Question of the day: Who gets the ax today when Carlos returns? Not sure if Leone has any options but since he is cheaper than Gregerson it may be either one of them. Cecil has seemingly disappeared from the radar but I am sure he is lurking back there somewhere just waiting to make his appearance at the most inopportune time.
Sure would like to see Helsly back up so maybe Gregerson AND Leone could be gone.
Carpenter needs to spend a week or so at Army artillery training. His launch angle is is need of adjustment and his ballistic trajectory is all screwed up. He was a consistent hitter until somebody introduced him to the launch angle BS.
CMart not impressive against AA hitters but the FO really played that down.
Ozuna changing agents from Boras to Yadi’ agent. Can you smell extension? Not possible with Bore-Ass who has an aversion to extensions – it affects his bottom line evidently.
“Shutout after one day after scoring double digits. Sounds about right.”
This is really getting to be a habit huh?Well Carp is now below Mendoza but he has promised to wake up, adjust his launch angle, improve his batters eye and fulfill his leadoff commitment. He was told last year that #1 is his for now and forever so no worries on that. But some fans are getting tired of seeing the pitcher and #1 bat and being unable to distinguish which is which with a bat.
Was Flaherty experimenting with some new pitch after getting that big lead? Some of those pitches had Yadi not been behind the plate would have been wild pitches.
Nothing new to complain about that game but I do have one major whine for Fox Sports Midwest. How in the heck do you get such lousy sound such as the background crowd noise. I remember it being that way in Atlanta last season too. Finally had to mute the thing to preserve sanity but unmuted several times only to hear that sound of a motorboat going over me when I am underwater. My son is a sound engineer and he says a third grader must have designed their system.
Speaking of FSMW it looks like we are stuck with Chatty Thompson for this road trip. Maybe muting it isn’t all that bad. He and Horton are having a race to see who has the least dead air time. I like a one man booth – they are easier on the old and crotchety folks of which I am one.

I promised to no longer comment on the thread I started but oh how I ache to do just that. Silence will be golden in this case. I need to return that half amulet. I need one of my own…….lol
This place ain’t pretty after a loss is it? But, for a newcomer like me, it does help serve as an identifier to the personalities of the posters. Lots of couch coaches – not something unusual on baseball boards – and even more fair weather fans.
I do have my complaints too but most of them require decisions above my pay grade. I try to remember when Waino last hit into a double play (or even had the opportunity). Maybe some of the stat lovers can fill me in. The man has a reputation for making big hits, not bunting. Unless it is a no out and gotta move a guy into scoring position I let Waino swing the bat.
I see Munoz fans and they can be right but his defense is still second rate so he is a bench player. Jed Gyorko has even lost his first up position off the bench for pinch hitting.
Off topic complaint: I truly hope the Blues do well (well I really don’t care) but I don’t have to hear all about them during a baseball game from two guys just prattling about nothing. I sure wish that FSM would make Edmonds the permanent color man. Pitchers may have a bit to offer but motormouth pitchers become boring. They never have heard of: “Silence is Golden” even if it is only for 4 seconds.
And those are my whines for today. GO CARDS (pretty please with sugar on it – I am never sure when Hudson takes the hill)
Bob Reed – you are really due for a total chill out. Maybe an extended alligator walkabout would be good for what ails you. Afterall this is a game, pure entertainment, something that is not designed to shorten your lifespan unless you allow it to. But then since you like the minors you may find some things even worse down there – guys doing their best to make the show but finding only achy breaky hearts in most cases. Anyway, this is my allocated one post for the day. Yep, I am also unhappy about last nights results but find that something good the next day always makes things better. Since that tornado passed through my neighborhood on April 30th and I was caught watching a Cardinals game until the front window caved in I tend to not take the small stuff seriously and baseball is defnitely small stuff in ones life.

My reputation is cemented as one who doesn’t care to be bombarded with stats each and every batter in each and every game. Name one other sport where stats are shoved down a viewers throat as they are in baseball. If you love them I am happy for you. For me I look at them as something that is just trying to form my expectations of what a particular player will do. I prefer to just watch the actual product instead of being told what that player HAS done in the past.
I realize that I am a minority here with relation to stats. I have a masters degree in industrial management and have been bombarded with stats in many other parts of my life so, for me, baseball is a chance to getaway but that is not happening lately. Sabremetrics are great for discussions with persons of a like persuasion. With that, I will take my lashing and no longer comment on the subject.
There are worse things in my life – having to listen to McLaughlin and McCarver (add Horton too) drives me nuts. I have come to the belief that they are all blind after the 3rd inning and find that it is great sport to entertain themselves with stories from 30-40 years ago while there is a game going on right in front of them. Rarely will they interrupt one of their stories midstream to describe a happening in the game such as a runner picked off or a hit batter. All shucks there I go again drifting off topic.
It appears we now have the A BP and the B BP. The B is inserted when we don’t care how many more runs are allowed. Can you name the two guys that inhabit the B BP?
I don’t know where to start but I know where it finished for me – at the end of the 6th inning I turned it off and went to watch a rerun of The Curse of Oak Island. That marks the first time I have ever turned off a Cards game no matter the score. But what I saw last night from a pitcher who couldn’t hit the side of a barn to an infield that looked like something out of a T-ball game it was enough to turn it off. Not surprised at the final score an am glad to see Shildt didn’t waste any good BP arms in the effort.
Soooooo there are days like that and now that its over lets get this train back on the tracks – 4 more home games to bring back the fans. The errors are just inevitable but I don’t believe Hudson is the pitcher who should have been on the starting rotation – Gant has shown that in spades but has now made himself too valuable to the BP. Maybe Carlos can help if he ever comes back.
But there is one good thing – they managed to stuff all those awful performances into one game and not spread them out like they did all last season. GO CARDS -(please)
I hope that if ONeil homers for the next 10 or 12 games in AAA he continues to homer in AAA because he has developed into a homer or nothing guy. For a short period he talked of lessening his SOs and actually did so but Hercules is back to being Hercules or nothing. I do wish him all the best in his career but he does have a major loophole to conquer before he will be a consistent MLB player. Then again, I have been known to be wrong – imagine that.
Maloney/Baloney- Warner/Corner – memory for this old fart is a fleeting thing.
Shildty is probably thinking he goes a pitch too far with his guys lately – Wacha and the meat ball to Davis (is he really Crash Davis?) and Leone with his meatball to another Cubs cruncher.
How oh how do we get to fatten up the bullpen’s runs scored record – Gregerson and Leone seem to be the answer. Overheard – McCarver speaking to Gregerson after the game: “Son this is the BIG LEAGUES not those A, AA, AAA kids you been impressing.”
ESPN – Lets don’t go there. But they did try to put some medicine on the wounds when the outcome was no longer in doubt and every Cub had been lauded.
The Cubs are a team to be reckoned with. Let’s see how it works out at Busch.
I haven’t read all the posts to this thread but I have not seen mention of the first inning ‘run on contact’ play in which the catcher sat down and had a cup of coffee before the arrival of Matt Carpenter attempting to score on a bouncer to 3B. Was this a Carp decision or a Maloney shout out or just a blind run on contact decision. In any case it cost us a run and that run sure loomed large at the end. I don’t know if your can say everything that followed the play would have been the same but I do believe that the run would have scored before the inning was over. And that is all I have to say about Game 33. But now that McCarver is gone I hold little hope that the Game 34 ESPN folks will be any better.
Notice I never mentioned McCarver. He is unmentionable. He and Danny are sharing a room.
I enjoyed the game and was surprised that the offense was backing up Wacha as much as they did but some days you are the gold mine and others the shaft and Shildty found that out with his walk to Swarber to get an easy out with a seldom used catcher who swings at anything — Wacha gave him a fat one.
Goldy is my favorite but what is it with the strikeouts? Jose had a chance to pull us even but the HPU screwed up royally on that time out. When a batter has his hand up and the bat on the ground one would think a time out is in order. That blew Jose’s mind and, as he admitted, affected his concentration for the whole bat.
When is Jen Langosh going to leave? All she is doing is writing puff pieces on certain players – deserved but surely not game summaries. Yesterday it was JMart’s turn but she never mentioned the grand slam or a lot of other plays. She is definitely phoning it in. The guy named Ian Quillen who has written several game summaries lately is not bad.
For those who bemoan the record of the Cards in Wrigley, was it not last season or 2017 that they swept the Cubs at Wrigley in a 3 game series? At least they are now being furnished a dressing room instead of having to dress on the bus…..lol.
A good Sunday to all and may the Cards win on ESPN – not usually their best appearances.
Pugs, we lived in North and South Dakota for 35 years and actually enjoyed the blizzards. If we were a tad younger I would go back. Tornadoes are for the birds (not the Cards). Here is a little YouTube view of the neighborhood:
I am convinced that he does no preparation. His favorite saying is “I didn’t know that.” He is quick to criticize any Cardinal player that he thinks has screwed up and many of his criticisms are borderline ridiculous. To me he is just an old loud mouth that is being given air time he doesn’t deserve but I know that others think he walks on water. That is the way it is on baseball boards on a lot of subjects.
Re the comments about Hendricks. In this age of high speed pitchers the low speed guys tend to do well. Sort of speeds between batting practice and changeups. Hendricks has his bad days but the Cards are more attuned to fast ball pitchers as are many other teams. Take the next two and I will be happy.
McCarver: “There is a lot of blue in the stands today just like you see a lot of red in the stands at Busch” That was not an exact quote but close – I think he was a bit mixed up. He was trying to imply that visiting teams in this rivalry have fans that travel well.
I found out Tuesday night while watching the Cardinals/Nats game that watching the Cardinals can be hazardous to your health. Along about the 7th inning of that game I got a phone weather warning of a tornado in our area and advisement to take cover. Over the next two minutes the following occurred: Lost all power, heard hail on roof, heard the infamous ‘freight train’, the front window of the house blew inward spreading glass all over the inside, and then it was all quiet.
To say we were lucky would be underestimating it. We have a steel tornado shelter in our garage but never had a chance to use it. We lost a huge tree in our front yard but it did not hit the house – I think it actually protected the house. We lost numerous shingles and had many ceiling leaks as it was raining hard at the time. We and most neighbors lost all of our wooden fencing BUT we are the only people who still occupy our home – with the company of 12 industrial size fans and 2 dehumifiers to dry out the wet spots. Two homes across the street and two homes next to us and behind us were totally destroyed. Many many others received everything from moderate to severe damage. Found out that the weather service classifies this one as an EF-2 – Winds over 110 mph. There were 9 tornadoes in SW Missouri Tuesday night and it has rained every day since and is forecast to keep raining for the next few days also. But I will say the response of volunteers has been fantastic. Convoy of Hope was on the scene within 30 minutes after it struck and checking on us and saying they would be here in the morning to cut up our tree – which they did. Our insurance company of 58 years proved to us why we keep them – one call about an hour after the tornado and restoration contractor on the scene by 9 am the next morning. That company will take care of everything subcontracting things they cannot handle.
Okay, okay it is a baseball thread so let me say that I shut off the fans to watch the Cardinals games on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday but was fast asleep during most of Fridays game – those fans sound like a constant tornado. It will be interesting to see who goes down when Gregerson is brought up today. I am thinking maybe ONeil to get some batting practice but it could be Munoz too. Maybe a pitcher but the sked is pretty demanding for the next few weeks so the BP has to be kept stocked. Anyway, glad to still be here to support the Cards but will pay closer attention to the weather in the future – Cards games can be hazardous to ones health……lol BTW – I live in Ozark, Mo.
ONeil is the obvious choice to go down when Gregerson comes up (today?). The guy looks like a Herculean windmill at the plate. He is the living proof that even a blind squirrel can find an acorn some time. Fowler should be ready for this weekend. JMart and his bench routine talking to Fowler on camera last night was better than watching a comedy act. Who needs words – facial expressions are good enough.
