Or dagnabit….or something along those lines…
Maybe they are waiting for some team to be desperate enough to up their offer big enough for Harper and such…
December 13, 2018 at 9:05 pm in reply to: What is wrong with Dexter Fowler and what should be done? #77435Looks like the fo isn’t going to do anything and already trying to do the spin for next season that nobody is buying now and hasn’t bought in the last several years…Mo and Girsch need to be shown the door sooner rather than later…
If we moved him for prospects I wonder if they’ll be the prospects that people fully expect to play in the majors one day or if they’re prospects that are big maybe’s…or just for insurance for the minors…
Maybe Mo and Girsch know or feel that if we miss the playoffs again they’ll be out of work…
Brian, I know that Goldy isn’t the only player that we’re going to get I just meant that he’s the big ticket item and the rest of the guys that we’ll get are more pieces of the puzzle rather than really impact players like he is, acquired to play much smaller roles…
I’m not in the Harper or bust camp it’s just that we seem to be employing the same strategy that we’ve used the last few years to get the one big player and hope that he fixes everything…if not…Goldschmidt should be the first step, not the only one…
Guess this all means that the FO is done trying to make the team better and now resorted to filling holes and tinkering to bet everything on Goldschmidt leading us back to the playoffs, so more lather rinse repeat sadly…
I wonder if getting Goldschmidt means that we won’t even try for Arenado or whatever his name is from Colorado since we have the young guy coming up through the ranks that plays 3B, as then if we’d want to keep Goldschmidt around after next year then we wouldn’t have anywhere to put the guy in the minors when he’s ready for the majors unless that’s a few years away…
I doubted that we would get Harper I just don’t want Goldy to be our only non pitching change that we make…
Some are upset because we fear that like the last few seasons we make one free agent signing or trade and then expect that one player to change everything and it’s the only big move that we make, pinning all of our hopes on one signing/trade…last few years we’ve had a bad track record with that…
The fear is that next offseason they’ll do the same thing, try lightly for some of those free agents but then miss out on all of them and just get some guys to fill the roster as usual…hopefully Goldschmidt works out better than Ozuna did…as now we’re back to adding a few pieces and hoping we strike gold with them and then being stuck with them when they don’t…
So then we miss the playoffs for a 4th straight year…yay…more of the same sadly…
I wonder if we would trade for Greinke with the understanding that then we would trade him to a third team, do a three team deal so that everybody gets something…
November 2, 2018 at 9:44 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #73790The last thing that I’d want to do is overpay Donaldson for like 2 years before the guy in the minors is moved up to play 3rd, he’s to old and to injury prone and wanting to much $ for a temporary fill in type of role, we could probably find somebody almost as good for like half the price or less if that’s all that we need him for…
Or go after Arenado or whatever from Colorado and then the guy in the minor leagues could play 3rd or 1st or the two could play both…
November 2, 2018 at 4:22 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #73777Dodgers and Kershaw, 3 years 93 Million deal so he’s out…not that we were trying to trade for him or anything but it could affect any deal that we try to make with a FA or a trade methinks…
I don’t think that I’d put everything on Bader and O’Neil just yet, I’d have them spend the whole year in the MLB level first and see if they can keep it up before banking our future on them…
So then is he going to be ready for the season or is he now a lost cause for us…
October 29, 2018 at 2:37 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #73484Probably because injuries are starting to mount for him and the numbers are down along as well…and the injuries in Onyxgem’s mind won’t go away…
I’m watching a bit of the games but as neither team really has any interest for me I’d much rather talk about trades once they can actually happen and such, as we can speculate till we’re all blue in the face and all…guess I’ll have to watch Yellowbeard for now…and try not to laugh to hard…stagger, stagger, roll, roll…
I’m almost hoping for a sweep just so that we can get to the trades and such…
I don’t say that we HAVE to sign a big FA, I just don’t think that we should ignore them altogether or think that trading is the only way to go, and so far we’ve seen some trades that didn’t go so well recently along with some FA signing’s that went bad as well, though all FA’s aren’t the same…
So no I’m not saying that we HAVE to sign Machado or Harper, just that they shouldn’t be ignored either and that our FO has a habit of not really trying to really better the team all that much, but rather hoping that they strike gold again with players and such…and 3 straight years of missing the playoffs and such will make one a big pessimistic, especially given how little the FO has done over the last few offseasons…there’s always additions but most lately haven’t done very well at all…
So then another year of making a trade for some guy that the fo will then say will solve all our problems and is just as good as the big free agents or close to it…all before we get another Ozuna type situation…we need to do both free agents and trades…
Well I’d guess Molina and Wainwright for starters…
I was more upset that didn’t we know that he had a problem with his shoulder and traded for him anyway, if so then it is Mo’s problem…
Sounds like Mo is trying to cover up his own mistake and blame anything bad that happens from here on out all on Ozuna…leaving himself blameless…
