We’re down 4-0 in the 4th after the Diamondbacks hit a grand slam…
He’s having a down year but he’s pitched better in the past…
Top of the 5th and we’re up 7 to 4…
The thing about looking long term and waiting till the end of the season is basically like admitting that they have no problem with playing poorly and then at the end of the season we’ll make some stupid little trade, they’ll play it up, maybe a nobody free agent…then next season we’ll be right back where we are now, with our ceiling being just making the playoffs…we’re only in the race at all now because the other teams in the division aren’t playing too good, if this was last year we’d be like 20 games back…
Maybe it’s an attempt to figure out what we have in him and whether to then trade him or not, or just because of the injury…
Don’t jinx it…
Guess that we’re not going to trade anybody before tonight’s game…hope Leake pitches well…
Then DeJong and Schwarber hit solo shots and now tied 3-3…
We finally get a hit and it’s Wainwright…
Scoreless through 4 and we haven’t got a hit yet…
Up to 9 to 3 with bases loaded and still nobody out…
The question then becomes who would we want for him, I don’t know enough about the Royals to know who we’d want back…
Then we give up a pinch hit home run and the game is tied going into the bottom of the 9th with the Mets up…
We’re not even out of the 1st inning and already down 2-0…not good…
Wacha pitches the whole game and gets the win with a shutout…
Well Wacha’s got through 8 innings with only 2 hits…just one more inning…
Well Lyons brought it home and we won 4-0…
I would at the very least kick the tires on a trade like this, as long as they didn’t want a terrible amount I’d go for it and if not him then Trout, otherwise it’d just be the front office trying to make a trade just to make one…
Almost scared to see what the team does now since it needs 2 outfielders, we could call guys up and all but still fear that we’ll overpay for replacements until they’re both back…
Or maybe the DL stint is just a way to keep him from getting hurt before the trade deadline…okay probably not but still…
So we trade for Stanton, then if we think that he’s going to opt out trade him for as much as we can get for him or something along those lines…or just go after Trout instead…
So far we’ve done nothing at all, just waiting for Mo to call Wong and Siegrist returning like a trade…before they’re both hurt like two weeks later and done for the years…
There’s an article on the Scout MLB homepage that gives a couple of trade ideas, one is for Donaldson to the Cardinals for RHP Reyes, SS Perez, and RHP Alcantra…I almost broke out laughing at how absurd that idea was…
July 9, 2017 at 10:04 pm in reply to: Joel Sherman Suggests the Cardinals Should Trade Carlos Martinez #27158I’m not sure that I’d say that I’d never trade him…though I wouldn’t trade him for just anybody…and we’d have to hope that a certain pitcher comes back strong from Tommy Jon surgery…now if we got a big haul…I’d at least give it a bit of thought…
Not a Cardinals note but watching the Cubs game, only because I live close enough to their AAA team, anyway Lester is pitching and he just got taken out after a 52 pitch 1st inning, with the Cubs down 10 to nothing…
Anyway hope Lynn pitches well…
