Maro posted this letter to St Louis and its fans yesterday. It’s too bad that his time here ended on such a down note, as he was a great Cardinal. One of my favorites. Thanks, Matt, and best of luck in everything baseball related as well as away from the sport.

What a lovely gesture by him.
I got frustrated by his lack of results in the latter part of his career, as did many. But I never doubted his effort, work ethic or will. He didn’t fill out the lineup card.
Talk about overperforming his draft projections. I can only imagine the melding of his heart with a far more gifted player who left so much potential on the table…yes, I’m still looking at you, Wusscakes!
MCarp sure didn’t leave anything on the table. Best to him in the future.
Does anybody know if he plans to pursue free agency? Any team(s) out there interested in his services?
I think he’s done, Rat. Coaching possibly? As a quick, but notable aside, this just hit the AP wire: Pedro Feliciano……Dead at the tender age of 45.
From what I have read Carp does plan to play next year. Now will he generate any interest? I could see him at least getting a spring training invite somewhere to see if he can make the team.
My best Carp memory will be the at bat in the pitch chart below versus Kershaw in the 3rd inning of the deciding Game 6 in the 2013 NLCS. Carp fouled off 8 pitches before stroking a double than began a 9-run onslaught to win the pennant. My son and I were fortunate to be attending that game. Carp owned Kershaw again in the 2014 playoffs.
When he was good, he was very good. And when bad, well… But he never gave up and was always ready to do whatever the team needed.
My most memorable thought on Carp was seeing him slam four doubles in a game out here against the Rockies. Kind of ironic in that Gomber started that one and I believe got the win.
I was with my old college roommate at that game and after Carp hit double number four I told him “that has to tie a record”.
