They already have a .500ish team, and I think the objective, as far as the ML roster goes, is to have a .500ish team again next year, while shaving a bit off the payroll. Our Bill has probably learned it is pointless trying to put a true contender out there unless and until the pipeline and upper levels of the system can support it. So there will be some shuffling to save money without tanking on the ML roster, and some hole filling on the AA and AAA roster like we have seen in recent years. Meanwhile, the PD system will be undergoing renovations, and hopefully the FO will too. When we see less filler on the AA and AAA rosters we will know we are getting somewhere.

He sort of had a defensive replacement already in Siani. The other option was Noot. Who is passable in CF.

Well, that answers the question of who would play CF if they trade Scott. The same guys who played it when they traded Edman.

In regards to Donovan I could see a contending team offering a prospect or two who had potential to be an all star someday but why would would they offer up a current all star if they are trying to win this year?

Donnys value isn’t some massive haul. The two examples above are about comparable value. Another clubs reasoning for trading? Their business.

I’ve wanted Mick Abel since the draft he was in. Send Helsey and Maton for Abel and a class A lottery ticket and I’ll be happy.

I think Arizona will beat us to the punch on Abel, Mr. Perkins…….hey, nice to see you back riding high in the Cardinal Nation saddle, Mr. P.! How old is your little girl now.

Gorman won’t bring much right now since he’s on the DL with back issues.

Judge to IR list with elbow “flexor tendon” issue. Yankees likely looking for bats?

Haven’t been a huge Spencer Jones fan, despite his prospect ranking. He struck out over 200 at AA last year. This year though, K’s down and power, BA, SLG WAY up even at AAA. Donnie for him and a their 2nd/3rd pitching prospect and maybe a lottery ticket type, (Francisco Vilorio 18 year old OF out of the DR.)?

Sorry if I come off a a pessimist, but I see this as at LEAST 27 before this is fixed. To me, Donny and Burly great as your 4th 5th best offensive player. Not as top of the roster pieces.

Out of Herrera, Burly, Donovan, I would least like to trade Donovan. He has the most value defensively. His value is the highest of that trio, but Herrera would actually probably fetch a decent return and Burly may as well.

I realistically don’t see any hitters being traded though

Fermin could have sneeky value in a multi-player trade package. He checks some boxes if a club is short a utility player, and has hit since being called up. He’s in a good buy point, even if viewed as a rental.

Fixed as in how? Rebuild and get to a point where we might be 10 games under .500 in 27? I thought Weatherholt was the next great moto bat? If he develops into that then Donnie and Burly don’t need to be top end pieces especially with Herrera possibly emerging.

The attendance is middling enough and this fanbase has shown that it half asses for a team in a wild card chase. What do you think some of these fair weathers will do if they full on sell? 2023 deadline was a perfect example of what happened.

Not having a replacement CF ready to go didn’t stop Mo from moving Edman.

Yeah… thanks Mo. Good job… you’ve already trashed what you got for him. This is the type of move that has us where we are. His managing of the organization is borderline criminal.

The fair-weathers always come back 858. What will it take to get them back? More of the same? Of course not, obviously.

So trade back, build a depth based roster than can pitch. It will take time, especially for anyone without adequate funds, which may be key.

But, there’s also an urgency which makes the pitching staff the priority. Gray may not be here in 2027, and many rotation IP are headed out the door this winter.

If the APPROACH to “sell” involves acquiring long term pitching going forward, I’ll wait them out. Blooms results are on him and the players.

Taking Liby as an example, this is his 6th year in the system, so it will be a long wait.

Bling, the 6 year example to develope for Liberatore is assuming the development system remains the same as the last 6 years. I would rather believe that it will change and be less time. Bloom has been a part of the Rays, Red Sox and Cubs. All 3 have had good minor league systems during his time and after he left.

Remember that Liberatore was a high schooler so three of those development years equated to college.

Haha…He had those white wire things plugged into his ears that left me with the impression he was listening to Billy Jr. telling him to count the number of empty seats.

I hope the Cardinals don’t trade expiring contracts for anything less than quality returns. We don’t need lottery tickets or marginal players. We need difference makers.
