jj-cf-stlParticipantBeing able to afford was washed out by his list, he narrowed the clubs down.
January 19, 2025 at 1:22 pm #275093Correct. He didn’t narrow the list based on ability to pay which is what I have been trying to say. There were other factors.
January 19, 2025 at 8:16 pm #275141I believe the Padres offered him more money than the Dodgers, which could play into an investigation
January 20, 2025 at 10:55 am #275156The Padres should investigate why their ownership group is crumbling. Who would want to join that mess?
January 20, 2025 at 1:49 pm #275170I hope Shildt doesn’t encounter “philosophical differences”…
January 20, 2025 at 5:27 pm #275181In addition to the trade with the Phillies for $750,000 to $1 million international cap money, the Dodgers made a second deal with the Phillies for $1 million more. Sasaki’s signing ceremony is supposed to be early this week.
Sources: The Dodgers traded OF Arnaldo Lantigua to the Cincinnati Reds and received over $1 million in international signing bonus pool money.

February 13, 2025 at 10:39 am #276388Eric Longenhagen has sources that tell him the Cardinals have a verbal agreement for the 2026 period with Emmanuel Luna an OFer from the Dominican for somewhere in the range of $2.5-4.0 million. This is definitely a departure from the Cards typical pattern of quantity over quality for IAFA. I wonder if this is one of Blooms’s changes already being enacted.

cardsfan64ParticipantI missed this one that I noticed on the transaction log.
03/07/25 – St. Louis Cardinals signed free agent LHP Hendrick Cana to a minor league contract.
PB/T: L/L – 6’0″/181 – Age: 17
Born: 12/20/2007 in San Antonio de Maturin, VenezuelaMay 5, 2025 at 12:34 pm #281189
cardsfan64ParticipantCuban right-handed pitcher Briam Reyes Cedeño is in an agreement with the St. Louis Cardinals, pending a physical, per sources.
Cedeño throws multiple pitches with a fastball at 89-92 mph. He left Cuba in March and was recently declared a free agent.

cardsfan64ParticipantAnother future signing for the Cards!
The St. Louis Cardinals are the favorites to sign Cuban OF Cristian Lias, considered one of the top hitters in the 2026-2027 international class, per sources.

May 9, 2025 at 6:59 am #281537I see these news bites as great! The Cardinals need to get more aggressive in the International Market if they are serious about acquiring and developing talent for the major league club. IMO, they have fallen behind others in this market and it is good to see them get mmore active and aggressive.
May 11, 2025 at 7:45 am #281719
cardsfan64ParticipantSaw this on the transaction page:
05/07/25 –
St. Louis Cardinals signed free agent RHP Kriscol Peralta to a minor league contract.
05/08/25 –

cardsfan64ParticipantCuban right-handed pitcher 🇨🇺 Ricardo Fernández (16) officially signed with the St. Louis Cardinals this Thursday.
Bonus deal: $110,000.
Great arm. Fastball in the 91–93 MPH range and the ability to further develop his slider. Represented by Pawell Baseball International. pic.twitter.com/XZZvnA0rhg

May 23, 2025 at 7:58 pm #283029Had a high school friend drafted in 76. Threw low to mid 90’s +. Injured arm in minors. Is 91-93 really good for a 16 year old, (great arm)?
May 28, 2025 at 12:24 pm #283424
cardsfan64ParticipantBrian, have you heard any follow up news about signing Cuban right-handed pitcher Reyes Cedeño or Cuban right-handed pitcher Ricardo Fernández? I know they have to have physicals before being announced by the team, but haven’t heard anything for a beat.
May 28, 2025 at 4:46 pm #283447I have not. But the DSL opener is just five days away, so the roster will need to be set by then. Without them, I have the roster at 35, but there could be and probably are injuries we don’t yet know about.
June 2, 2025 at 7:17 pm #283845New signing announced on Twitter by Francys Romero:
Cuban right-hander pitcher Briam Reyes Cedeño (17) has officially signed with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Bonus deal: $130,000.
An explosive pitcher with strike zone command/stuff that includes a slider, changeup, and fastball (90–92 MPH).

cardsfan64ParticipantNot official yet, but…
Per source, Cuban catcher and third baseman Héctor Cabrera (17) recently reached an agreement with the St. Louis Cardinals, pending physical.
Cabrera played for Spain 🇪🇸 in the 2023 U-18 World Cup.

June 2, 2025 at 8:55 pm #283850BA has a good overview of the Cards 25 IAFA class in prep for the DSL season start earlier today. They give high level details on each player. One name that apparently has been improving since the Cards signed him in January is Miguel Hernandez.

June 2, 2025 at 8:59 pm #283851I can only imagine how hard it is to scout many of these kids at the age they are and the conditions they live in. Some of these guys experience so much personal and physical growth once joining the academies. Many of them have never had proper nutrition and getting onto a team diet helps them fill out. I imagine scouts really struggle to project who not only be a good player, but will mentally be up for the test with all the unknowns of kids so young.
June 4, 2025 at 2:21 pm #284013
cardsfan64ParticipantPer transaction page:
06/04/25 – Domingo Mejia assigned to DSL Cardinals.
06/04/25 – St. Louis Cardinals signed free agent RHP Briam Reyes to a minor league contract.
06/04/25 – RHP Briam Reyes assigned to DSL Cardinals. We knew about Reyes from article above, but Mejia is a new name! I noticed on his MiLB page that Mejia is on the 60-day IL.
June 4, 2025 at 10:49 pm #284039It appears Mejia signed his contract on June 2.
