With 4 shutout innings today, Pallante has put up good numbers in the AFL. Maybe he could get a shot at the 5th starters job.
Also, it is disappointing that not many Cards position players have been playing lately. Are there injuries?

I know that Gorman has been injured, but the others seem to be fine. Yepez and Nootbar have gotten regular PT, and Donovan played yesterday.

Zack Thompson reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield. He don’t get no respect. Especially among forum posters.

It will be interesting to see if Yepez, Nootbaar,Donovan, etc. can continue their torrid AFL play next season. I can see Yepez being the Cards DH next season. Nootbaar is carving a bigger role too possibly.

“Pez” has power. Seems to be getting better with each passing week. What stood out to me in that clip was the extremely sparse crowd. You could hear a pin drop from 100 feet out in that place. It just wouldn’t have been that way 30 years ago. I fear our youthful fans are going the way of the dinosaur.

Yepez reminds me of Allen Craig and that is very much a compliment. Craig was a difference maker before his injury.

That’s not a bad comparison. Craig was more of a late bloomer and probably a better contact hitter, with Yepez more age appropriate for his level and probably with better power potential. But I could see Yepez with a couple of .850+ OPS seasons at the DH/1B/LF spot.

After Dejong had a good year in the minors and then seemed to use the AFL perfromances to force his way to the big club, to me i think all 4 of these guys need to be considered pretty much locks for a big role next year

    Gorman, Yepez, Nootbaar, Donovan

put one at DH (probably Gorman to give every day ABs)
the other 3 on the bench
    add Knizner and Sosa/DeJong

Looks like the bench to me.

Maybe we bring back Rondon to start the year and let Donovan start at AAA, maybe another stays down for ABs (like Gorman) and we fill that with a journeyman 1 yr vet

To me the “every day roster” is probably set, as Moz said pretty blatantly

Sure they will look and listen a little, but at this point it seems unlikely they will give up on Dejong (pride for giving him the contract), trade any of these kids or the young pitchers (fear ala Randy A), or move Sosa (arrogance of his breakout)

We MIGHT get Max or a big money vet on 1-2yr deal…MAYBE a media loving Pujols signing to appease the masses…maybe a 1yr deal to a vet guy like D Peralta then a bunch of extensions and other things to fill the lack of spending void…

If the right trade falls into their laps? sure…but i doubt it…

DeJong to someone for a salary swap type deal or slightly better than lottery ticket…SEA? Maybe snag Haniger?
then find a way to trade for Ketel Marte from ARZ?
or maybe buy/trade low on Adelberto Mondesi from KC as Witt Jr looks to be the SS of the future and is ready now…Mondesi is a wizard in the field and adds unreal speed…but his injury prone nature is worrisome, but him and Sosa together makes for a good pair or excitement and defense. Maybe look to get Brad Keller too after a poor year though the year before was pretty good

    Max + Garcia + McF + Waino + Yadi

trade for Mondesi + BKeller…use some useful young arms and prospects

trade Dejong + parts to SEA for Haniger

Haniger and Mondesi for the offense

We have enough to make a couple of smart trades i think without losing the potential of the bench from above

I’d feel better with a veteran hitter like Haniger to give depth and protection from injury and also not force these kids who have great momentum from losing ABs on the bench

Mondesi is a wildcard, but i think worth the gamble at a position we are not so deep at
Keller is a pet project of interest for me i admit, but i do think there is something there for a better team to unnravel…and adding 2 arms really would help a rotation that is losing A LOT

No comments about Zach also making the All Star team? See, he don’t get no respect.

You do get on some interesting soapboxes. I am not sure what you are looking for, but his photo is the first one in this story (previously posted above) and he had his own section in the article, just like the other Fall Stars selections.

    P.S. And it is Zack with a “k”. 😉

Cardinals Have Four (or Five) AFL Fall Stars Game Representatives

Nothing like being judged re “soapboxes”, Brian. I thought we were free to express reasonable opinions without ridicule. I am simply touting Zack Thompson because he was put in a very challenging situation being promoted to AAA baseball after only 15 1/3 minor league innings. And seeing posters give him no respect. Then he makes the AFL All Star team, and no one seems to recognize that. People talk about all the other Cardinals AFL All Stars except for him. If touting a #19 overall draftee (who was lauded for his performance along with Libby at the Springfield camp in 2020) is getting on a soapbox, so be it. Your term, not mine.

    Cranny,
    Voice choice is important.

Positive: “I think it’s great how well Thompson’s doing in the AFL, particularly after his challenging season at Memphis.” etc.

Negative: “Thompson certainly isn’t getting any respect on this board.”

The latter example isn’t actually about Thompson at all but about other posters on this board.

In any event the latter statement doesn’t appear as an invitation to a substantive, civilized discussion. I wouldn’t respond to that either whereas I would respond to the former.

Certainly your choice, UConn. We all have choices.
