Mo clearly was for quantity over quality. Relying on the Cardinal’s past history of uncovering hidden gems. No place for them to hide now days with the tech that ha emerged in scouting.

It appears that Bloom is more of a quality over quantity guy which has clearly been demonstrated in trades and the international program.

Therfore I expect the Cardinals to go for the highest cieling guy available when our turn comes up. Even a high school pitcher. He will have to go for some low cost guys to allow them to sign the highercieling guys.

It would be interesting to analyse Blooms years with the Rays and Red Sox to get a sense of what he may do.

This! Especially in the international market. We have x million to spend, lets sign as many low cost players and pray.

I still think drafting high school players for that one lucky draw is kind of like buying a mystery box hoping honus wagners rookie card is in there.

I just showed that there are 16 of the top 60 players in MLB right now that are high school signs, and another 18 came through the international market. Neither is that much of a rarity. Like anything, getting talent into your system early can be a boon if you know what to do with it.

I’m on the same page as 25. To find elite position players, you often have to get them out of high school since the players so talented often never make it to college. Many do improve on college and show they have good upside as well though but beyond the top, most college guys are lower ceiling higher floor. I don’t want to draft a guy to just make the bigs but instead someone who can be an impact player.

I generally don’t have concerns drafting either high school or college for position players and just base it purely off talent. For pitchers, I am full on board with 25’s data that college P are the way to go and steer clear of high school pitchers like the plague. Pitchers in general are risky but also much more unpredictable. It just takes a few adjustments for a guy who was just ehh to suddenly be an ace level.

I think there are cant miss players in high school that it makes sense to draft but those tend to be higher picks. The far larger number of high school picks never materialize into anything great and to me does them a disservice.

Great article in tbe athletic about landon thome and his dad, jim. People should check it out if given the chance. Far as landon, i hope he sticks with college. You cant put a price on that experience.

So the draft started at 1 PM and there’s been 4 picks in the first hour? That’s insane. Nothing about the MLB draft should precipitate moving along at such a glacial pace. That’s slower than the NFL Draft, by far.

The Cardinals are rumored to be looking hard at Hugh school bats.

I’t made sense to me that the Pirates to have drafted for need. I hope they can luck into a power hitter later in this draft.

I don’t love the Condon pick. I don’t think he is going to hit for enough power to be a valuable big leaguer.

Fingers crossed the next pick for the Cards is an upside pick for a guy with pop like Thome or Spangler

Condon wasn’t a horrible pick to me but just not my favorite. At least it wasn’t a pitcher who likely would get hurt

Terrible pick by the catdinals. They prob could have gotten bim further down the draft. Hes prob 4 to 5 years away from helping the team. May be some strategy to this but either way im not big on it. But thats just me. So far bloom isnt wowing me

I look dowm the list and tbey could have gotfen logan hughes. A kid whose already proven he can big time pitching, got 3 college seasons under his belt, great power, great defense, ranks high in texas tech history. I dont get it. Hopefully there is some strategy. I can see rolling the dice on a later pick but not your first pick.

KCB, the links you share often have URLs where I can’t determine if actually goes to a secure website or takes you somewhere to steal your info.

watch in the class — always giving 110% effort with plenty of emotion that shows up on the field. He’s a fun player to watch play the game, one who brings energy to whatever field he steps onto. Beyond being a spazrk plug as a player, Condon is the type of person who can help build a culture, and that’s something pro teams are sure to value.

Sorry I was multi-tasking and fixed the comment in an edit. Just URL in general but you can’t see where it actually goes since it is a google share that could take you anywhere and you can’t validate the authenticity of the website.

Don’t know much about HS players this year…ESPN projected Condon at 14 and MLB had him at 13

Seems like there is some question on his power and moving to wood bats if he will hit for power

    MLB writeup —

Condon’s combination of pure hit tool and 70-grade speed made him one of the more interesting prep hitters in the class. The left-handed hitter had been committed to Tennessee, but he’s not making it to campus.

    ———-
Curiel would have been my pick if he was there but he wasn’t….then Gracia…who was also gone

From an Organization standpoint the Cardinals do not have a lot of OF prospects that can hit, so this makes sense position wise as well as he can play CF with his speed.
