They are always close to the wild card. I just disagree with some of their processes and decisions. For example why not conduct a manager search? Interview a few people including Shildt. The result might have been the same that Shildt got the job. But what was the hurry? Why not talk to other candidates and see what they had to offer? I am not questioning the result just the process. Another question why extent Mikolas so soon? I get that it might have cost more money if he had another great season but was the risk of that higher than waiting in case he didn’t? Goldy’s extension made sense Mikolas didn’t.

You stated the above no mention of any bigger deal anywhere. Yet we were supposed to get that from that paragraph.
The point is Hamilton is not good. Bader is younger, better, and cheaper. Bader can run fast, is a plus defender, and has more power than Hamilton. I don’t understand what is the value Hamilton brings that you would even consider this trade. Baser OBP is .382 Hamilton’s is .302.
Ahh the good old argument that managers don’t pitch or hit. Excuses. Do your job manager and no excuses.

2. The Cubs ran into a little problem on their way to sweeping the Marlins by losing the first game.As of today I don’t see the rotation as anything but pedestrian. We do not have a starter with an era under 4. Except Ponce. It may be very good going forward but it is not a strength yet.
