Hudson is due to pitch a better game. I can’t recall 2 4 game sweeps in a season before.

Yeah which is why this might not happen but if it does it sets up a nice weekend in Chitown. Cubs did sweep Seattle who was bound to come down from it’s hot start.

Did Fowler have the Wednesday night off, or is he dinged up?

After that debacle against the Reds, the Cards pitching has given up 11 runs in 5 games.

    He has the flu, supposedly.

It is going well with the club right now. I am very impressed with DeJong. He is quickly maturing into a great player – much better at this point than I thought he would be, and is probably the early MVP of the club.

Then you have a bullpen that is doing the job night in and night out. I am not sure I even want Gregerson on the roster. The only way he may fit is if Hudson has a bad outing today, you may want to send him down for a couple of months and put Gant in the rotation. Or go with 13 pitchers, which I personally hate but it is an option. Might send O’Neill down so he can get regular ABs at Memphis. JMart is passable in right, and hits everything thrown to him.

You wonder why the Royals never gave JMart a shot as a DH?

According to the Post-Dispatch Fowler does have the flu along with the rest of his family. He’s being given fluids because he was apparently getting dehydrated.

I agree that JMart’s defense is passable. But that’s mainly because his hitting keeps people from thinking so much about his mistakes in the field. He looks really clumsy at times in the field. If his manager and coaches had sent him up to the Royals, and if he then would have made one of his clumsy mistakes, the manager and coaches would have had to dodge some rotten apples.

The key thing for JMart is if the NL gets the DH.

By the time the NL gets the DH, Matt Carpenter might have dislodged Jmart from the DH spot. That is, if Marp can ever get going again. Eventually, we are going to need some contribution from our leadoff hitter.

The Cards are obviously on a roll. What is so impressive is that we have so many different ways to win games and don’t rely on just a couple of players. It is a good thing too because it looks like the Cubs are getting on a roll also. I doubt if we can pull away from them. This weekend should be fun and as expected the NLC will be a dogfight.

As a side note, I wonder if JMart could come close to hitting .400? He is at .375 right now and still rising. George Brett was the last threat to do it when he hit .390 in 1980.

On the batting .400 idea, Martinez is like most players – running hot and cold.

For example, last August, he batted .389 while the Cardinals were surging. The month immediately before, he batted just .262 and the month after, as the Cards slumped in September, .266.

So far, the 2019 team has had different players heating up at different times, which is good for the bottom line win total.

That lineup is going to send chills up and down Strasburg..:)

I will be tuning in to this one as soon as I get back from the Gasthof, the amish restaurant. I’ll have my after dinner cigar going along with my old buddy Whitey Herdog on my couch with me.

p.s. the announcers called a lineup like this today.

Strange lineup, indeed. Carp hitting 3rd? NOt liking that. Maybe it will wake him up.

I thought this game started at 3 ET, which I was excited about. I have to leave at 6 for a church function, so I was looking forward to seeing most of the game. Instead, it’s at 3 CT, 4 ET so I’ll see maybe 5-6 innings and look at the game thread after I’m out to see if the Birds completed the sweep!

Oh no this would be so very very sad if this one got washed out and we missed Strasburg……I’m not really sure if I’d be able to sleep tonight with all of the misery and torment.

P.S. Hey Rat. You may want to refrain from telling your “balls” and strikes” joke at that Amish restaurant you’re frequenting tonight.

    Hey Pugs,
Not to worry. I behaved around the amish gals. One even smiled at me. When she brings my sweet tea out to my table I always look at my watch, kind of throw my hands up, as if she’s way late. She usually tells me to shut up.

And I got home at 3:55, plenty of time to moisten a Palma Real Presidente cigar for the 2nd inning. And just my luck, its a rain delay.

So I went to practice on my guitar. Whitey Herdog came and listened.

For those who may not know, Rat and Whitey go way back. Two peas in a pod! Except Whitey knows a tiny bit more about this great game than Rat. A Real Presidente stoggie is a very sweet choice, Rat! Hey Rat, the only reason that little filly at the Amish restaurant is smiling at you is to hopefully secure one whale of a tip out of you….she sure is barking up the wrong tree there! I wish they’d get this game going……even if we do have to square off vs Strasburg.

I thought that this game would be a 1 pm start on the east coast. Do the Nats play 4pm games on Thursday’s? it’s an odd scheduled game time with us playing tomorrow afternoon in Chicago and the weather is making it worse.
