tyler Black (Brewers)
26 Hector Rodriguez (Reds)
30 Conner Capel (Reds) (former Card)The Cubs best is #82
May 2, 2024 at 8:43 pm #250455Another outstanding performance by Robberse tonight.
https://www.milb.com/gameday/redbirds-vs-knights/2024/05/02/753530/liveMay 2, 2024 at 10:03 pm #250457I would like to see one of Liberatore, Robberse, or Graceffo get a good shot at the rotation and establish themselves for a couple of months later this year. We have some good promising young pitchers that we need to acclimate to a high league SP role, and we can’t do all of them at once. Soon after those guys are ready (some will bust and others may be RP), there will be another wave potentially ready in Roby and Hence.
I have thought Matz has the stuff to he a #3, but if he can’t put it togethe, I would turn that rotation spot over to one of the youngsters by July.
May 3, 2024 at 9:38 am #250474On Thursday, the #stlcards system went 1-2. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis’ Sem Robberse, threw six one-run innings with six strikeouts. Other standouts include Dylan Carlson, Cesar Prieto, Nick Dunn, Cade Winquest and Johnfrank Salazar. https://t.co/NOO3GYUpy1 pic.twitter.com/HYMQtsTGoQ

May 3, 2024 at 6:51 pm #250534Quinn Mathews is through 6 innings tonight at under 70 pitches. 6 strikeouts. 0 runs. 2 singles. ERA down to .38. So for about every 26 innings he pitches, he gives up a run.
May 3, 2024 at 7:00 pm #250536Saggese is showing some home run pop at AAA Memphis. He hit his 4th HR on the young season this evening.
May 3, 2024 at 7:04 pm #250538Mathews really needs to be promoted to High A to maybe get challenged a little more and to be at a more age appropriate level. I’m definitely excited about him, but I don’t know if the results we are seeing are real or him being too old for the level.
May 3, 2024 at 7:23 pm #250542RBKParticipantThey started Mathews too low, he’s a pretty polished and experienced pitcher. I expect they will bump him up to Peoria soon. The high K% for him is revealing–he’s simply at the wrong level.
May 4, 2024 at 7:11 am #250628The #STLCards system was 4-1 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach DH Miguel Villarroel, was 4-for-5 with two RBI. Other standouts include Quinn Mathews, Pete Hansen, Zack Thompson, Andre Pallante, Edwin Nuñez and Nathan Church. https://t.co/jtiNOQVXz6 pic.twitter.com/IKpzYH3ueI

May 4, 2024 at 7:21 am #250631I have lost track of Springfield’s starting rotation sequence. Has Cornwell lost his slot after that disaster his last time out?
