Boy, would it be nice to get the sweep before heading home and be tied with the Scrubs. Mikolas has been up and down…but could really help the team with a long, shutdown outing. A few more home runs by the offense would be nice too. 😁
Hmmmm, no Molina, no MCarp, no Ozuna, late comer Bader, young guns firing, Edman the Great, hellzapoppin. Do ya think? Oh wait, it was only a dream. Molina, Carp and Ozuna will soon return to their places of honor and 3rd place in the NLC. Maybe we will be facing better opposition in the next few games but if you don’t win those you should it would not matter how you do against the ‘big boys.’
I would like to know how the TCN population feels about starting MCarp Friday? I say play the hot hand and Edman/Munoz are defintely the hot hands. No hits for Carp on day one of rehab. How did he do last night?
Edman and Munoz are performing better than Carp did. We have momentum. We don’t need for Ks to kill it.

Would you believe that Edman and Munoz are both slightly below average hitters by both Fangraphs and BB Reference? While I think they both provide some extra value over Marp with the glove and on the bases, and I am more than fine with them continuing to start…when Carpenter comes back (and hopefully he does so with a reasonably fixed swing), he should get the most of the starts. Edman 2B and Munoz 3B maybe against lefties.
My current hope is that Marp stays in Memphis until he figures it out and whenever that is and his body feels right, then he comes back to lead a revitalized offense.
Fun game for us last night! Mikolas had a really good outing last time he pitched, away game too! Just keep imagining you’re pitching at home. St Louis really isn’t that far away! We’ve roughed up Musgrove before, maybe we can do it again. Just remember gotta keep it focused today and keep it tight. They definitely are not going to give it to you! As far as injured players returning right now , things are clicking, I wouldn’t change a whole lot right now and see how it goes, Go Cardinals. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?
I’m with minuteman3, I would not start carp when he comes back. He hasn’t been right all year, I don’t understand the rush to bring him back on Friday. He needs to spend more than 3 days on a rehab assignment and attempt to get his bat going somewhere besides the big club.
Pretty much the same lineup save for Wieters starting and Munoz moving down to 8th.

I’m with minuteman3, I would not start carp when he comes back. He hasn’t been right all year, I don’t understand the rush to bring him back on Friday. He needs to spend more than 3 days on a rehab assignment and attempt to get his bat going somewhere besides the big club.
While I agree that Carp should spend more time in Memphis rather than coming back Friday, I also see the bigger picture as one of overall value. The question I ask is…are Edman or Munoz players of championship quality when you’ve already got Wong, Fowler/Martinez and possibly Bader who are all one dimensional and/or limited already in the lineup?
I think you can live with a player or two who are very good at something and mediocre at the other stuff so long as you’ve got a very solid rest of lineup. As mentioned above, despite their good play of late both Edman and Munoz rate as average players. That’s a plus compared to Carp’s play so far, but it underrates what a right Carp provides. Maybe the Cards could make the playoffs as a Wild Card with Carpenter playing little to no role, but for my money they won’t win the NL Central and certainly aren’t a World Series contender without Carp (or a player of his caliber) having a significant impact.
So you either have to trade for a star, expect Edman and Munoz to perform far better than they ever have, or gamble on Carp. I’m still in the last boat. I understand that it’s not popular with fans who forget how good he was just 11 months ago, but it’s probably the most likely scenario as well. One thing I would do is move him down in the lineup for a little time when he comes back. Fowler or Edman (if he starts for Wong) are adequate leading off until Carp gets on track.
stlcard25 – Are you sure your real identity is not John Mozeliak? Mo is counting up that 40 million and perhaps Mr Dewitt is telling him that money doesn’t sit on a bench – and I have no doubt that they will play him. But the name of the game is win and that is exactly what is happening. In my view, what Carp provides he has only provided for about two months in 2018. To term any of these players as ‘mediocre at the other stuff’ is way off the mark but, as I have been told many times, everybody here is entitled to their opinion. Yours is interesting to say the least but I am not one who says you have to have veterans to win at anything. For example I hate to see’veterans’ just ambling down to first base on a ball they assume is an automatic out. Several of our non-veterans have beat out double plays many times this season. We have the speed and we have the youth so I hope that the powers that be will see fit to use it. Yes, we need veterans but they still have to prove their ability to excel and outplay their competition.
I guess Carp is getting one more rehab game tonight? In his first two rehab games, he has 7 plate appearances with no hits, one walk, 3 strikeouts, 1 run, 0 RBIs, and 4 left on base. Clearly he’s not a good bet to help the team win right now. Considering the streak they’re on, it would be malpractice to insert him in the starting lineup, especially the leadoff spot, on Friday.
The team is in a great rhythm now, no reason to shoot themselves in the foot when things are going great. Ease him back in. Let him come off the bench in situations that make sense and to see if he can get it going again.
I say we live or die with the youngsters and keep Carp in Memphis until he shows some real sign of having found himself.
For my part, I’m going with mussels, French fries and a salad, finishing with vanilla ice cream and raspberries.Lunch today is sausage in the deep fryer with some ketchup/mustard, a couple of ears of corn, some bar-b-q chips, a piece of chocolate cream pie from the Amish restaurant, and a Klondike ice cream bar. Watch the first inning of the game and then I have to go mow. Then do some trimming. Then wash the BMW. Then jog a little.

How could we possibly bring him back if he cant get hits off minor leaguers (like he hasn’t done in 2 games)
we are playing pretty well right now, and introducing and forcing change into that seems a mistake. If Carp was tearing the cover off at AAA that is different, but just because he spends a couple days in the minors doesnt mean he should come back…he should have to prove he can hit….or at least wait until Edman and Munoz slump terribly
The Pirates radio announcers are discussing Munoz and his steals last night again. I guess the Pirates catcher was upset. Perhaps he should have cared more to prevent Munoz from getting such easy bases.
