Having not read the rest of the thread this has probably already been gone over.
I think what the cardinals do at catcher this year will be very telling what they think of Ivan Herrera. If they go for a long term answer then that says it all.
Personally I believe the best option would be to bring in Vasquez on a reasonable maybe 3 year deal and keep the trade powder dry for an ace level starting pitcher or another bat.
I think the cards should do whatever they can to load up for 2022 and beyond when the next wave of young talent is expected to arrive. That probably means sticking to what we have for 2021 and in effect punting on this upcoming season. Should then be sellers at the deadline, Mikolas and Miller would be candidates to be moved if pitching decent. Fowler and Carpenter could both be candidates as well if they are hitting at all, with both having expiring contracts they might be attractive rentals.
Once fowler is off the books, I was thinking carlson projected to be in right if memory serves me correctly. I think the hope would be O’neil comes on and takes the left field job, Bader holds down center, and Carlson in right from 2022 forward.
I have been bouncing from one streaming source to the next chasing fsmw with the package of other channels I want. It appears I am out of choices now without being right back up to satellite prices so I’ve given up now. This is bound to hurt the teams if nobody is willing to pay the price for rsn programming.

I have had the same thoughts about flaherty. I’m sure it wouldn’t be a popular opinion around here but I would be listening to offers on him. If you can get a kings ransom then deal him.
I came on here looking for a contract/service time answer in the event of no mlb season and it looks like I got one. Unfortunately we can’t have our cake and eat it too, we don’t want to give up service time with young players, but on the other hand we want the bad contracts on aging players to go ahead and advance a year so we can get out from under them as regularly scheduled.
I just don’t see the reason to bring in arenado other than for win now. If we are as loaded as we think we are at 3rd in the minors then we might as well take our chances again with carpenter this year and if he blows again then maybe you look at a 2-3 year rental to fill the gap until some of the youngsters are ready. I see no need to add a long term, huge dollar contract at that position.
I don’t know who I want fired but someone is going to have to take the fall for the total failure of our offense.
I’m with minuteman3, I would not start carp when he comes back. He hasn’t been right all year, I don’t understand the rush to bring him back on Friday. He needs to spend more than 3 days on a rehab assignment and attempt to get his bat going somewhere besides the big club.
Everyone here was saying luke weaver was worthless towards the end of the season, it was obvious carson kelly was never going to play for the cardinals since yadi doesnt take time off and knizner is hot on kelly’s heels anyway. I’m ok with this deal, we get the bat we need and hopefully we can sign him long term.
I think we all agree that cmart is not an ace. He’s a very good number 2 but not an ace. If bumgarner is truly available then I think the cardinals should be in on him. A 1-2 punch of Bumgarner and Cmart would be tough to beat. Follow that by signing Mustakas and some bullpen help. No that doesn’t get us the starpower in the lineup but I think that makes us a better more balanced team with gyorko going back to being a super sub.
If the cards have to take greinke to get goldschmidt maybe that would be a place to get rid of fowler. Assuming both greinke and fowler would wave their ntc.
I know it’s dreaming but if we could land Harper, maybe Iglesias at SS(moving dejong to 3B), unload Jmart and fowler, and shore up the back end of our bullpen all while hanging onto our young pitching, I think that’s a huge win. That haul would make us the favorites in the NL central again if not the entire NL.
I think the cards have to find an ace. Don’t know if that comes from within or outside the organization. We need to get back to having that one pitcher who will have you in position to win every 5th day no matter who’s on the mound for the opposing team. We have not had that since the demise of wainwright. Also need a closer, I would seriously think about bringing back rosenthal if he’s healthy. Obviously the roster still needs some shuffling, would be nice to find a team who wants jmart as a dh.
I have a slightly different opinion of him after attending the game in cincy last monday. During BP he had the most interaction with the fans by far, tossed multiple balls to kids. I definitely see him as less of a punk after that and am willing to reserve judgement until he gets fully healthy again. After all he was pretty dominant early in the year before he got hurt.
Pham was easily replaceable, so I like this deal. Getting something for him rather than let him walk for nothing later on.
Agree to disagree. I’m not giving up Oneill for anything at this point. Looks like we just sent pham to the rays so I’d say a deal for archer is not happening or it would have happened in the pham deal.
Trading Oneill and Kelly for archer makes no sense at all. We have plenty of starting pitching, so much that we are sending arms to the bullpen. Power bats are what we lack, and there’s no reason to make a trade for this year when we are basically out of contention.
I don’t think I’m alone in saying I’m tired of the all or nothing approach on offense. I’d like to see the front office take a royals world series team approach to it. Focus on defense and speed, steal some bases. That probably means somewhat of a youth movement. Need to dump fowler somehow. Trade jmart to the AL. Acquire a defense and speed first SS and move Dejong to 3B. Bader needs to start everyday in center and bring up Oneil to take fowlers place. Also believe they need to get ozuna’s shoulder looked at because he’s obviously noodle armed right now and I’d wager it’s effecting his offense.
That lineup to be would then look like this:
1B Carpenter
2B Wong
SS Defense first replacement
3B Dejong
C Yadi
LF Pham
CF Bader
RF OneilTo me that would be much more entertaining to watch on defense and on the bases while still maintaining some amount of pop.
I think it has to be time for a youth movement the rest of the way this year. At least playing the youngsters would be entertaining, because of their hustle. Our vets seem to have a lack of hustle. I would move norris, and jmart for whatever I could get. Look to salary dump fowler if at all possible(august I’m guessing). Get ozuna’s shoulder checked out. That would make room for bader and possibly oneil to play everyday.

I know I wont get anywhere with you as I’ve seen your previous posts but, It’s the manager and coaches responsibility to teach and effect change in fundamentals correct? That is obviously not improving. I know you’re probably going to say the players should already know the fundamentals by the time they reach this level and you’re not wrong. In my eyes it’s the managers job to make sure the players aren’t getting sloppy.
It probably is time to move on. Matheny will not stand up to yadi and we need a manager who will. If carson kelly is going to be the heir apparent at catcher then he needs playing time and yadi needs to rest in order to stay fresh. As was mentioned in the article the fundamentals have done nothing but get worse in his tenure and that needs to be corrected.
I would focus on a power bat at 1B. Deal carpenter for late inning relief help or prospects and then clear some of the log jam in the outfield. I don’t know who’s out there at 1B, would be nice to find someone who maybe is not a full time starter yet but is ready to be. Ideal situation would be a team with extra first basemen who need an outfielder.
