Ozuna had injuries unfortunately that zapped his power but now healthy he’s back to form as he was with Marlins in 2017. Had he not fractured his fingers last year he was on track to hit 35-40 homers.
Brian: Seijas was outrighted earlier but does not seem to be at Springfield. Meisinger and Cruz were outrighted and are there. Was the DFA waiver process the difference?
The Padres gave up the ship for Clevinger and I think it’s offensive upgrades the Cardinals need not pitching.
Herrera and Rodriguez need to be added to 40 man and guess they take chance on leaving Torres exposed.
For the 2020-21 International signing period the Cardinals are linked to Leonardo Bernal, a top catching prospect from Panama plus shortstops Elias Reynoso, Angelo Encarnacion, Yansel Guerrero and Marcelo Perez. Also outfielders Robelin Lopez, Romtrez Cabrera, and Cristian Avendano.
With all the likely pitchers I could see several catchers and don’t discount Dennis Ortega who was having a good spring training. Organization people really like his catch and throw skills. I also favor Mateo Gill being included. Don’t see Roberts, Nogowski, Baker, Dobzanski but we’ll know soon enough.
Be interesting to see the makeup of the 60 players. Wonder if you can exclude 40 man roster guys and instead go with more prospects instead and the technicalities involved there. (Roster vs non roster). Looks like a balancing act to keep better prospects active and having ample protection for big club)
Wouldn’t be surprised at another 15 or so releases by the end of June. I actually saw about that many that I was surprised survived the last cuts.
Refresher: Are players over 22 subject to spending limits and thus would signing of Cuban players have to wait till January signing period?
I like most of the draftees and non draft signees but brings up the point of how on God’s green earth they can all play and develop without Johnson City and State College as springboards to Peoria. They will have to add at least one if not two additional clubs in Jupiter perhaps in coordination with the other nearby clubs
