jj-cf-stlParticipantDeJong should help the slg%, where we rank 28th in baseball.

jj-cf-stlParticipantSTl has played many 7 inning games already, somewhat dampening the opportunity to post a higher runs per game. 6 of 15 games have been double headers, not a huge factor but it’s there.

ParticipantMLB team stats
August 22, 2020 at 9:48 pm #136492bccran
ParticipantCardinal team stats –
BA – 25th
OBP – 24th
Slugging – Tied for 29th
OPS – 26thThat’s really sad.

jj-cf-stlParticipantDon’t forget it’s real early, we had a long inactivity and we’re missing our cleanup bat.
For instance, Bader entered tonights game with 4 total bases, he now has 10. I’ll guess he adds .250 pts to his ops and at least doubles his ops+. It’s still that early.
August 22, 2020 at 10:07 pm #136495jj, you were close on OPS. He added .240 to his OPS and 60 points to his BA.

ParticipantThis team didnt hit that good last year and we basically have the same team except we havent played as much becauzse of the covid. This team isnt going to magically heat up. What they really need to get better at is situational hits. Too many times we havent gotten that big hit that would give us some separation. And thats largely been our middle thats let us down. Its been different guys but its that general area. 3-6 has to be better consistently, forget about 7-9. If 7-9 hits thats just a plus.

Participant2019 team stats –
BA – 23rd
OBP – 17th
Slg. – 23rd
OPS – 21stAnd Ozuna is gone. Maybe it will pick up, jj, but you never know. Mo sure is taking a big risk this year.
August 23, 2020 at 8:45 am #136522bccran
ParticipantCute Ozuna kids. Thanks for sharing.
As it stands now –
Ozuna – .278/.377/.546/.924
Fowler – 279/.326/.419/.745
O’Neill – .170/.278/.404/.682
Bader – .185/.313/.370/.683
Carlson – .114/.162/.143/.305Mo’s big OF risk.
August 23, 2020 at 9:01 am #136523
jj-cf-stlParticipantSo Mo took Ozuna’s 18mil and signed FA’s KK (4mil), B. Miller (2mil), Wainwright (5mil & 5mil incentives) and Wieters (2mil).
So far that’s our best SP (Adam), KK as our highest ERA+ to date, our highest ops+ in Miller and Wieters depth has already been necessary. He just had different priorities than you. Neither of you has to be wrong.
August 23, 2020 at 9:09 am #136524bccran
ParticipantIs that the way to look at it? Or do you raise the payroll a bit?
August 23, 2020 at 9:30 am #136525
jj-cf-stlParticipantThat’s how I look at what did happen. I went into the offseason wanting to trade for Starling Marte. Mo had other priorities, but it doesn’t mean I was wrong either.
Mo’s evidently going to find out what he has in his young outfielders. As a develop from within club I get his reasoning. We moved outfielders last offseason and I’ll bet we’re not done yet, big surplus that needs/needed evaluated vs MLB.
I for one don’t want Carlson sent down. Let him face what he’s struggling against. I don’t believe facing pitching that couldn’t make the 29man is his area that needs improving. I am getting tired of seeing his hits up the middle getting turned into outs by the shift.
August 23, 2020 at 9:38 am #136527bccran
ParticipantI don’t believe at all that we have a surplus of outfielders right now. We have a few guys at the upper level and a void below that, going down multiple levels.
August 23, 2020 at 9:59 am #136528
jj-cf-stlParticipantThere’s 7 on the 40man and a few of you prospect gurus are suggesting players like Montero get moved out there. After the 40man, I’ll leave that OF discussion to ya’ll.
August 23, 2020 at 10:25 am #136529UncleDenny
ParticipantOzuna 7 homers, Grichuk 8 homers, we passed on Castellanos 9 homers. Mentioned this for a friend.😊
August 23, 2020 at 10:28 am #136530bccran
ParticipantThe choice of OFers doesn’t look great. At least right now.
August 23, 2020 at 12:04 pm #136557Bccran, have you found all those links to Thomas’s scouting reports, yet?
August 23, 2020 at 12:15 pm #136559bccran
Participantjj –
Here are the 7 outfielders you mentioned on the 40 man –
Bader
Carlson
Dean
Fowler
O’Neill
Thomas
WilliamsName one that’s a proven entity in the middle of MLB productive years. And you say we have an over abundance we can trade from? I would respectfully have to take exception with that.
August 23, 2020 at 12:17 pm #136560bccran
ParticipantI don’t need links, Forsch. I quoted our own manager.
August 23, 2020 at 12:24 pm #136561If we had only known the DH was coming, then Ozuna or Castellanos should have been targeted. I don’t consider either outfielders.
August 23, 2020 at 12:38 pm #136563UncleDenny
ParticipantCarlson has good trade value but none of the others would bring much if anything of value
August 23, 2020 at 1:17 pm #136564bccran
ParticipantIf that’s the case, UncleDenny, what does that tell us?
August 23, 2020 at 2:13 pm #136573It may take awhile for us to have enough information to fully analyze the decision to let Ozuna walk. We know that the Cardinals saved $18M which allowed them to spend on areas of the team that they might not have been abe to, as jj alluded. The team planned to give O’Neill, Thomas, and Bader a full year to see what they could do with regular playing time. Well that isn’t going to happen in 2020 due to unforseen circumstances. That plan may now get shifted to 2021.
Also, we wouldn’t have Alec Burleson if Ozuna was still here. We won’t even begin to see what we have in Burleson until next year.
August 23, 2020 at 2:39 pm #136580bccran
ParticipantAs you say, the team decided to give O’Neill, Thomas, and Bader a full year to see what they could do with full playing time. When is the last time the Cardinals didn’t have a true veteran high producer anchoring the OF?
