I hate that the Pond Scum got a really good catcher

Pity they weren’t around back in the ’70’s to discuss Simba’s hair.

    Interesting thought process.

    I don’t agree at all.

When the opponent has conceded, the least you can do is to take your foot off their neck, so to speak. One of those unwritten rules of baseball (like not stealing a base/being aggressive on the basepaths when you’re up big).

The Giants’ manager is on record as approving of Pujols pitching so he clearly didn’t think the Cardinals were showboating.

    BrockLou,
    What showboating?

The circumstances in both games were quite similar:
    1. St Louis held commanding leads: 15-2 and 18-0
    2. Each opposing manager put a position player on the mound first thus tacitly conceding the game
    3. In both games St Louis responded by pitching a position player in the 9th but only AFTER their opponent did it first.

    what showboating?

From a Washington Post article on Marmol

St. Louis had to send former all-star shortstop Paul DeJong to Class AAA when his offensive struggles became too much for the lineup to absorb, though decisions like that are not in the hands of a manager.

    Agree 25.

I think it would have been far more unsportsmanlike to have sent one of our bullpen guys for the 9th after Kapler clearly conceded by having his left fielder pitch.

BTW, I missed that the Giants new pitcher in the 7th wasn’t a pitcher. Looked up when he threw that first 45 mph loopy pitch and said to my husband “Dang! Did that guy just throw an eephus pitch?” 😆

    Ny,
Your speculation is way off base, per published reports.

    1. Albert said Marmol was looking for volunteers to pitch the 9th (AFTER Kapler put his left fielder in to pitch in the last out in the 7th plus all of the 8th) and Albert volunteered.

    2. Kapler said it was fun and a good way to wash the taste of that nasty game out of their mouths.

They need to get this game over so Yadi, Albert and Waino can drink their prune juice and go to bed.

    Cranny,
    Voice choice is important.

Positive: “I think it’s great how well Thompson’s doing in the AFL, particularly after his challenging season at Memphis.” etc.

Negative: “Thompson certainly isn’t getting any respect on this board.”

The latter example isn’t actually about Thompson at all but about other posters on this board.

In any event the latter statement doesn’t appear as an invitation to a substantive, civilized discussion. I wouldn’t respond to that either whereas I would respond to the former.

What a lovely gesture by him.

I got frustrated by his lack of results in the latter part of his career, as did many. But I never doubted his effort, work ethic or will. He didn’t fill out the lineup card.

Talk about overperforming his draft projections. I can only imagine the melding of his heart with a far more gifted player who left so much potential on the table…yes, I’m still looking at you, Wusscakes!

MCarp sure didn’t leave anything on the table. Best to him in the future.

Sounds like the organization wants to get ahead of something. Who knows what.

Tried to tone it down Ny. Less successful than I might have been but not nearly as snarky as my first inclination.

That first inclination might have rivaled the late Joe Strauss.

I think the answer is We’ll see.

Not sure how anyone on this board would be able to give a definite answer.

It sure was an unpleasant season to recap four times/week. There’s only so many ways to say ‘This team stinks. They lost again.’
