Progress !
thanks for the info Brian
June 18, 2020 at 7:51 am #130907So just looking at rankings for the draft picks I pulled up the MLB.com rankings and thought I’d see where they fit in. I put them in the Cards top prospect where I think they’d slot in based on their overall rank.
Jordan Walker / 50 / 9
Masyn Wynn / 50 / 10 (Personally I’d slot him around 14-15)
Tink Hence / 45 / 15-20
Ian Bedell / 45 / 15-20
Alec Burlson / 45 / 15-20
Levi Prater / 40 / Maybe 30 (probably not with the above 5 additions)Overall that seems about right. Alec Burlson is a little higher than I would have guessed. I like the two pitchers they signed, Dalatri and Trogrlic-Iverson. Very interesting and have some good qualities. Really 5-8th round types any other year. Could be interesting guys to keep an eye on if the fall league starts up. Thanks for the articles Brian, very good work by you and your staff.
June 18, 2020 at 8:11 am #130911And thank you to all of you who subscribe for your support of our work!
June 19, 2020 at 8:57 am #130967I don’t usually push subscriber articles on the main board, but you are really missing out if you can’t read Derek Shore’s latest feature!
"The Quiet Assassin"
Tink Hence and his prep coach share scouting stories and provide an assessment of the offerings and demeanor of the 17-year old. The RHP also touches on his signing status with the #stlcards. Exclusive TCN feature by @D_Shore23. ($) https://t.co/QBzUN9WT3h pic.twitter.com/WcXWfrWQzE

June 19, 2020 at 9:04 am #130969Really nice article on Tink Hence. Looking forward to having him officially in the Cardinal family – – Thanks Derek and Brian –
June 19, 2020 at 6:27 pm #131010I assume Walker, Winn and Hence have all completed their physicals.
Does anyone actually KNOW this to be true?
Heard anything along those lines?June 19, 2020 at 11:32 pm #131045June 20, 2020 at 7:03 am #131052June 21, 2020 at 10:11 am #131100What percentage and when are the bonus payments made to draftees? Is it 50% in 2020, and then 25% for 2021 and 2022?
June 21, 2020 at 11:43 am #131103c27 asked:
What percentage and when are the bonus payments made to draftees? Is it 50% in 2020, and then 25% for 2021 and 2022?
No. It is $100,000 maximum this year with the remainder of the signing bonus split evenly between 2021 and 2022.
On a related point, I still do not understand why the owners never made a comparable-type deferred payment offer to the MLB players. After all, the teams’ real issue is cash flow, not long-term profitability.
June 21, 2020 at 1:53 pm #131119Brian, maybe part of the reason is the upcoming negotiations on a new bargaining agreement. Giving more money to players in 2021 COULD have the effect of making the players a little more firm in their stances due to more money in the pockets.
June 22, 2020 at 5:46 pm #131187Chisox inked Garrett Crochett.
anticipation mounts for the Cards’ top three.

ParticipantJordan Walker has signed per MLB
June 23, 2020 at 3:08 pm #131281
stlcard25Participant1st-rder Jordan Walker signs with @Cardinals for $2.9 mil (slot 21 value = $3,132,300). Georgia HS 3B, huge power potential, athletic for 6-ft-5 guy, may wind up in RF. Duke recruit. @MLBDraft

Walker’s deal is a bit below slot, as well.
June 23, 2020 at 3:15 pm #131286June 23, 2020 at 4:17 pm #131291saved another $213,000 of pool money
June 23, 2020 at 8:23 pm #131303from a Brenden Schaeffer article:
After agreeing to terms with Walker, the Cardinals have just a few remaining picks from the 2020 draft that remain unsigned. St. Louis Scouting director Randy Flores said Tuesday he anticipates those signings will be wrapped up shortly.
June 24, 2020 at 8:03 am #131351I mentioned earlier that non-drafted free agents can be signed until next June, but I left out an important point. To return to school this fall, underclassmen would have to pull out of the draft pool first.
June 24, 2020 at 5:04 pm #131381Masyn Winn apparently just signed, per a tweet from D Goold.
YES !
June 24, 2020 at 5:52 pm #131387Per Jim Callis…2nd-rder Masyn Winn signs with
@Cardinals
for $2.1 million (slot 54 value = $1,338,500). Texas HS SS/RHP, legit prospect both ways, plus raw power, solid speed, big arm up to 98 on mound, can show plus curveball & changeup too. Arkansas recruit.
@MLBDraftJune 24, 2020 at 6:27 pm #131391wow ! way over slot.
now Hence and BedellJune 24, 2020 at 7:47 pm #131396
stlcard25ParticipantInterestingly, the $2.1M that Winn got is equivalent to the value of between the 34th and 35th pick. That’s higher than the value placed on the pick the Cards traded to the Rays.
June 24, 2020 at 9:39 pm #131412On Wednesday afternoon, the #stlcards announced the signing of 2nd-round draft pick Masyn Winn, taken 54th overall. The 18-year old SS/RHP is in St. Louis to finalize his first professional contract. (free) https://t.co/0ezxroTDAJ pic.twitter.com/vQJ3B4whA4

June 25, 2020 at 5:35 pm #131473Tink Hence has signed. I figure Callis or Mayo will have the signing amount shortly.
